Your favorite sports memories?

Post by dtmfs »

Mine is still Evander Holyfield picking apart Tyon in their first fight, I can watch those last 2 rounds over and over and the sight of Tyson stumbling like a drunk after that Holyfield shot in the 10th never gets old. The Douglas loss was a fluke, This fight proved Mike Tyson could beat the shit out of Tomato cans and past their prime champs but when He fought the best of his era He was throttled.

The Phillies winning it all in 08', bout' fucking time.

Celtics winning it all the same year.

Tony Stewart capping off a great championship run last year with an insane performance in the last race.

Oh I enjoyed that one too, but Hloyfield wasmy favorite fighter so it was a little sweeter, and Yes the guy uses his head like a 3rd fist but Tyson was as dirty as they come as well so it evened it out. Now Rahman I felt sorry for.

The Brandon Roy comeback game. For a moment, he turned the tide on the fact his body betrayed him and cut his career short. And for one last time he closed out a game in crunch time. If he would have stayed retired, everyone would still that image in their head as the first thing you think of during his short career. Now? Its a man in a Timberwolves uniform going under the knife yet again to try and salvage something that was taken away from him in a cruel gesture of fate.

1992 - Alabama throttles Miami in the Sugar Bowl to capture the National Championship, only made more enjoyable because of all the trash talking that the Miami players did before the game.

2007 - Sitting in the rain in the upper decks in Miami and watching the Colts humiliate the Bears for the Super Bowl. The rain sucked, the game sucked, but at least I can say that I was there.

2009 - A perfect storm, Alabama wins the National Championship, the Saints win the Superbowl.

2011 - Bama wins it all again.

Yeah, so? Seeing a guy's career ended with broken bones sticking out of his leg is one of your fondest sports memories? I don't care if he's your team's rival or not. You need your head examined. Aikman, Smith, Irvin, Staubach, Dorsett, Too Tall Jones and Tom Landry all think you're fucked in the head.

Machado is the kind of person that cheers Michael Irvin's broken neck or talking trash to Andy Reid about his son's drug issues. I've always wondered who these people were.

nah. all of you have it all wrong.
somewhere in my reply there was a mis-communication.

i was listing my favorite sports memories, but also a vivid sports moment.
with the Theisman injury being a very vivid sports moment for me.
the footage of that play was shown consistently for decades.
the game was on MNF. i was watching and millions of others were.

just like that Pete Rose collision with Fosse was a vivid sports moment.
so let's everybody take it easy, take a step back, etc....

p.s. i did not cheer when Irvin's career ended on the turf in Philly and i did not get any satisfaction over someone passing away.

That's no excuse for being HAPPY about a career ending injury.

Of course, growing up in Chicago, it was about watching Michael Jordan lead the bulls to six titles. I watched most Bulls games and saw them win all six titles.

Watching the Colts get one play away from the Super Bowl in 95 was pretty special. They were a wild card team and not expected to make much noise in the playoffs. Well captain comeback Jim Harbaugh led us to the AFCCG, which was one of the most exciting games I can remember watching as a kid. The final play was a hail mary from Harbaugh to Aaron Bailey, which on first glance looked complete, but the ball actually rolled off Bailey's body and onto the ground. It was a crushing defeat.

My favorite hockey player ever. He's the reason I'm an Isles fan. watching him skate around helmetless while beating people up and hitting them, was like crack for my young eyes.

Tyson knocking out Ruddick in seven, admitting Ruddick hit harder than anyone he'd ever fought, then beating the holy HELL out of Ruddick in the rematch less than a year later. For three years he was the fiercest fighter that ever lived. Heard an interview with him yesterday where he basically said even if he had the physical ability he could never get back psychologically to that place ever again to do what he did.

My favorite would have to be the Alabama-Tennessee football game in 2002. That was my freshman year at Bama and I was in the Million Dollar Band. It was also my first college band trip if I'm not mistaken. I got talked into riding Bus 6, a.k.a. the "S.K.A.N.K. Bus" (Sigma Kappa Alpha Nu Kappa). We did bus surfing (nearly flipping the bus a time or two) and sang perverted version of the school fight song. I was at the front of the bus due to the fact that I was a freshie, but I could see people making out and God knows what else towards the back. That bus driver certainly had his hands full!

Before marching into the stadium for the big game, the director and section leaders warned us that things could get crazy. They had all of us chicks line up in the middle and put the guys on the outside. They told us not to let anyone break through and to use ANY means necessary to keep it from happening. Sure enough, some redneck Vols fan broke through the line and tried to squeeze through to the other side (while we were in motion, I might add). I told him to turn around and when he refused, I hit him in the gut with my sax!

The Tide went on to beat the Vols 34-14, our first victory against them in 8 years if memory serves me. After the game, the fans stormed the field. I remember the cops blocking off certain areas so people wouldn't tear down the goal posts etc. The band went back to the motel (in Gatlinburg) afterwards, but there was no sleeping. I have never seen that kind of partying before in my life! There's no telling how much underage drinking there was, come to think of it. Probably a not a good thing, but it was what it was. I remember seeing at least a few people run around naked along the way. One of my fellow saxophonists thought it would be funny to whip his cock out and chase all of us chicks with it. I never did even attempt to sleep until the bus ride back to T-town. Nobody made a peep on the trip back, as we were all worn out from partying all night. Good times! :D
