Yes, that's been the story this spring. The thing is, their AAA club is in the PCL (Las Vegas), he had an ERA over 7 there last year, it's great for inflating hitters' stats and making pitchers look worse than they really are. I guess they haven't thought about sending him to New Hampshire instead. Just having more Ks than walks is an accomplishment for Kyle at this point, though. The key is not freaking out, getting angry and cursing on the mound when he allows baserunners, and he showed that today. Worlds of composure compared to 2011.

With question marks about Dustin McGowan's health and Brett Cecil's inconsistency, there's definitely a good chance we'll see Drabek in the major league rotation at some point even if he's not with the team right out of the gate.

I'm kinda worried about Francisco Cordero as the setup man based on what I've seen. Maybe he just hasn't hit his stride yet. He's a veteran, he knows what he's doing... Casey Janssen looks great basically every time I see him, though.

Speaking of Toronto pitchers, Brandon Morrow struck out 11 in 5.2 innings in a minor league game today. Filthy.

The Magic Johnson group bought the Dodgers for $2 BILLION - and still couldn't completely get rid of Frank McCourt :?

http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/mlb/stor ... n-group-2b
NEW YORK -- A group that includes former Los Angeles Lakers star Magic Johnson and longtime baseball executive Stan Kasten agreed Tuesday night to buy the Los Angeles Dodgers from Frank McCourt for a record $2 billion.

The price would shatter the mark for a North American sports franchise, topping the $1.1 billion Stephen Ross paid for the NFL's Miami Dolphins in 2009.

Mark Walter, chief executive officer of the financial services firm Guggenheim Partners, would become the controlling owner.

The deal, revealed about five hours after Major League Baseball owners approved three finalists for an intended auction, is one of several steps toward a sale of the team by the end of April. It is subject to approval in federal bankruptcy court.

As part of the agreement, the Dodgers said McCourt and "certain affiliates of the purchasers" would acquire the land surrounding Dodger Stadium, including its parking lots, for $150 million.

Yankees Starting Pitching could look like this come opening day.

C.C.
Kuroda
Nova, Hughes, Pineda

Freddy Garcia appears to be the odd man out. Unless he is traded, Garcia is destined to be the long reliever.

IMO, the team should not trade Garcia just yet. He is valuable insurance.
Pettitte is scheduled to be ready in about a month.
When he's ready, Freddy can be traded away because someone else in the rotation will need to be demoted.

Yeah no shit. Pure power. King Felix's change-up yesterday was unhittable too.
The M's have so many good pitchers in the farm, that I hope to see some get the call up this season. Pineda wasnt even ranked above them.

Although I gotta say I hated the inclusion of Campos in that deal. That guy was a beast in the PCL.

Kei Igawa no longer affiliated with Yankees. What a waste of money? If there was ever a pitcher who can be described as "AAAA", this guy was among them. Yankees took a huge risk and paid the price.

Kei Igawa had signed a two-year deal with the Orix Buffaloes in Japan.

"I wanted to play in America," Igawa said, according to Kyodo News agency.
The Yankees didn't want him back after paying a total (including the posting fee) of $46 million for a 2-4 and a 6.66 ERA in 16 major league games. No one else in the major did either.

In the Yankees' minors, Igawa went 36-25 with a 3.83 ERA. Igawa, now 32, finished 3-2 with a 3.86 ERA, starting 10 of 20 games between Double-A and Triple-A. He hadn't pitched in the majors since June 27, 2008.

Oh boo hoo. The MFY, a team that's frivolous spending has completely butt-fucked MLB's competitive balance, spent money that didn't pan out? Good. Don't worry though if they get knocked out of the playoffs again, they'll drop another half billion.

The deal is done.
So, the Red Sox send Theo and 1B Jair Bogaerts to Cubs for Aaron Kurcz and a pitcher who is to undergo elbow surgery (Carpenter) and is likely out for the season.
Nice job, Sox.

Good riddance. Its going to take a few years to get the Epstein stink off this team. The reason they have to go out and sign guys like Bobby Jenks ( which I was behind ), is because they have no young arms in the minors.

