Not a coincidence that Gardner(Yankee player) wins LF, so there must
be a red sox player that wins to keep pace.

Cano is A, Pedroia is B. Here are just three defensive metrics that proves my point. They were tied in Leage Range Factor Per Game, but in every single UZR, DiPS Pedroia had the lead. Cano was better than average, but not better than Pedroia.
Not understanding these concepts is the reason why DerekfuckingJeter has won Gold Gloves.

I disagree with Ellsbury's inclusion on the list. I don't feel he was the best CF in the AL. He has the speed to become an elite defensive CF, I just don't agree he's there yet.Machado wrote:2011 MLB Glove Winners

How and the hell Gardner isn't topping everyone's LF list is beyond me. Plus maybe I need to look up some defensive metrics, but I've always considered Elvis Adrus among the best SS. Since he seems to get no love, maybe I've just overlooked something.
Also congrats to the GG voters for not giving Jeter another GG.

I will be the first to admit that Jeter did not deserve many of his Gold Glove Awards.
Instead of looking at stats, the people who are voting rely on their eyes and input from other players/fans/colleagues, etc.....
Absolute joke of a system that rewards players who are undeserving.
Is it a coincidence that 3 red sux players were awarded a GG and not
one Yankee player won??

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
Aside from LF, not one MFY player was rated above the winners on the list. Gold Gloves or Fielding Bible. Teix is an outstanding 1B, but defensively he's not better than Gonzalez. I'd already posted proof that Pedroia is better defensively than Cano ( who is a viable option for MVP ), and I don't understand how and the hell Gardner didn't win the LF Gold Glove by a large margin.Machado wrote:Just proves the system is flawed and in desperate need of repair.killeverything wrote:I disagree with Ellsbury's inclusion on the list. Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
Gordon was given the Gold Glove because of his 20 assists.
That's the bottom line.
The voters should have their privileges taken away and fast.
The Fielding Bible Awards posted earlier by
Kill gave Gardner a 99 rating.
The rating was not given to Gordon, it was given to Gardner.
The Gold Glove award voters probably confused to two last names.
That's how stupid those old farts are.

I knew SF was going to do something offensively, didn't think they'd move Sanchez though. The Royals have Lorenzo McCain to take Cabrera's place, and this seems like it will help out both teams.Machado wrote:SF Giants traded J. Sanchez to the Royals

Wade Boggs and Jim Rice are the guests on tonight’s episode of Studio 42 with Bob Costas. During the interview, Boggs is asked about Derek Jeter joining the 3,000-hit club, and he uses that to predict a unanimous Hall of Fame vote in Jeter’s future.
“That’s the way he does things,” Boggs said. “He’s the master of Hollywood scripting, he’s the master of it… Whenever anything revolves around doing something special, Derek’s always involved with it and I’ve got good company now… Within six, seven, eight, nine years down the road, he’s going to be sitting right here (in Cooperstown) walking around the veranda, easily. He may be the only guy to get 100 percent of the vote.”
The interview with Boggs and Rice airs at 9 p.m. ET on MLB Network.

It's possible. Everyone loves him, but other MLB players ( remember he was voted anonymously as the most over-rated player in baseball ). Still he's a BBWAA darling so he could get 100%. Mays, Ruth, Aaron didn't. Try to comprehend that.Machado wrote:Wade Boggs and Jim Rice are the guests on tonight’s episode of Studio 42 with Bob Costas. You can look it up. Ruth was in the first HOF class, along with Speaker, Cobb, etc. He wasn't 100%, but that could be because of who was up for election along with him. I look into it more later.Machado wrote:Let's speak the truth here.killeverything wrote:It's possible. Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
When you go back and look at all the greats that weren't unanimous first ballot HOF'ers it doesn't make sense. Ruth is probably the single most important player and was by far the greatest of his day and yet some a-hole writers didn't vote for him?
I'll buy that there were some bigots that wouldn't vote for guys like Aaron or Mays, but how do you explain Cy Young, Walter Johnson, Warren Spahn, Gehrig, DiMaggio, Mantle, or Williams not getting 100% of the vote?
I'd hate to see Jeter get 100% of the vote. And that's not because he plays for NY but because he's not a cream-of-the-crop type player. A HOF'er for sure, but not a guy who you'd mention along with the best of all-time players like the ones I already mentioned. I can't look back at a single season where Jeter was the best player in the game, let alone be the guy to finally get 100% of the vote.
If anyone was worthy of getting a unanimous vote recently it would have been Ripken. I don't know if there are any players currently who are on track to have a HOF'er career that look to be the type to be a unanimous first ballot selection. The steroid era tainted most of these guys. There are even questions about Pujols, certainly enough to keep him from getting 100% of the vote.

Madsons market value is not much different than Pap right now,
I am still very surprised that Pap left the Sox for $12.5 a year.
Its good money, but they were already paying him close to this.

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
Pabelbon has been very good as the Sox closer. They lost him over $1.5M a year. And these are the same Soc that paid Lackey and Crawford twice what they are worth. The issue they have always had is they lose out on guys who are capable of playing in this market over small money (like they did with Texiera) and then go overpay for some stiff to try to make up for it.johnk5150 wrote:If I'm a Sox fan I don't think losing him for THAT money bothers me much.bang wrote:Yup, Papel-gone!Machado wrote:Jonathan Papelbon has agreed to a four-year deal with the Phillies.

So I would expect them to go after a small market closer and pay them $35-40M over 4 years and then watch the guy flame out under the pressure at which point they'll eat half his contract to move him back to another small market team.
