I thought Ryan held up his swing on the 3-2 pitch, but he ain't getting THAT call.killeverything wrote:Phil Humber just threw a perfect game against Seattle.
Humber was dominant all day. Only 2 or 3 hard-hit balls. Good on him!

Yeah, I wish the last out was a little more definitive, but a great pitching performance by Humber. Good guy too.Lardbucket wrote:I thought Ryan held up his swing on the 3-2 pitch, but he ain't getting THAT call.killeverything wrote:Phil Humber just threw a perfect game against Seattle.

At that point in a perfect game, any pitcher is going to get that call. Especially after the almost no hitter a few years ago when the ump blew the final out at first base.
Good for Humber. Seems like a good kid and hopefully has a good future ahead of him.
Add this to the list of good things to happen to the Sox since Ozzie and family left.

The Red Sox are going to lose 100 games this year.
It's ok, because I really despise this roster. They needed to clean house after last season and they didn't. And management botched the whole Theo thing. Serves them right that they will suck this year. I hope they blow the whole thing up in July and start promoting the kids like Middlebrooks and Iglesias.

Theo needs almost 100% of blame. He raped the farm system for bandaids and left the team with no financial room. That's a 180m roster your seeing. On a brighter note maybe this will be the end of Lucchino.SkyDog112046 wrote:The Red Sox are going to lose 100 games this year.

They need Duquette back. On the other hand Im going to enjoy watching Theo butt-fuck the Cubs organization.

It looked like he went around to me. Oh well how funny that it was Pierzynski that threw him out? Red Sox trade P Michael Bowden and a ptbnl to Cubs OF Marlon Byrd and cash.
Byrd has started the season 3-43, all singles.
Good thing the Sox don't need pitching.

It's gonna be a long summer, but at least tickets will be cheap on stubhub.
I think everyone knew when Nolan took the helm he was going to turn that team around.
Nolan fucks the Angels again. Man, we're still paying for letting him go back in the early 80s. That Texas is so good right now AND their farm system is loaded, is indeed terrifying.

If Theo earns 100% of the blame, that leaves nothing for Bobby V.killeverything wrote:Theo needs almost 100% of blame. He raped the farm system for bandaids and left the team with no financial room. That man has ruined the team since the 1st day of ST. Some of the players have already proved their loyalty to each other and not the manager.
How about the look at Bobby's face when the Yankees stormed back from down 9-0?
Or the reception the Sox fans gave him when he walked off the mound?
Typical Bobby V and his huge ego, he had to have a reaction. What an idiot!!!

As a Cubs fan (ashamed to admit that), I have to thank Boston for taking Byrd. I don't think Bowden will live up to his potential, based on the last couple of years, but if he turns out to be a decent reliever, I will be happy.Facedown wrote:Red Sox trade P Michael Bowden and a ptbnl to Cubs OF Marlon Byrd and cash.

I wonder if the Red Sox would have considered trading for Soriano, if the Cubs offered to eat most of the contract?

Nowhere to put him, really. Crawford is supposed to be back soon and it was before the Ellsbury injury.
Sox have a few chips left to trade but they are all looked at as probable starters next year or quick call-ups if this season sinks any faster.

It's gonna take a few seasons to get the Epstein stink off the team. They completely got away from what made them great. Player development, avoiding massive contacts, basing the team on players built for Fenway ( OBP, BB ) and finding value in undervalued players. After 2007 they started spending like the Yankee trustafarians. trading the farm for temporary fixes.Facedown wrote:It was brought up but they would have to eat a shitload of that contract.wickedsensation wrote:I wonder if the Red Sox would have considered trading for Soriano, if the Cubs offered to eat most of the contract?

Now they can't sign big free agents and don't have any impact players on the farm. Way to go Theo. Bobby V like Little was Luchhino's choice. LL needs to go.

New York Yankees pitcher Michael Pineda will undergo surgery on Tuesday to repair a labrum tear in his right shoulder and is lost for the season.
Pineda came to training camp at 280 pounds, at least 10 pounds over his playing weight, and struggled all spring with his fastball velocity, which rarely got above 91 mph and often languished in the high 80s.
"He didn't have his velocity from Day One, and we didn't know why," Cashman said. "This must have been responsible. Clearly, he was fighting through something."
But Cashman was careful to absolve the Mariners of blame.
"In no way do I or the New York Yankees believe the Mariners knew about this injury," he said. "Michael was a fully healthy player when we got him."

While I love seeing things fail for NY; Jose Campos was who was ( mistakingly I might add ) included in the deal, is destroying AAA right now. I think he has the potential to be better than Pineda.Machado wrote:New York Yankees pitcher Michael Pineda will undergo surgery on Tuesday to repair a labrum tear in his right shoulder and is lost for the season.

So last night with the game on the line, Scioscia brings in Jason Isringhausen. First batter he faces walks on four pitches. Nobody else warming up in the pen. Scioscia sticks with Izzy for the entire inning and eventually he walks in what will be the winning run.
Top of the 9th. Angels have a runner on 1B and two outs, down by one run, Chris Iannetta due up. Mark Trumbo on the bench. Scioscia goes with Alberto Callaspo to pinch-hit for Iannetta. First fucking pitch, Callaspo pops out to end the game.
I am so fucking sick of Mike Scioscia.

I don't pay much attention to "prospects" that are in Low A ball. I can see that, but be thankful you don't have Eric Wedge. Who is so insistent on giving playing time to veterans, he keepg Miguel Olivio and his 1.03 AVG in the line-up. That's right, 1.03. That's below the fucking Mendoza line.tin00can wrote:So last night with the game on the line, Scioscia brings in Jason Isringhausen. First batter he faces walks on four pitches. Sidenote: Olivio leads the majors in passed balls. He was second last season, so it ain't his defensive prowess.
Miguel Olivio does not catch for Tim Wakefield.
I bet Boston would give you Valentine for him

Angels finally DFA Abreu and call up Trout. The bad news is that this will take ABs from Trumbo, who will sit on the bench in favor of Callaspo at 3B. The worse news is that Trout will now get more one-on-one time with Mickey Fucking Hatcher, the Captain Trips ("The Stand" reference there) of hitting coaches.

I've seen Trout play five times in the last two weeks for the Salt Lick Bees and I say he's the real deal. Good pop with the bat and crazy wheels around the bases. Ya'll are going to enjoy watching him.

Mea culpa: today Trout is batting leadoff, Trumbo at 3B, and Bourjos in CF. Sosh says "suck it, tin00can!"
I can't imagine any NL team picking up Abreu. His OF "defense" is brutal. Maybe some lower-tier AL team will pick him up to make a small splash, but I can't figure out which one.

And FINALLY the Brandon Inge saga is over in Detroit. He shoulda been released two years ago.
On another note, what the fuck happened to our offense. Detroit was supposed to be bashing our way to victory again and again instead we can't hit can't field and and can't pitch. Its 08 all over again.