I don't understand why they haven't signed him yet. I think Damon still has a little gas left in the tank, and he can at least marginally play LF.

That was such a turd move. And if that pitch just got away from him why was he advancing and pounding his chest before the ball hit the ground?

that pitch was thrown to cause harm. plain and simple.
i would have more respect for the hurler if he admitted his actions. obviously he can't admit that because his fine/suspension would have increased.

I saw some of this game on MLB Network tonight. The Yankees(Yes) announcers commented that Drabek is a contender for the Jay 5th starter or will be sent down to AAA for more seasoning.
Looks like he's in the rotation after all... for now, at least. Brett Cecil was sent down to AA today, and Aaron Laffey won't make the rotation out of fear he'll be Jo-Jo Reyes all over again.

Romero, Morrow, Joel Carreno (only threw in relief last year), Alvarez, Drabek. At least until McGowan's ready. Fuck, I'm glad alcohol exists. This could be tough to watch.

*happy sigh*

It's here. :D I cannot begin to tell you how excited I am. Fuck sleep! I get to watch Marlins Baseball IN A REAL LIVE ACTUAL BALLPARK!!!

We went to the Yankees game Mon. night. Aside from the traffic HELL (fuck Miami traffic), a seating snafu (we got the wrong seats! But that is currently being rectified and we will have the correct seats/tickets by the end of the month, thankyouverymuch), and the score, it was a very enjoyable experience. Very comfortable, even with the roof and the windows opened. The concourse is open all the way around, so you can see the game from anywhere. I don't think there's a bad seat in the house. Still some minor bugs to be worked out, but that's to be expected. Everyone was enjoying themselves. Tonight's gonna be even better.

Make sure y'all tune in tonight! ESPN!

What's everyone's opinion of the Votto deal per the Reds? I'm a Red's fanatic, so I'm EXTREMELY happy that I don't have to worry about him walking after this yr./next....BUT, that's a LOAD of $$$ for a small-market team to shovel out.

I'm sure they are very well aware at the HUGE risk they are taking with this deal, but are hoping that it will pay off and show fans that they really are FINALLY becoming a team that is dedicated to at least trying to compete every year vs. the bottom dwellars they had been for so many seasons prior to 2010's playoff appearance.

I just really hope that they can lock up Brandon Phillips for a team-friendly contract (while giving Brandon a nice little payday himself, which he has earned and IMO deserves). But I do NOT want ANY deal (and think the chances of their being one are next to nil) that is beyond 5 years, and I would be FAR more comfortable at 3 (I would accept four), but 5 is my limit as he'll be entering his "declining" years sooner rather than later.

If they can not come to terms and lock him up for 3/4/5 yrs., then I hope that they can at least turn it into a lucrative trade, I know they are grooming a young stud named Billy Hamilton to be their 2nd baseman of the future.

Other than losing Madson, & I think they can get over that bump in the road, (though it DOES SUCK to have to pay out 8+million to a guy who is not going to throw one pitch/play one game for you - but, risks are just that; risks, and the Reds got burned on this one) the Reds are looking pretty damn competitive for the next few years.

I love Votto, he's been my favorite since he got to Cincy. I'm tickled to death that they locked him up for years to come. I think the Reds will be good, but I watched 3 spring training games, and I'll be damned if they didn't get SPANKED all three times. Aroldis Chapman is headed back to the bullpen. Reds bullpen is hurting with a shit ton of injuries. Hate that Madsen got hurt. We gave up alot of good young talent in the off season, so I hope some of these new veterans pan out.

If the economy bounces back, it may not be that bad a deal in a few years. I remember when the Bulls gave Pippen an unheard of 7 year $21 million back in 91/92 ish. I couldn't believe how much money that was. Then NBA contracts blew the fuck up a couple of years later and suddenly Pippen was 'underpaid'. Money changes so much in sports over time. The Votto deal may be considered a steal in five years depending on where contracts wind up going forward.

How do you like your bullpen to begin the season?
Aceves is closing while Bailey recovers from his injury.
Bard is a starter. Can't count on him to get 3 outs in the 8th anymore.
