I hear ya, but you never know, some thought Mark Prior had perfect mechanics, and we know his story...
Actually I've never heard Prior had perfect mechanics. I blamed he and Woods implosion on Dusty Baker ( I think everyone did ), but I talked to a guy who was a former scout and he stated we all saw that coming, because their mechanics ( mainly elbow ) were horrible.

The reports of the Felix deal were premature. No deal was signed or numbers exchanged. This is the third time a report of this lock up was leaked. This coupled with King's withdrawl from the WBC, to me; screams a deal is imminent.

The Indians sign the Japanese Joke Matsuzaka to a minor league deal.

Seattle sign Jon Garland to a minor league deal. I bet this one works out before DiceK.

FOX Sports Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi

The words “pending a physical” give pause to any baseball player on the verge of signing a contract.
The latest, reportedly, is Mariners ace right-hander Felix Hernandez.
Hernandez last week agreed to a seven-year, $175 million contract with the M’s, according to major-league sources.

However, the deal is not yet official, and ESPN.com reported Sunday that an issue with Hernandez’s elbow is a concern for the club.
Hernandez has two years remaining on his current deal, so neither side is necessarily in a rush to resolve the matter.
“There are many issues to be worked out,” one source in Hernandez’s camp said. “We are not in a hurry.”

The reported elbow issue apparently surfaced during a physical that Hernandez took as a condition of the new deal. Hernandez did undergo a physical Thursday, a major-league source confirmed.
Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik, without commenting on Hernandez’s elbow, said in an email Sunday that the pitcher was on his way to the team’s training facility in Peoria, Ariz.
“He will be here tonight and take part Tuesday with the entire squad as usual,” Zduriencik said, referring to the Mariners’ first workout for pitchers and catchers.

Will the problem be enough for the Mariners to scrap the contract? Or will it simply result in protective language that teams frequently include in contracts for players with pre-existing medical conditions?

At the moment, it’s not clear.

Hernandez bowed out of pitching for his native Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic, but will participate in spring training; Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik told the Seattle Times said Hernandez would take the field with the rest of the team’s pitchers and catchers this week.
If Hernandez is indeed healthy enough to participate in full workouts, then it’s possible the Mariners simply are seeking to negotiate language that would allow them to alter the contract if Hernandez suffered a specific injury to his elbow.

The Boston Red Sox negotiated such language into right-hander John Lackey’s five-year, $82.5 million free-agent deal in Dec. 2009. The agreement included a conditional club option for 2015 if Lackey missed significant time for a pre-existing elbow injury. Lackey underwent Tommy John surgery in Nov. 2011 and missed the entire 2012 season.

The New York Yankees negotiated similar language for a vesting option in left-hander CC Sabathia’s most recent deal. The $25 million option for 2017 becomes guaranteed if Sabathia does not end ‘16 on the disabled list with a left shoulder injury, does not spend more than 45 days in ‘16 on the DL with a left shoulder injury or does not make more than six relief appearances in ‘16 because of a left shoulder injury.

Red Sox first baseman Mike Napoli and Pittsburgh Pirates left-hander Francisco Liriano also had protective language inserted into their free-agent contracts this off-season, and the Chicago Cubs, according to sources, backed out of a trade for right-hander Dan Haren due to physical concerns.

Hernandez has thrown 1,620 1/3 innings in his career, the fourth-highest total since 1969 for a pitcher before his 27th birthday, behind Bert Blyleven, Fernando Valenzuela and Dwight Gooden, according to STATS LLC.

I read on mlb.com King's agent said the deal is 70% done. They're just finalizing numbers. Z has stated numerous times his intent to lock up Hernandez and King has made it abundantely clear his intent to stay with Seattle. Especially with the prospects coming up soon.

A rotation with Felix, Walker and Paxton could be devastating. If Z finally realizes that Eric Wedge is a neanderthal with no idea how to manage a team ( see: Jaso, John who is now with the A's ) and fires him Seattle could be pretty badass. Felix has said a few times now he knows the team's future is bright and he want's to stay. I would be surprised if this new deal isn't completed soon.

ESPN via Buster Onley has reported the Mariners and Hernandez deal "is not close" due to the elbow concerns.

One of the reasons Steve Stone was canned in 2004 was his criticism of the Baker. And he said Wood and Prior weren't going to work from the beginning because of their mechanics. That guy has forgotten more about baseball than any of us will ever know.

Cleveland signs Micheal Bourne to a 4/48 deal. Didn't see that coming.

Now there's reports coming out that a deal with King should be completed in the next couple of days. Geez

Also I've been talking about Zuedernick and his building of the farm in Seattle for a while now. While I've never understood the Fister trade, Jaso's misuse or listening to Eric Wedge......who makes Bobby Valentine look like a fucking honor student. I think Z has some moments of sheer brilliance in building a team, possibly even Beane-esque.

I've been yapping about Seattle being close to being a force to be reckoned with soon. It might be quicker than we thought. Bill James is onboard too:

Goddamn it, Machado! :x I was hoping nobody would see that!

Yeah, I didn't go to the "Winter Warm Up" (formerly FanFest) ( ). Bought my Opening Day tix online, the ONLY game I will go to. Never missed an OD since I moved here, and my husband has never missed one. Tradition.

This is gonna suck.

Since you are in that area, how poorly attended will the games be in 2013?

Pretty sure it'll be a ghost town. People are PISSED. I feel badly for the players.

FanFest last year was wall to wall people. I heard this year's shindig was sparsely attended, as those photos show. Ownership doesn't give a fuck.

Sounds like a very, very long season in Miami this year.
Even with Stanton on the team, nobody is going to give 2 shits about
this team and the empty stadium.

Unless the team wins a lot of games, appears this team will have no competition for the lowest attendance in the league.
Well deserved of course.
I hope the local media is criticizing the owners and the team on a daily basis

That guy is so fucking good I don't forsee a huge drop off to his age 33 season. It's not like he's built like Lincecum, Pedro or Dontrelle. I'm looking forward to the terms put in for protection. Not unlike what the MFY did with Sabbathia or Boston with Lackey.

It's hard to believe he won't still be at least a #2 by then. That's even speculating he doesn't get some of Clemens' pitching help. The most desired trade piece since he was crowned in Tacoma, he could've gotten that hitting FA. Certainly if it was true how bad Epstein ( especially ), Cashman, Luchhino/whoever he controls wanted him. And that was just in trade. Not as a free agent.

He's baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!

Today Mo told reporters he has made a decision about his future plans but
won't reveal them just yet.
Mo promised reports that he will make his decision public before
the reg. season begins.

IMO, sounds like Mo is going to announce his retirement. Final season will most likely be 2013.

Hard to imagine Mo not pitching the 9th for the Yankees after 2013

It makes me chuckle to think of every fan in opposing stadiums on their feet to see him off. I mean I can't see him not getting ovations from everyone. Pretty cool.

Thanx Wolf! Unfortunately, it says that since emails went out to all of last years teams, I can not join unless the commish either drops a team or increases the number of teams. I would love to join if Jake can make it happen. If not, I am sure its just because of the global fear of Cruds Crappers. - yer bud, Crud (I've always wondered if I would get the boot if my new name was discovered)
