Pete Rose

Post by DaveB »

So he has apparently applied for reinstatement again and it's "being considered." What's everyone's thoughts about it?

I think he should be in the HOF but not allowed to be a part of the game. I think that what he did in his post-playing career may have been worse than those that use PED's. But as a player, he did nothing wrong. Nothing that we know of, anyway.

What say you?

Nope. Gambling is THE biggest "sin" in baseball. He knew that and did it anyways. Denied it for years and only came clean to coincide with the release of his auto.

He say's "he bet on his team to win," but we don't know the details. Did certain players have to log an amount of innings, etc? He signed with A Bartlett Giamatti ( RIP ) that he was banned for life. Pete Rose should remain banned for life.

He's in the HOF, just not enshrined. His cleats, records, bats, etc. are in Cooperstown, his records still stand. It's not like Clemens, McGwire, etc.

Fuck Pete Rose.

If everyone who ever did anything wrong was banned from the HOF, that place would be empty.

Pete's was more blatant than just not being a nice person. Fuck Pete Rose and I hope he never gets in.

Yeah, it doesn't really matter if he bet on his team to win. What would've happened (or did happen) when he got so far in the hole he couldn't pay it back? I'm sure it would've been nice for a bookie to have a MLB manager in his pocket.

Kill-Where is your sympathy? The man is 70+ yrs of age. He paid more than enough for what he did wrong. Baseball needs to recognize the man for what he did on the field, as a player. I would be more than welcome to the idea of mentioning that he was caught betting on the game as a manager while with the Reds. Pete may or may not be comfortable with that as well.
Pete betting on the game is not more of a crime than some of the guys who are already in the HOF or will be in the near future. Not fair to single him out and keep him away from the game.

Baseball has recognized him for what he did on the field as a player. He has pieces in the Hall, but won't ever be enshrined. That's recognition. I think he needs to remain banned.

I would be more sympathetic if he would have come clean about it a while ago. He didn't and now any possibility he had is too late.

The BBWAA has done a good job keeping the roid monkeys out, I think they continue Rose's ban too. McGwire, Clemens, Bonds, Pettite, Arod, Manny ain't gonna sniff the Hall. Neither will Rose.
