Holy Shit, Manny got ROBBED!

Post by nakedmadman »

Pulled from Yahoo:
LAS VEGAS – Timothy Bradley and Manny Pacquiao put on an outstanding show, but it was the judges who will be the big story for the next week or so.

Pacquiao landed 94 more punches than Bradley according to CompuBox, but it was not enough as the judges stunningly awarded a split-decision win to Bradley, who lifted the World Boxing Organization welterweight title from Pacquiao with the victory.

"I thought I won the fight," said Bradley, who said he hurt his ankle in the second round. "I didn't think he was as good as everybody says he is. I didn't feel a lot of his power." Timothy Bradley celebrates his controversial win over Manny Pacquiao. (Getty Images)

It was an excellent back-and-forth bout, but Pacquiao seemed to control it by landing more, landing at a higher percentage and landing the harder punches.

Judges C.J. Ross and Duane Ford had it for Bradley, 115-113. Jerry Roth had it for Pacquiao, 115-113. Bradley won the final round on all three cards which pulled out the bout for him.

Pacquiao was shocked by the verdict.

"I do my best and I guess my best wasn't good enough," Pacquiao said. "I've been watching the tapes of his fights. Tonight, he never hurt me. Most of his punches hit my arms. I don't know what happened [with the scoring]. I have no problem. I'll be ready for the rematch. No doubt [I won the fight.]"

It was a stunning end to a more than seven-year winning streak for Pacquiao, who entered the bout ranked No. 2 in the Yahoo! Sports world rankings.

"Can you believe that?" promoter Bob Arum said. "I had it 10-2! After I got into the ring after the fight, I went over to Bradley and said 'You did very well.' He said, 'I tried hard, but I couldn't beat the guy.' This is crazy. You talk about killing boxing? All three scorecards you throw out."

Dreams of a megafight against No. 1 Floyd Mayweather Jr. may have gone up in smoke with the pens of judges who saw a different fight than the fans in the building and most media at ringside.

Yahoo! Sports scored it 117-111 for Pacquiao, the same margin as Tim Dahlberg of the Associated Press and Steve Carp of the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Dan Rafael of ESPN had it 118-110 for Pacquiao. HBO's Harold Lederman had it 119-109, or 11 rounds to one, for Pacquiao.

"This is a death knell for boxing, and I'm going to make a ton of money on the rematch," Arum said.

Pacquiao landed 253 of 751 punches, a connect rate of 34 percent. Bradley landed 159 of 839, a connect rate of just 19 percent. On top of that, Pacquiao seemed to land the more powerful shots.

It was an action-paced battle fought at a furious pace for much of the event. Pacquiao showed little respect for Bradley's power and waded in with impunity, ripping straight left hands and hooks.

"He's a beast," Bradley said, while admitting Pacquiao hurt him several times with the left.

Bradley landed clean shots, but wasn't able to back Pacquiao up.

Pacquiao said he respected the decision, but felt he won the fight.

From the look on Bradley's face at the end of the bout, it appeared he felt the same way.
Is this some kind of way to drum up interest in a dieing sport, some means of generating enough media attention to be able to salvage boxing before MMA becomes THE comat sport in the world? Or is this just another example of what happens when you have too many hands in the pot, too many people making decisions, and too much money on the line and ultimately the sport suffers.

Well, at least everyone here in the Philippines has something to get angry about.

Nonetheless, it was a stupid decision.

Can not wait to see the televised replay on HBO
this Saturday night.
The 2 judges who scored that fight for Bradley are
74 + 71 years of age. Are they the most qualified to score
a championship fight???

Either those 2 judges were paid off or the boxing promoters have stooped to
WWE type "story lines" in order to get a few more MASSIVE paydays for
their boxers/sport in the next 18 months.

Most likely both....for about 40 years now.

It's like sad and on one hand you could expect a legend like Manny to finish a fight like this so he doesn't even have to deal with the judges scorecard.

After Marquez III and this fight...you know Pacman - Mayweather is still a dream match-up but not like it used to be.

Only a few weeks ago Bute lost so there's no Ward - Bute to dream of...

Povetkin has no chance against the Klitschkos and won't fight them anyway. There's nothing left in boxing :(

This is just another example of what's the matter with boxing. Too much money, too many "sanctioning bodies", too much greed. All the experts always want to tell us that MMA and Boxing can co-exist, but when you see shit like this, you really have to ask yourself, "do we want them to?"

I find it funny that by Sunday, there was ramapnt speculation that Arum may have had a hand in all this due to the fact that Manny's contract is up and there was a worry that Pacquio-Mayweather would happen with someone other than Arum promoting it. THEN, all the sudden, Arum wants to call for an investigation of the Nevada State Athletic Commition. This guy may as well change his name to Bobby "the Brain" Heennan.

I would NEVER pay to see this rematch. If the judges couldn't get it right the 1st time, why would I pay $60 to watch them get it wrong again?

the only way they'd be wroing a second time is if Bradly was actually winning. This shit is pure WWE. Manny will win a rematch and the will be a 3rd. I would be willing to bet that Arum is rubbing his hands togather with glee. Instead of ONE fight in the continual buildup/lobbying for Mayweather/Paquiao, now he's going to get three, and make about 200mil off them.

This is what I have been thinking too. A good trilogy to for Arum and Manny to make some money till Mayweather comes around.

saw the fight over the weekend via HBO.

i can't figure out how 2 judges gave the fight to Bradley, 115-113.
speechless. ridiculous. might be the worst judging in a boxing match
i have ever seen.
those 2 judges were not watching the same fight or those 2 judges
were determined to give Manny a loss.

Haven't seen the fight, have no interest in seeing it, but I heard that it was a terrible decision. Boxing is beyond a joke now, it's been dead since about 2003, when Lennox Lewis retired. I was once the biggest boxing fan in the world but I don't follow it at all anymore. It's astounding to me how what was once a major, major sport in North America has come to what it is now. Everything that the sport could possibly do wrong to kill itself, it has done to the extreme. It would take me pages to elaborate on that.

No robbery in the fight with
Marquez
The knockout punch was devastating.
So much force and 100% right on the mark.

Manny should retire and if the stars line up correctly,
Floyd should fight Marquez next.

The way I see it Pacman is a talent, he was better than Marquez 99% of this fight and fought the wrong fight. He would probably do the same thing against Mayweather and lose.

Marquez is a technician and tactician just like Mayweather, only Mayweather is way better at that game than Marquez.

Maybe boxing died this weekend. There is no dream match-up left. Pacman lost, Butcian lost....maybe Povetkin vs Klitschko but that isn't reallly that exciting.

Hoping HBO will air the fight this coming Saturday night.
Usually HBO will air a pay per view fight in the next week.

Still watching the replay of the KO punch.
Damn that was nice.
Nacho must be so proud of Marquez.

I was in the MGM casino that night the vibe was amazing all the mexicans with their flags screaming and chanting in the casino after the fight.

I was at Tabu waiting for Snooki to show up for her afterfight party

HBO did broadcast the fight last night.
Marquez delivered a direct hit on Manny's face. Could not have punched any better.

Was a very entertaining fight and difficult to say who was leading the fight before Round 6.

I think Manny should retire and Marquez should continue to fight anybody that wants a piece of him.
No need for them to fight for a fifth time
