Believe it or not, Urban Meyer didn't even win Coach of the Year in the Big 10.
No Ohio State coach has won it since 1979. Not even Tressel in 2002 when they went 14-0 and won it all. Go figure.

Re: Any Love For The College Game?
The system was flawed from day 1. With a 4 team playoff, the talk will lead to why teams number 5 and 6 did not make itDaveB wrote:Funny how we thought that a four team playoff would settle things and here we are with six legit teams that should be in. Although while I'm glad that they created at least some kind of playoff, it really should be eight teams. We may see that in another 150 years.
I'm an SEC guy through and through but I tell ya, I think Oregon may be the strongest team right now.
If the playoff was 6 teams, then the complaining would be about teams 7 and 8.
The 8 team playoff system is the only answer but the old men that run the NCAA and exploit
the student athletes still are not smart enough to realize that.
The bottom line is money and if they were just honest with themselves and the public, the commitee would realize the 8 team playoff would bring in millions of more revenue.

Re: Any Love For The College Game?
Vegas numbers are out. Oregon is a 8.5 favorite over FSU while Bama is a 9 point favorite over OSU.
Are you kidding me? They think that Bama is going to have an easier game with Ohio State? Oregon is going to mop the floor with FSU.

Well, the Heisman finalists were named...Mariota, Cooper and Gordon. With only 3 being invited, its almost 100% positive that Mariota will be the winner...and he deserves it. As much as I love the Tide and think Amari Cooper is an awesome player, Amari did have an awful gme against Arkansas...and OJ Howard and Deandrew White have both been a help to the Tide...Amari wasnt as central to Alabama`s wins as Mariota has been to the Oregon...

Yeah, they are giving FSU credit now for carrying teams deep ino the 4th quarter...Oregon wont win by 3 or 4 points...they will win by double didgits unless their Defense falls apart and lets Jameis get off while he is in the pocket.DaveB wrote:Vegas numbers are out. While I favor Alabama over OSU, this should be a good, tight game. OSU`s Defense can be good...just look at what they did in the Big 10 Championship...that means Alabama will have to shift their Offensive schemes a fair amount from the air game to the ground game to keep them guessing.

Re: Any Love For The College Game?
I tell ya, and I REALLY hesitate to say this...but I just think the way Ohio State beat Wisconsin is...questionable, shall we say. The committee and the "powers that be" have been clamoring for weeks about getting them in. You take a third string qb that's never played and shut out a good Wisconsin team 59-0? I just don't know. But it sure as hell made the case to get them into the playoff, now didn't it?

I would lay the points and take Oregon. The public will be taking FSU all the way.DaveB wrote:Vegas numbers are out.

What I took away from that game is that Ohio State is pretty fucking good.eddie lee roth wrote:What are you trying to get at?DaveB wrote:I tell ya, and I REALLY hesitate to say this...but I just think the way Ohio State beat Wisconsin is...questionable, shall we say. I'm a die hard FSU fan to the point that their logo was my first tattoo and as much as I want to believe I just can't see them beating Oregon. They've played with fire too much this season. You can't pull that stuff with Oregon and get away with it.

I hope I'm reading Dave's post wrong but it looks like he's trying to say Wisconsin took a dive c'mon Dave tell me you didn't think that.

Re: Any Love For The College Game?
I'm not outright saying it. But if it were to come out that they did...it wouldn't be surprising at all.eddie lee roth wrote:I hope I'm reading Dave's post wrong but it looks like he's trying to say Wisconsin took a dive c'mon Dave tell me you didn't think that.
It's just too convenient. It played into the situation a little too well. OSU in the playoff is going to bring in more dollars than TCU or Baylor. And how do you justify OSU jumping into the playoff when they're sitting at number five?
I liken it to a couple of NASCAR scenereos. Dale Earnhardt gets killed at Daytona and who wins the following year? Jr. Last year when Dale's number 3 officially returned...who took the poll at Daytona? The number 3 car.
It's just one of those situations that makes you raise an eyebrow to.

38 bowls game this season.
Of course the NCAA put their student/athletes first
The NCAA exploits these kids like nobody else. Unreal how much money the NCAA makes from these kids during the college football season.

Re: Any Love For The College Game?
Well, even the "Famous Idaho Potato Bowl", the "Quick Lane Bowl" or the "San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl!" all pay out decent money to the schools who play there. That money then goes to help the Program where is needed...new uniforms, new equipment, adding scholarships...and all that leads to more recruiting ability. Its a never ending process for sure...DaveB wrote:'Cause nothing looks better on a program's resume than being champions of the "Famous Idaho Potato Bowl", the "Quick Lane Bowl" or the "San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl!"Machado wrote:38 bowls game this season.

Re: Any Love For The College Game?
Oh, sure! And of course, it's always about the money! But the whole thing has just become a complete joke. Any team that ends up with a .500 record is automatically bowl eligible.
In '90, there were 19 bowl games and getting to one actually meant something. This year...39! I think it's why some of the D1 schools are scheduling some of these cakewalk games. Six wins and you're in a bowl. And like you said, with a bowl game comes a fat paycheck.
Yet a kid that's on scholarship can't take $5 for an autograph. Fucking unreal!

