Gotta love sports media trying to make a non-rivalry seem like something more, huh? All they had to run with was that ignorant handshake shit, and they beat that dead horse pretty incessantly.Crazy Levi wrote:OK, so now that 49ers-Lions has ended without coach handshake drama, can we drop this storyline?

Per Elias Sports Bureau, Andrew Luck is first rookie QB to engineer game-winning 4th qtr drive in Sept. since Archie Manning, 1971.

Re: NFL 2012 Thread
The refs got by with a decent week one showing. As a result, the NFL felt no pressure to cave in to the real refs. But after this weekend, the media is going to be all over the replacements and the NFL, exploiting every bad call and misjudgment. More and more players are making comments against them. Every ref is going to be scrutinized by the media for having any ties to a team which he is officiating, such as the referee who was pulled yesterday due to being an admitted Saints fan. The pressure is on the NFL now to bring back the real refs, so I suspect we'll have a settlement soon.

Re: NFL 2012 Thread
Joe Flacco went out of his way to "rip the refs" during his post-game press conference.
In the Dallas game, the refs made a horrible call against Dallas
1)The refs missed a "defenseless player" penalty against Seattle and on the very same play, the refs threw a very, very questionable "personal foul/late hit out of bounds" flag against Dallas.
As the weeks pass, I'm afraid the refs will continue to make bad calls and force the players/coaches to speak up about the lack of quality.

Okay not quite a blowout but I will admit the 49ers are great this year. I already hated the niners, now its reached a point where I want to see them lose and lose bad.

Everyone knows the regular refs make some bad calls, but these fucking guys are going to get someone hurt. Oh wait. They did that already.

less about player safety. His priority is making $$ for the league, the owners and anybody else that is "for profit".

I don't think Alex Smith could ever realize his potential before because he was changing offensive coordinators every season. With the complexity of NFL offenses that has to be brutal. Glad he's finally gotten some stability and he's surrounded by some serious weapons. He could be on his way to a Pro Bowl this year.johnk5150 wrote:What's surprised me the most is how poised the once easily rattled Alex Smith is looking this season. He is now the record holder for the niners for most passes thrown without a pick. Not bad considering a couple of guys that preceded him were okay at the position.crabfan wrote:As a Niners fan I'm pumped about being 2-0 and doing it against two strong teams (GB and Detroit). SF has is good in all 3 phases of the game. And Akers still kicks the living shit out of the football.

So Luck is "flawless" in game 2 but in game 1 he was a wreck. Three picks and a blowout loss. So week 2 erases week 1? How does that work, exactly?

I've only seen the 4th quarter so naturally I'm impressed.
Nobody can do what he does as far as audibles and control up there. When he comes to the line there's always 15 seconds on the clock, and he can literally tell every member of the team directly which play he's switching too. And on the road. Great.
Still, seems that first half was pretty ugly, from what I can tell.

Carriker ain't that hot but I shudder to think who plays behind him. Orakpo is a little overrated but he's a guy we need to have in there. Shanahan/Allen have been pretty good at talent evaluation so far (McNabb aside) so hopefully they'll come up with some youngsters who can step up.

Another horrible game for the scab refs.
I don't know how anybody could seriously compare them with the professionals. These guys are clowns. I guess it could be worse but that ain't a compliment.
This needs to change really soon before something seriously fucked up happens.
Refs by definition need to be of strong moral fiber. When you start out with scabs, you are - right off the bat - dealing with people of poor character. Throw in a complete lack of qualifications and experience and you have a dangerous situation that undermines the credibility of the game.

Re: NFL 2012 Thread
I'm convinced the real Peyton got stuck in Atlanta traffic and had his doppelgänger play the first quarter for him. Ended up being an entertaining game, but man, the officiating was horrendous. The NFL has got to fix this after tonight's debacle.Crazy Levi wrote:I've only seen the 4th quarter so naturally I'm impressed.

Re: NFL 2012 Thread
Peyton was a little rusty to start out. After the first game, people were expecting magic from the Broncos. Fact is, this is still a team trying to come together and learn a new system. Peyton also had not played in almost two years, and there is some inevitable rust that comes with that. I fully expected it to take 4-6 weeks for Peyton to get back to full speed, which is why last week's game surprised me. Today he came back to reality a bit, but still, other than the first quarter, he had a good game. It just took him a little longer than usual to figure out their defense. You have to credit Atlanta's defense also.

#2)The scab refs are terrified to blow a play dead, scared to throw the proper flag on a play and DO NOT know how to protect the players from harm
#3)The number of "vicious", "borderline illegal" hits that happened in week 2 far outnumbered how often these plays occured in week 1
#4)Did you read the NFL's statements regarding how the scab refs performed after week 2
“Officiating is never perfect,” the statement said. “The current officials have made great strides and are performing admirably under unprecedented scrutiny and great pressure. As we do every season, we will work to improve officiating and are confident that the game officials will show continued improvement.”
