Yeah the last thing SF needs is to get comfortable after getting to Verlander. They still have an awesome rotation coming at em'. Fister hasn't been Verlander-esque, but he's been better than Bumgarner or any other post season #2 really. Let's see if the BP adjustments straightened Bumgarner out. Should be a helluva game.crabfan wrote:bane wrote:Tonight really changes the character of the series. I didn't see this coming at all.crabfan wrote:Zito pitching a gem so far and knocks one in! 5-0!
I'm happy but Detroit is dangerous. It will be interesting to see how they bounce back in game 2. I don't think the long layoff helped the Tigers, but I'm not complaining!

Re: Let's go SF Giants!
I agree, but I, and I think most people, had Verlander down for two wins. I didn't think there was a chance at all of the Giants getting to him. Last night just made the series a whole lot more interesting IMO.killeverything wrote:Yeah the last thing SF needs is to get comfortable after getting to Verlander. There are always two sides of the "extended rest" story.
Benefiting the team with the extra rest and against the team with the extra rest.
Tiger fans better home all the team needed was 1 game under their belt to get back into the flow
or they will be looking at a 2-0 deficit

It's probably some of both, but mainly, Verlander was off his game and Zito was on his.Machado wrote:LAPoet wrote:the Panda made Verlander look like ZoolanderRedman77 wrote:

Verlander has a hard time holding baseballs these days, he's used to holding Kate Upton's huge tits with his hands.

It's probably the most rhetorical question in baseball. I personally feel extended layoffs do more harm than good, but I don't see how you could mathematically prove it.Machado wrote:LAPoet wrote:the Panda made Verlander look like ZoolanderRedman77 wrote:

Also concerning Verlander, Kung fu Panda knocked a triple off him in the All Star game. Melky hit a HR and Matt Cain was the winner. I think tonite's game is the most important of the series. I don't trust Bumgarner against that line up though.

2-0 baby! I'm not gonna get cocky though after seeing what happened with the Reds and Cards.

Heard some stat the other day that 6 of the last 7 teams to have a longer layoff had lost.killeverything wrote:

Re: Let's go SF Giants!
This is what I love about baseball.
A team can have a murderer's row of a lineup, but often you need to be good in every facet of the game to be a champion.
Giants have made huge defensive plays this series; not the Tigers.
Giants have run the basepaths well; not the Tigers.
Giants have got clutch hitting; not the Tigers.
Giants have got great pitching, from the entire staff, one through twelve; not the Tigers.
Beyond that, I think Bochy has outmanaged Leyland. Not sure what Leyland was thinking, in a tight WS game, giving up the run for the double play in the 7th. It doesn't matter if you lose 1-0 or 5-0. His team wasn't hitting, the SF bullpen has been strong. Regular season fine; yesterday's curcumstances you go for the force at the plate IMO.
Oh, and Lamont sending Prince Fielder home, with nobody out, STUPID.

Re: Let's go SF Giants!
Fister is a bad ass. Taking a line drive off the head like that, shrugging it off and pitching 5 more shut out innings? That dude is a gamer.
Re: Let's go SF Giants!
Giants are loose and having fun, the Tigers are pressing. This will not end well.
On another note, I was impressed with the interview with Romo last night. He seems like he'd be a fun guy to party with.

Yeah the Tigers looked like they were going to a funeral on Wednesday while the Giants were getting loose and generally having a blast on their side. I can't believe how much of a non factor both Prince and Cabrera have been so far. I can see us getting swept.Redman77 wrote:Giants are loose and having fun, the Tigers are pressing. Re: Let's go SF Giants!
I've been surprised so far. I kinda think Detroit takes game 3. Home field, having an off day to stew on the losses ( which could be both positive and negative really ), and their not facing a left hander. LHP has fucked that lineup up this season ( something like a team .226BAA, barely above the Mendoza Line* ).madmaxfan wrote:Yeah the Tigers looked like they were going to a funeral on Wednesday while the Giants were getting loose and generally having a blast on their side. So I really believe this will be when they start to hit. I also agree with Bill Lee that if the series goes back to SF ( it is ), the Giants win the whole thing.
*Exact number was pulled from memory. Baseball Reference doesn't have the situational splits up yet.

Note to all MLB teams next year: Make sure your closer has a freaking beard! Wilson and Romo...two times in three seasons. That's gotta be part of the magic formula. lol

Giants are living proof that baseball is a team game. They got contributions, throughout the playoffs and season, from everyone in that lineup and bullpen. Everyone played a role; nobody bitched because they like winning.
Tim Lincecum, a former Cy Young winner, coming out of the bullpen time and time again was awesome to watch, as well as the closer by committee, and bevy of players who can barely hit their weight, but play D like nobody's business (Belt, Crawford, Blanco).
Bochy did a hell of a job as well.
Congrats SF Giants; 2012 World Series Champions.
