Look at the damage he did when he thought he was holding onto the team. Imagine what he'll do knowing he's in his "last term"?NeverSurrender wrote:Wang is still majority owner for 2 years, so Garth can see the "rebuild" through... it's never easy being an Isles fan...
John Tavares for Tomas Plekanec and a 1st round pick anyone?

Expansion team to Vegas is a done deal according to this article:
http://www.theprovince.com/sports/Galla ... ederated=1
Jerry Bruckheimer will probably be the owner.

I'll get flak (from pieceofme) for saying this, but somehow, some way, this is what will happen the next 5 years:chungasrevenge wrote:Expansion team to Vegas is a done deal according to this article:

Jerry Bruckheimer will probably be the owner.
- Expansion teams awarded to Las Vegas and Seattle, in order to have two 16 team conferences, and four 8 team divisions
- Panthers move to Quebec City, to put them in a place where more revenue can be generated, and where so many empty seats will not be evident on TV
Last remaining question mark is Arizona, who can wind up in Kansas City, if need be. So, Pacific division loses Arizona ,but gains Vegas and Seattle, while Central division gains KC, and Florida stays in the Atlantic and simply moves north.
Flame away, but this, and the sale of the Isles, would settle all of the league's more pressing issues.

And lol at thinking Kansas and Las Vegas will do better business than Florida or Arizona.

Re: The official NHL thread
Vegas can do well. At one point it was one of the fastest growing cities in the US, from a population standpoint, and between the locals, the tourists, and the sports betting crowd, it will succeed. One of the 4 major sports just needs to make the jump into the water first.
I agree KC is a stop gap. A team will do well for 2-3 years and then lag as Atlanta did. There is talk of a second Toronto area team, which I think is a bad idea, but the idea has some legs.
Re your comment: "better business than Arizona and Florida"? What kind of business are they doing? They shouldn't be hard to beat. The Coyotes have cost several owners, the league, and the city of Glendale millions, and while I have no knowledge of the Panthers' financial situation, we've discussed the empty seats ad nausea-um here, and they're embarrassing. Quebec or bust for the Panthers (or Coyotes).

New rumor from Sports Business News (?) says Vegas, Seattle, Quebec City and a second team in the Toronto area for expansion by 2017 with $1.4 billion in total fees.

As long as it is expansion and not relocation then I'm ok.chungasrevenge wrote:

Although I think 4 teams is a little excessiove

Re: The official NHL thread
Dan Patrick said Vegas is already signed for 2016 from his sources on the financial side and obviously NBC and they've already broke ground on the arena. Two candidates for relocation are Phoenix (if they lose $25 million this year) or the Carolina Hurricanes. It sounds like their owner wants out. He also repeated 4 teams altogether and Seattle. Quebec City would be the obvious replacement for Carolina in the east.pieceofme wrote:As long as it is expansion and not relocation then I'm ok.chungasrevenge wrote:

Like Subban, overpayment, but teams need to do these things before their players hit the open market.Facedown wrote:Bruins extend Krejci 6yrs/43.5mil.
So what's up next for the B's? They trading Boychuk? Kelly? Soderburg? They need to get Krug and Smith signed and are already over the cap. They will get some relief, on day 1 of the season, when Marc Savard comes off the books, but that's a lot of time to wait.

Re: The official NHL thread
I'm hoping Chia will wait it out for Savard's $4 million and trade Bartkowski. That will be enough for Smith and Krug. I hate giving up on Boychuk although his contract is up along with Hamilton's after the season. I wouldn't rule out Marchand being dealt.WOLF wrote:Like Subban, overpayment, but teams need to do these things before their players hit the open market.Facedown wrote:Bruins extend Krejci 6yrs/43.5mil.

Re: The official NHL thread
I catered a party at Ron Hextall's shore house when I lived in NJ, probably 1998ish. Very cool guy. The bar I worked at was very "Flyer Friendly" and I met Tim Kerr, Bobby Clarke, Brian Propp and announcer Steve Coates. I also dated a girl who lived in the apartment complex right across the street from the Flyers practice facility and occasionally saw them arriving and leaving. The best thing was cooking for a bunch of the Dallas Stars when I worked at the Casino in AC. They had won the cup the previous year I believe and were in town playing the Flyers. I met Mike Modano, Benoit Hogue and a few others. Great guys, very gracious and thankful. I also got to cook for Chris Therien a few times and said hi to him, you talk about a monster of a guy.Yut343 wrote:Finally had the pleasure of meeting Trevor Linden this past Sunday as he was having an afternoon bike ride with the Mrs.. just outside my house in Kits. Any of you guys unexpectedly run into your all time favourite hockey players? Were they cool? A dick? Drunk? High? Have you met Linden, Gretzky, or Lemieux?

Not sure if they're over but I know they're pretty close. I know Krug took a pay cut (with bonuses) to sign, which probably kept them under.pieceofme wrote:You guys over the cap?Facedown wrote:Bruins sign Krug and Smith to 1yr/1.4mil deals.

Not with Savard's $4 million coming off the books. I still expect a bottom d man to be gone by the start of the season. Chiarelli has handled this bind perfectly so far. Wait for Savard's money and ship Bartkowski out of town. And leave Boychuk alone.pieceofme wrote:You guys over the cap?Facedown wrote:Bruins sign Krug and Smith to 1yr/1.4mil deals.

Re: The official NHL thread
i got to talk shop with melanson and miller. had to play two games that night. won 2-0 and 6-4.
i guess i learned something. lol.
i ended off my convo with miller by saying,"good luck this season. welcome to the goalie graveyard."
he looked at my kinda funny and said "what do you mean by that?" and then smiled.
wonder what would have happened if i wore my luongo jersey?

Nick Leddy to the Islanders. Blackhawks had to shed salary, so NYI get a pretty good defenseman. He still makes some goofy mistakes from time to time, but he's going to be good on the Island.

Islanders also got Johnny Boychuk from Boston for the same reason. The price for Boychuk was high - two 2nd rounders and a conditional 3rd. Rumor has it Boychuk will go back to Boston next year, as a UFA, as the Bruins' cap issues will be alleviated by then.Lardbucket wrote:Nick Leddy to the Islanders. The Islanders had to go for it because they can't risk not making the playoffs this year.
Good for them. I hope they do well this year. And they are two good players for them imo. Although the price is a bit steep for Boychuk.
