To date the Yankees have avoided arbitration with 4 out of 6 players that are eligible:
The Yankees agreed to a one-year, non-guaranteed contract with left fielder Brett Gardner,$2.8-million contract,
Chamberlain will make $1.6 million next season, a mild raise from last year’s $1.4-million agreement.
Robertson will make $1.6 million. Last year, he was making barely more than the minimum.
Phil Hughes has avoided arbitration with a $3.2-million contract .
It’s a modest raise for Hughes, who made $2.7 million last year.

I think Gardner and Joba The Fat will be the priority, but I imagine they'll try to retain them all.

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
Rangers and Nationals are said to be the two most likely options for Fielder.
But Texas' concern about Fielder never was just about Darvish money, or even the extension they hope to work out with Josh Hamilton. The club is risk-averse to paying huge sums of money to too many players as they age through their mid-30s, particularly after contracts for Jayson Werth, Joe Mauer, Carl Crawford and others look like bad deals at the start, not even the finish. Texas already is paying Adrian Beltre at least through age 36 and might be doing the same with Hamilton, 31 in May, who is in line for a Ryan Braun-sized five-year, $100 million extension.
The Rangers want to minimize the risk of getting too old and expensive. Fielder always interested Texas, but at five or six guaranteed years. That idea, which seemed impossible in November, now may be in play. It also makes possible the ultimate trifecta for Texas: contracts for Darvish, Hamilton and Fielder.
...
Can Fielder do better than that? Not in terms of a baseball fit. But he can probably get more years from Washington. Why? The Nationals need him more than Texas and (you knew this was coming) because of local TV money. Washington is in the midst of "re-setting" its local TV package to get current market value, which could mean an additional $30 million or more. The Nationals' TV ratings are abysmal. But if you add Fielder to Stephen Strasburg and Bryce Harper, two of the biggest drawing cards in baseball, Washington becomes not just an instant contender but also a meaningful draw. A star like Fielder could help that market value.

And the Nationals extend Matt Morse for two years (reportedly worth about 10.5 million). I know fuck all about the guy, but it seems he had quite a good 2011 rather quietly.

They should send him to the Cubs. "Hey Theo, take this shit with you. John Henry can't buy you a ring in Chicago". I for one welcome his departure.Facedown wrote:Report:

My uncle loved Scutaro when he was with the Jays. Yunel Escobar's fine with me, though.

Red Sox trade Marco Scutaro to the Rockies for RHP Clayton Mortensen.

So lemme get this straight. Seattle traded away Micheal Pineda ( which Curt Schilling say's you never do ) only to replace his spot in the rotatio with Kevin Millwood? Unfuckingbelievable.

Was it only last year when the Mariners could have received Montero in exchange for Cliff Lee
Thus keeping Pineda and King Felix.
Things happen for a reason!!

Jorge Posada officially retired this morning!
Two members of the core 4 have now retired. I personally feel old at the moment.

Tigers sign Fielder to a 9 year 214 million dollar deal. I really think Dombrowski has lost his friggin mind. What are they going to do with Cabrera. I hope to god they don't try and move him back to third base where he is defensive liability and neither one wants to be full time DH.

Fucking hell. The Tigers?
The only team stupid enough to give him nine years, I guess. Well, apparently the Nationals were in on him until the end, and they've never been known to make ridiculous free agent signings.
Well, the Jays extended Morrow and are talking to the Rangers about Uehara.

The back end of this deal(4 years from now) is going to haunt the city of Detroit for 5 yrs.
Tigers "over payed" for this guy who to date has stated he does not want to be a full time DH.
I don't see a lot of chemistry inside the locker room with him and Miggy arguing over who plays 1st base/who DH's on a daily basis.

Nine years? I was surprised by the length, since reportably most of his suitors weren't willing to exceed 5 or 6.
Also Tim Lincecum has been locked up with a two year contract, buying out his arbitration years for 40.5m

I like the platoon idea, because they bring a higher WAR than Scutaro and Ive always valued defense at SS. Which they havent had since Agonz.Machado wrote:Hey Kill-

They could try for Hanley. I doubt it, though.

Nah, there's no way. It was rumored that was a target and I didn't buy it then. Hanley I tthought had issues that would make playing in Boston difficult. If they keep O Cab because of "issues", theyre not going to bring in Hanley.MurrayFiend wrote:They could try for Hanley. I doubt it, though.
Plus I think theyre looking for undervalued breakout players again. What made Theo a boy genius in the first place ( Mueller, Ortiz, Millar ), and staying away from the big name FAs. Kind of what made Theo apparently very overated ( Dice, Rentawreck, Lackey, Crawford ).
I for one would be pissed about bringing in Hanley. Im sick of Boston being the new MFY.

Uehara exercised his no-trade clause to reject Toronto (they were one of six teams he could block). But they signed Francisco Cordero today, and it already looked like a decent enough bullpen.

It seems Tony La Russa will be allowed to manage the N.L. squad in the 2012 All-Star Game, despite his retirement (obviously).
