Dude. I can't say much because the Angels still have Gary Matthews Jr making well over $10 million, but wow.

Apparently being a league-average innings eater holds a lot of value. Quick, somebody call Jon Garland.

They also avoided artbitration with Victorino, 3 yr/22 mil.

Doug Davis signs a one year deal with the Brewers.

As far as Blanton, with that pen I don't mind another guy that can go deep into a game.

Wouldn't it be kinda funny for them to sign Gagne and let him and Lidge close games?

So the Mets acquire Gary Matthews Jr. for RP Brian Stokes. Anaheim paying all but $2M of the money left to GMJ. (totaling like $21M!)

Only Omar.

Honestly I can't think of a

Peruse the moves he's made here (courtesy of MLBtraderumors.com):
http://rotoauthority.blogs.com/files/ne ... minaya.xls

Since he's taken over for the Mets there's been a lot of meaningless trades, the only real wins I can see are the Carlos Delgado trade (when Florida was in full-on firesale mode), Benson for Julio and John Maine, turning around and trading Julio for El Duque... and that's more or less it.

After that he gave away Brian Bannister for Ambriorix Burgos, gave Henry Owens and Matt Lindstrom to the Marlins for nothing, Heath Bell to the Padres for nothing, and the flop of a trade where he gave up Billy Wagner for nothing and also lost the draft picks that Wagner would have netted as a FA.

The Santana trade was good since Minnesota was so fucking dumb, and the big three-team deal with Seattle and Cleveland where the Mets acquired Putz turned out to be a wash.

Go through the tab with the signings he's made... that's where the fun is. Pure comedy.

Not to mention he's overseen 5 drafts with the Mets now and his highest profile guys are Parnell, Niese, and Pelfrey.

What a joke this guy is.

Don't forget he traded Brandon Phillips, Cliff Lee, and Grady Sizemore for Bartolo Colon either.

I can't forget this one.

Boston: Pedro, you have a tear in your rotator cuff.
Pedro: No I don't.
Boston: Then let us examine it to be sure.
Pedro: Nope.
Boston: Then were not comfortable giving you a four year deal.
Minyana: Oh I will! I will!

Idiot.

But honestly the question that needs to be asked is, is he dumber than Ed Wade?

I was talking to an Astros fan a few months back, and to hear the pain in his voice was sobering. It reminded me of darker days.

I was at work yesterday and having a busy day, and didn't have a chance to get on a computer until after lunch. As I was heading out to my car for lunch, a coworker who is also a baseball fan walked by, and said "Hey, how about the Angels trading Matthews to the Mets?"

I started laughing and said "No way!"

He said "Yeah, the Angels had to pay $20 million but they traded him to the Mets."

I kept laughing and said "Wow, only the Mets."

Only the Mets. Wow.

He could be a decent option, but I doubt he'll hit more than 10 HR and above .275. I guess if you're only paying $3 million that's OK. But yeah, thanks, Minaya!

I was really surprised he didn't do to well in his return to Oakland. I think he'll feast on NL pitching.

Not really baseball news, but something pretty cool for me that I wanted to share. I was already planning to go out to Tempe, AZ on the weekend of March 5 for some spring training games with a group of people who post on angelswin.com. Well, I just found out that I have to attend a work-related school in Luke, AZ (which is almost in the same area) from Feb 22 - March 22, so I'll be there for almost a month of spring training. Fucking awesome!

Jonathan Sanchez agrees to a one year 2.1m deal with San Francisco.

That's a guy I think has wicked potential if he can harness it. Adding talent to a rotation with Lincecum is ferocious.

Oakland picked up Sheets? That's a reclaimation project worth it's weight. Not Smoltz ( especially when Atlanta walks away ), not Fat Penny. It wouldn't surprise me to see him as the AL Comeback Player Of The Year.

So I'm guessing: Sheets, Anderson, Duchscherer, Braden, Gonzalez

Heading to AAA: Cahill, Mazzaro

I think the AL West is going to be very tight this season.

*edit*

Padres signed Jon Garland to a 1 year deal pending physical.

As per Joel Sherman.

MFY have reached 1-yr agreement with Randy Winn pending physical.

I guess that spells the end for Traitor  . Hopefully he ends up somewhere like Washington.

I think I would have preferred Reed Johnson, but for probably about $2M, you can't really hate the move. He's good with the glove and a veteran that can play the corners really well (and CF in a pinch).

Damon can go fuck himself! Was offered 2 years, $14M by the Yankees and felt 'insulted.' Ha ha ha. He'll get $5M from some shitty team now this year if he's lucky.

I'm really happy they never went crazy and went after Holliday.

Although I had kinda wished they would have went with Gardner in CF and Granderson in LF - then again, with Grand's numbers against lefties, Winn may steal some platoon ABs from him as well.

:(
Winn??? That switch hitter better bring his A game to ST and get off to a positive start.
Of the available players, I guess he might be one of the top choices, but besides his versatility on D, his offense does not impress me much

Damon was more than likely not going to accept a 1 yr deal worth $2 millions. That is a substantial pay-cut.
DAMN!!!
