MLB.TV is free all weekend long.

KC guaranteed WC spot sitting 1 game behind Detroit.

King Felix charged an error in his last start against Toronto. Lowering his ERA to 2.18, one click behind Chris Sale's 2.17. Sale is done for season, with Felix scheduled for 1 more start & final statement for Cy Young. Kluber ( also a canidate ) struck out 11 his last.

Hunter Pence to rest for postseason push. Ending his streak of 331 consecutive starts. Pence hit today in the 8th inning continuing his ( mlb leading ) 381 consecutive appearances streak.

Matt Cain underwent arthroscopic surgery on his ankle, recovery time 2 months. Also reported that his ankle surgery won't interfere with his elbow recovery....

Brian Cashman has been speaking to Arod about how he wants to return. The puzzle's almost complete. Still the biggest douchebag organization in sports.

Speaking of which. Girardi reportedly bashed players in a pregame meeting:

According to clubhouse sources who were present for the critique, and backed up by interviews with more than a half-dozen players, most of whom spoke to ESPNNewYork.com off the record for fear of angering their manager, Girardi chided some players for being overweight and others for not being "hungry" enough.

One source described Girardi as "angry," and said he even took a brief timeout to allow the players, led by CC Sabathia, to present Jeter with the original painting of The New Yorker's Sept. 8 cover depicting the shortstop waving goodbye, and an expensive watch, before returning to Part Two of his tirade.

Good for Girardi. I do not have a problem with a team meeting or the timing of the team meeting.

I have to think Jeter did not have a problem with the timing of the meeting or
the nature of the meeting.
Only reason this is a story is because some of the members of the team spoke to the media.

FOXSports - No postseason for Derek Jeter New York Yankees!

NYdailynews - Derek Jeter goes hitless as Yankees are eliminated from playoffs!

NYPOST - Yankees officially eliminated from playoffs with loss to Orioles!

USATODAY - Jeter, Yankees eliminated from playoff contention!

WashingtonTimes - Derek Jeter, Yankees eliminated from playoff contention!

Yankees manager Joe Girardi, who watched his team battle injuries and slumps all year, says it certainly wasn't Jeter's fault that the team is staying home. Jeter remained in the No. 2 spot in the batting order despite batting .207 in August, and endured an 0-for-28 skid in September, the second-longest slump of his career.

Suck on it. You're out of the playoffs. Enjoy it, savor it, love it.

Do you really think not being in the playoffs stings?Help the Yankees have 27 WS titles to date.
Those huge numbers take away from any pain you think Yankee fans are enduring at the moment.

The Cardinals still have the upper hand even with today's loss -- needing a win against the D-backs on Sunday or a Pirates loss to claim a second straight division title. Worst case scenario would be a tiebreaker game in St. Louis on Monday to determine which club bypasses the Wild Card Game for an NL Division Series meeting with the Dodgers.

Oh the drama.

Yeah, I do. If it didn't we wouldn't have had to endure a season long retirement tour for Capt. Ove2ated. That team spent half billion this offseason and missed the playoffs again.

I'm sure it hurts the organization and their fans. You know the people from NY or who have at least been to Yankee Stadium.

Run Forrest!

Oakland won the wildcard with a 4-0 win over Texas. Seattle ( currently up 4-0 in the 6th against LAAAAA ) misses by one game.

King Felix exits with a 2.14ERA, lowest in the AL. The Cy Young battle is between the King and Kluber.

Considering the turnaround for the Mariners this season, I also think Lloyd McClendon wins AL Mgr. Of The Year.

Oak @ KC Tuesday is going to be a helluva matchup. Jon Lester ( who has an impressive as hell resume' in big games ) is pitching against James "Big Game James" Shields. I'm too lazy to look it up right now, but I believe their records against eachother is even.

Imagine the fallout for Billy Beane if Oakland gets eliminated from the playoffs after trading Cespedes for Lester. Beane has always looked brilliant in his trades with Huston Street being the exception.

SF is 4-9 against Pittsburgh this season with the Pirates losing their last two. Their Wednesday matchup is Bumgarner @ Volquez. If the Giants pass the Pirates I think Jake Peavy becomes their playoff ace. His trade to Bochy and Righetti has worked wonders on him.

No. What bothers me is that this joke is still being made. It's slightly more timely than a Y2K joke.

What bothers me even more is that they'll never be the Calfornia Angels again. Sigh.

Minnesota Twins fire Ron Gardenhire after missing playoffs for 4th straight year.

I'm perplexed by this one. Gardenhire had the Twins competitive for a long time. The owners ( owners of Target ) won't spend any money on the team because "they don't have it." How is that Gardenhire's fault? I always thought Gardenhire did an exceptional job.

HUGE props to Altuve from the Astros. He talked his way into the line up on Sunday despite his manager who wanted him to sit down for fear of losing the batting title.
Altuve went 2-4 in the game and earned the batting title on the field.
Good for him.
Shades of Ted Williams right there.

it aint his fault.

and he did.

but no manager lasts more than 15 years, unless he's makin the playoffs.

they just figure it was time for a change.

reminds me of Della Street

the Samardja trade also will be an exception. Because of Hammel sucking. They gave up way too much to the Cubs thinking they got 2 good starters when they only got one (Samardja), and even he somehow doesnt win games.

Revisit the Cubs -Orioles trade last year

nobody talks about it, but that is one of the biggest ripoffs in history. Amazing how teams continue to let Epstein fuck them over. Sorta like how teams would continue to trade with the Lakers over the years before they finally smartened up.

anyway:

Scott Feldman for Pedro Strop and Jake Arrieta

Arrieta is an ace (who if traded, will go back to sucking for another team)
Strop has become a top setup man

Feldman was a rental who was great with the Cubs, then sucked with the Orioles. Then walked as a free agent.

this was on top of the Rizzo for Cashman trade. Still blows my mind how the Padres could give Rizzo away after one bad season.

Corey Kluber named NL pitcher of the month for September.
Adam Wainwright named the same for the NL.

King Felix and Kershaw winning the Cy is the general concensus, but don't be surprised if either don't. Hernandez and Kershaw put up historic seasons*, but Wainwright and Kluber put up phenomenal seasons too.

*Kershaw ended 0.02 higher than Pedro in 2000. Dayum.

What a game in KC, the A's just broke the tie in the 12th.

KC 7 vs A's 8

So far......Man that would destroy an already great comeback by KC.

Holy shit, what a game in KC! I had Oakland winning it too, what an epic collapse for the season. Cespedes is in Boston, Lester will be a Yankee, knocked out in WC game you made it to by 1 win.....wow.

Check out this tweet by the KC Police dept. Probably the coolest thing I've read all year.

Kansas City Police ✔ @kcpolice

We really need everyone to not commit crimes and drive safely right now. We'd like to hear the @Royals clinch this.

The only reason they're there is because of Beane. He's not why they lost 20 of 30. That's like blaming Steve Bartman for Miami scoring 8 runs.
