Honestly - I thought Punk had on the hoodie to cover up the new belt. That, or Heyman was going to destroy the spinner belt.silent_eyes wrote:Still wondering if they're ever gonna switch the spinner title to something else. There's been talk of it for a long, long time now and it's desperately needed.
Whether you're a fan or not, Punk's reign has been the most exciting since...well...since I can even remember. When the feud with Bryan ended, they took the streak into a whole other direction with the heel turn, keeping the remainder of his reign fresh. Suddenly, people who thought Punk couldn't hold the belt a year are rethinking the idea that maybe Punk vs. Rock will happen at Royal Rumble.
Personally, last night would have been the night to bring out a new belt. I do think Punk will be the one to introduce a new belt. Another option is for Punk to beat Cena cleanly at Hell in a Cell, cementing the fact that Punk as champion is here for a while longer, and that the belt should reflect that. For Punk to change the title and immediately drop it to Cena would open up the chance for the spinner belt to return.
Something else that would make the road to WrestleMania "different" would be for the Rock to win the belt from Punk at Royal Rumble and disappear to film movies, allowing the WWE to "vacate" the title since it is not being defended. At that point, Punk could claim to be the last "real" champion and introduce the Straight Edge World Championship. A tournament would be held to crown a new WWE champion (such as John Cena). After the tournament (and similar to Punk/Cena in the Summer of 2011), Rock would return with the Brahma Bull World Championship (FINALLY) and claim to be the official champion. Now, you have John Cena, Rock, and CM Punk with valid claims to be the champion (and three different belts). At WrestleMania, a triple threat match would take place to unify the belts and create a brand new WWE Championship that does not reflect one champion over another. Personally, I'd like to see Punk get the win and be the one to put over someone like Dolph Ziggler, Cody Rhodes, or Wade Barrett. At the same time, you could then set up Rock/Cena II for Summerslam 2013 in Los Angeles.
