He's coming back to Boston. Going to work for NESN and not sure if it was MLB Network or MLB.com.

Yahoo sports is reporting Peter is moving
to MLB Network.

Something tells me this is not a $$ issue.
More of a personal choice to be closer to home more often, etc....

definitely not money...he's old school and a class guy, and he hasn't fit in to the ESPN culture for the last 10 years...now that the MLB network is on, he can do something about it...

MLB Network is taking the ESPN castaways, leftovers, etc...
First Harold Reynolds and now Gammons.
All they need is Steve Phillips

WOW!!!
I know the brewers had one of the worst starting staffs last year, but the amount of $ they are paying to this lefty is a bit high.

I know you've mentioned it before, Kill but what's with the hatred of Ellsbury? I know he had a down year last (2008) season after the promising playoffs the previous year but I thought he bounced back nicely this year.
He doesn't walk enough or hit for power but everything else seems to be fine.
He's just over-rated. You have a prospect who gets un-Godly hot in the 2007 Post-Season you trade him.

Jacoby was never projected to be anything but an above average OF. Above Average because he has speed, and that's about it. He's not a good defender, if I see one more single fall in front of him I'm going to fucking kill somebody.

For being the fucking leadoff, he should have a higher OBP. Not be dropped in the order. He swings at too many pitches outside. I just have no love for the guy, especially hearing the trade discussions in '07 that were dropped, because they deemed Ellsbury untouchable.

If he's so untouchable, how come they're talking about a possible move to LF, because he can't handle center?

I will admit though, the steal of home was pretty cool. So that's one.

anybody else hear John Kruk the other night
when discussing whether or not McGwire owes the media/fans an
explanation?
Fucking Kruk is a hypocrite to say the least or he's in bed with
the cardinals.
Kruk said that McGwire does not owe the media/fans anything. He's a hitting coach and nothing more.
For the love!
If any player from the steroids era owes an explanation, McGwire is at the top of the list.
The latest report is in approx 2 weeks he will hold a press conference.
He better be ready to hear tough questions, direct questions regarding PED's during his playing days.

He'll probably start sobbing and say "I'm not gonna talk about the past."

In all serious though, I can't remember where now, I'll post it when I do. I thought I heard that a lot of players don't like his instruction. The man can hit, but he wasn't good in coach role. I'll try to elaborate later. I wanna say Giambi said that.

i have a hard time believing he will last the entire season as the cardinals hitting coach.
something tells me he will be annoyed with the daily encounters with the media. eventually he will ask for a leave or absence, never to return.
ya know what i mean?
larussa is saying all the right things. going out of his way to defend his boy and give the impression that a cardinals hitting coach is where mcgwire wants to be right now,

There were some names floating around the Sox last night including Milton Bradley , Mike Cameron and a couple of others.
Sox trade Mike Lowell to Rangers for Max Ramirez.

Edit: There was also talk of bringing Coco Crisp back.

All this week ESPN has been airing 1 hr specials from
the winter meetings. Great reporting and discussions about playings moving, beind traded, possible signings, etc..

Last night they touched on a proposed trade(that makes no sense to me) that would send mike lowell to the cubs for milton bradley :?:
lowell is a corner infielder and the cubs currently have both 3rd and 1st base covered.

The Boston Red Sox have reached a preliminary agreement to trade third baseman Mike Lowell to the Texas Rangers for catcher Max Ramirez, sources told ESPN.

The Red Sox will pay $9 million of Lowell's $12 million salary. The trade was first reported by FoxSports.com.

A cash transfer of that magnitude would also require approval from the commissioner's office.

However, on Thursday morning, Rangers GM John Daniels said the deal is not yet done.

"Reports of the deal were somewhat overstated," Daniels said.

Red Sox GM Theo Epstein left the winter meetings before the Rule 5 draft and has not responded to requests for comment.

They must REALLY want Lowell out of town. Paying 3/4 of his salary! That's absurd!

Lowell for $3M is a good deal for the Rangers. And Ramirez can become their backup next year when Varitek goes. Good trade for both sides really. But this means that Boston is probably going to grab Adrian Beltre now.

what if the commish office gets in the way and does not approve the deal? that sure is a lot of money to pay for a player that is leaving a team.

Red Sox sign P Boof Bonser who had been released by the Twins.

Big deal in making sending Joe Saunders and Erick Aybar to Toronto for Roy Halladay. Angels won't complete trade unless Halladay signs a new deal.

For all the players Toronto has been demanding and looking for to get Halladay, I will let out quite a hearty belly laugh if they accept a #3 starter who's reached his ceiling and a league average-type shortstop for him. ENORMOUS fail.

Yankees blog has this projected line-up as of today:

Jeter SS
Damon DH
Teixeira 1B
Rodriguez 3B
Posada C
Granderson CF
Swisher RF
Cabrera LF
Cano 2B

Please discuss-
Cano batting 9th. WOW!!! That's a deep line-up indeed.

Especially since they could have had Buchholz, Masterson, Anderson, and Bowden for him last July, which is really only 2 months ago in "season terms".

There was a pretty good article about Halladay wanting to stay on the east coast and not wanting to sign a long term deal somewhere else. Since any team that gives Toronto enough of a package to get them to do a deal is going to want to sign him to a deal as part of the package that it really comes down to Philly, Boston, and NY. And since Toronto is going to want a premium to trade him in the division it really looks like they send him to Philly, end up taking lousy package in exchange for a 1 year rental, or have him walk next fall and get nothing. Definitely looking like epic fail.

I don't think there will be an Angels/Jays trade, at least for the next few weeks. Toronto is still asking way too much for Halladay, and the Angels tend to over-value their farm products. I think Aybar is almost untouchable. If he's in the trade, then they have Maicer Izturis starting at SS (shudder). If Aybar is indeed in the trade I don't see Saunders, or any other current big-league starter, in the deal.

They also might be working a deal with SD for Adrian Gonzalez and moving Youkilis back to 3rd.

The talk here is that after Lowell criticized management for the way they handle rain outs/delays that they have wanted him out regardless of what they got in return and that he has been aggressively shopped to just about every GM that will pick up the phone.

Now Sportscenter is reporting a denial issued by Ruben Amaro of the Phillies that the team is one of the biggest players in the Halladay sweepstakes. I've got kind of a chub thinking about a Halladay/Lee/Hamels rotation but they'd probably have to talk about the same guys they refused to give up last summer.

Although on paper statisically it doesn't, but Granderson maintains them as the best team in baseball IMO. People forget about the career years Matsui and Traitor had at the plate last season when discussing it.

The Granderson pickup to me is a lot like when they got Swisher. Like a "holy shit that's a good pickup."

Not gonna happen. They're not getting Halladay without giving up Lee.

He's not going to be traded. If I'm Boston I don't give up Buchholz for anyone but Pedro cica 1998. If I'm the MFY I don't give Hughes for anyone, but Felix Hernandez.

He's not going anywhere. Teams wanting to add him also have to add a massive extension. NY can sign him for 100+ million next season without draining their Farm system.