Re: Any Love For The College Game?
Actually, most of the schools take a loss on their bowl games. By the time you factor in the travel and lodging of getting the team, the cheerleaders, and the band to the game; plus having to pay the cost for any unsold tickets, something like 70% of the teams playing in these games do so at a deficit to their athletic budget.DaveB wrote:And like you said, with a bowl game comes a fat paycheck.
Auburn actually lost money to play for the championship last year.
My alma mater has been to either 5 or 6 bowls, they've lost money on all but one (and that was only due to the close proximity of the game to the home campus).
Re: Any Love For The College Game?
Ugly brawl at the end of the Memphis/BYU game. Highlights show 1 player from each team bloody.
One particular BYU player who was great at throwing sucker punches took a brutal punch to the left cheek. He went down but rose up again and continued throwing punches and then backing up quickly.
What a puss!!!
Hoping the schools and/or the NCAA dismisses the guilty parties from the football team. There is no need for fighting at the end of a bowl game.

Re: Any Love For The College Game?
Thoughts on the bowl games thus far? Been some good match ups. Disappointed to see LSU lose to ND but it was evident early on that the Tigers weren't going to be able to hang in that one.
And being a big UK fan, it was nice to see Louisville get their ass handed to them by Georgia. Couple that with them getting beat by Kentucky on Saturday on the court, it's been a good few days for me. LOL

Re: Any Love For The College Game?
I'm disgusted with the season OU had. Nobody had as shitty of a season than OU it's not even close.
At one point they were favorites to be in the playoffs. They got beat at home several times. Baylor embarrassed them big time at home like never before and damn near killed our QB.
Stoops gives OSU the fucking game at home with his coaching. And fittingly the Clemson/OU bowl game has been the worst most one sided bowl game of the year.
But I still watch anyway.
Actually I haven't watched an entire game since the Clemson debacle but I'm looking forward to and will watch both of the games tommorrow.

Re: Any Love For The College Game?
Well I guess I stand corrected the TCU/Ole Miss game is the most one sided bowl game yet.

Re: Any Love For The College Game?
And I love it. I wish they had put 80 points on the board. I'm obviously an SEC nutswinger but TCU got screwed. I'm glad they did what they did.

Blame the Commissioner...he knew t wasgoing to happen as soon s he declared that the and Baylor would be "Co-Champions"...$5 says the Big 12 has a Conference Championship next year...DaveB wrote:And I love it. I cant believe Ole Miss has fallen apart this bad...guess they will have to live on beating Alabama for their watermark this season...
Tomorrow is when the shit hits the fan....I really dont give 2 shits who wins between Oregon and FSU...but deep down, I want Alabama and FSU to go head to head...but I think Oregon is gonna beat the fucking Crab Legs off Jameis and the Noles...
I got to go with Alabama taking the win over Ohio State...I just dont think the Buckeyes are quite as menacing without either Braxton Miller or JT Barrett under center. Granted, they did remarkably well against Wisconsin with Cardale Jones, but Wisconsin aint no Alabama! I dont think OSU will be able to defend against Omari Cooper, OJ Howard, Christian Jones and DJ White on the air assault or contain TJ Yeldon, Derrick Henry or Jalston Fowler in the backfield...and Blake sims in and out of the pocket, screen or maybe even the old Power I formation. Alabama sems to be firing pretty damn well on all cylinders..just like an older Chrysler..they just need to warm up a bit, then they idle like a sewing machine...
Predictions:
Rose Bowl = #2 Oregon 52 over #3 Florida State 35
Sugar Bowl = #1 Alabama 42 over #4 Ohio State 24
Championship Game = #1 Alabama 45 over #2 Oregon 42

Sorry, gonna have to gives us "SEC Honks" a translator of some sort...cant seem to decipher what you are crying about...I assume it has something to do with either your fav team or your fav conference not getting a shot...toughen up Twinkles, you got all of next year to try and make it to the Big Show...NeverSurrender wrote:SEC Honks, I won't tell you I told you so...

This has been a funny post season so far though. It didn't surprise me that TCU won. It did surprise me that Ole Miss got dismantled like they did though. TCU totally made them their bitch. And as I said, I gave that one up because I wanted to see TCU do exactly what they did as to give a big, "FUCK YOU" to the selection committee.
Didn't think ND was a better team than LSU. DEFINITELY didn't think that GT was going to beat Miss St.
On the flipside, it was the "iffy" SEC teams that took the wins. South Carolina has been weak all year and they pull one out. The A&M game could have went either way. Then you have Arkansas that looked like a doormat at the beginning of the season that totally turned their season around. Georgia taking care of Louisville wasn't a surprise though. Chubb has to be cleaning off a spot for next year's Heisman already.
So currently we have the SEC standing at 4-3 with five and possibly six more games left.
So NeverSurrender...you might want to hold off on the "I TOLD YOU SO" until everything is wrapped up.

Re: Any Love For The College Game?
Nahhh, Bama can still win and the SEC West will still be the fraud I called it months ago.
If FSU wins a second straight championship, does that make the ACC the greatest conference ever? Nope.
You can still hang your hat on Arkansas beating Texas though, lol.
How ridiculous does this look now. Remember. I told you this was horseshit then and Dave B pointed to some past SEC bowl record or something.

Must be nice to have 14 different teams to cheer for, until they blow it that is.

Re: Any Love For The College Game?
I don't understand your point with that pic. I've said the entire time that picking that final four was a waste of time until the season was actually done.
And if FSU wins a second straight championship, not only will it be the biggest miracle in the history of sports as we know it, but it will hardly make the ACC the greatest conference in football.
ALTHOUGH...if they *do* win it...and then over the next twenty years or so, the ACC manages to crown four or five *other* teams as national championships and surpass the SEC in overall bowl winning percentage...then they can *think* about saying that they're a better conference than the SEC.
