There's only a month left in the season. They won't fire him, though he might resign.

Come on Tom. Just say you don't like the guy.n
Tom Jackson Bizarrely Attacks Jay Cutler For Not Saying Hello To People
Sean Newell
Sitting alongside Chris Berman as he has for so long, Tom Jackson has escaped criticism because the easy target gets hit the most. But Tom Jackson is just as awful and this is but one example. Jay Cutler was concussed two weeks ago and was just named the starter for the Bears today. Rather than a gritty player returning to play an important divisional game narrative we have Tom Jackson going on some insane tangent about how Jay Cutler doesn't say hello to anyone walking into the stadium. "It doesn't mean anything, it's just something."
What is the point of this half-baked, passive aggressive attack? Jackson was a Broncos lifer so maybe Cutler's time in Denver rubbed Jackson the wrong way and he just doesn't like Jay Cutler. It certainly seems like the intent was to paint Cutler as a bad guy—"I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'"—but who knows, it comes out of nowhere and is admittedly without meaning. We edited the actual segment to make it digestible since Jackson's non sequitur happened some five minutes after the actual footage of Cutler aired. It should be noted, too, that if Jackson's point was not already stupid, it also appears to be factually inaccurate. At about the :08 mark in the video, you can clearly see Cutler acknowledging at least one of the guys Cutler walked by during the random six seconds ESPN filmed him.
This is where we are in our sports pop psychology. Jay Cutler is an aloof weirdo with the media and is therefore an asshole to people walking into the stadium and that may or may not have an impact on the game. He is not, say, a focused professional with his game face on. But really, either one of those takes would be stupid. Tom Jackson—an authoritative voice presented by ESPN—is no different than one of those body language experts in US Weekly talking about how Brad Pitt is getting divorced because some paparazzo caught him slouching. This kind of stuff is going on all the time and it becomes, like, a real storyline. It gets discussed on sports radio, broken down on message boards and referenced by columnists and beat writers alike. It is absolutely dumbing down sports discourse and it's coming from the top down.

Did anybody notice Jim Schwartz had the same smug look on his face while blowing the game for his team as he does when he's beating a team on their 4th string corner and playing a rookie qb.

what a stupid rule by the NFL.NeverSurrender wrote:Did anybody notice Jim Schwartz had the same smug look on his face while blowing the game for his team as he does when he's beating a team on their 4th string corner and playing a rookie qb.
so the coach tosses a challenge flag on the field and as a result, his team can not challenge the play, even though video evidence clearly shows he TD should not be allowed.
having the rule in place is stupid
not changing the rule 1 day after the incident is just dumb.
the NFL could care less about the integrity of the game, the safety of the players, etc....

They're alread looking at changing the rule in season. I seriously doubt another head coach will be that fucking dumb though.Machado wrote:what a stupid rule by the NFL.NeverSurrender wrote:Did anybody notice Jim Schwartz had the same smug look on his face while blowing the game for his team as he does when he's beating a team on their 4th string corner and playing a rookie qb.

Why isn't there a rule by the NFL that says, when video evidence can clearly correct a call on the field, then let's use the replay and make the game better.bane wrote:They're alread looking at changing the rule in season. Nah
Instead we get a limit on the number of challenges because someone in a suit believes the game will be delayed to a point where fans will get restless.
Wrong!
Maybe the massive number of TV ads is making the game go on and on.

Re: NFL 2012 Thread
The NFL already tried the "review every fucking play" system back in the late 1980s...and it fucking SUCKED. Games took forever. Plus, some plays would get reviewed and some wouldn't, depending upon how fast you could line up and get off a snap.
They reviewed virtually every pass interference call.
"Upon further review..."
It sucked and took forever. The current system is fine. The rule Schwartz blew should be changed, but a rule is a rule. It's right up there with calling two timeouts in a row. Don't fucking break the rule by being a dumbass and you don't have to worry about the consequences. Virtually everyone in that stadium knew that TD play was automatically going to be reviewed, except for the Lions head coach.

The technology is there, but the "rules" keep the bad calls on the field from being reversed.
Calling 2 timeouts in a row is nowhere near the same as having a team score a TD that should not actually be a TD because the player with the ball touched the field of play with his knee.
Face it-
The league does not care about the integrity of the game.
They would rather let the ref's make bad calls, not be reversed and have the fans and t.v. experts discuss the play for a week.

Re: NFL 2012 Thread
Rules are rules. You can't make exceptions just because common sense says you should. I'm not sure what the purpose of that particular rule is, and the league has already said they were looking at changing it, but bottom line is, if Shwartz isn't such an undisciplined hothead, we aren't talking about it today.Machado wrote:B.S.Crazy Levi wrote:It sucked and took forever. Re: NFL 2012 Thread
I think the rule should be changed to one in which you get a 15 yard penalty on the ensuing play. Not changing the call because an idiot throws his flag when he can't is pretty ridiculous.

Too bad that story wasn't even about RLeaf3, and he was only on the cover for east coast versions of the magazine. Luck is the featured cover story and is on the national cover.

Luck is having a nice rookie year, good for him.
Too bad there's only gonna be one rookie of the year, and it won't be him.

I hope Luck and RG3 both win the ROTY in a split vote. Then both of you ballwashers can sig display each others mancrush.

You mad bro? The Vikings drafted Christian Ponder, insuring you have to waste another draft pick on a QB soon, when they could have gotten Kaepernick instead.NeverSurrender wrote:He should know the rule, and shouldn't settle for a 47 yard FG on third down.
The Lions may have 99 problems but a starting caliber QB aint one.
Oh wait I looked it up. Now I get where all your hate for the Lions comes from. Your head coach Leslie Fraiser has led the team to last place in the NFC North for two years and counting now.
Or maybe your just mad because the last good band to come from Minnesota was the Replacements 20 years ago.

You're right Frazier is kina lame, but he doesn't fist pump while up by 30 points or brawl with opposing coaches on the sidelines. And you qb you're so proud of? The one who never throws any tds in the first half even though he has the best wr in the NFL on his team? And why are you talking shit, when my team has beat your cellar dwelling team something like 23 out of 27 times and 2-0 this season. I don't know why you bag on the Vikes, I admit their flaws, sin wrote:You mad bro? I don't deny the 0-2 record against the Vikings this year. Hell everyone has beat the Lions if you were to look at them from 2000-2010.
But lets face it without Adrian Peterson the Vikings would find a way to be worse than 0-16 if it were possible. Even the mighty Brett Favre could only make them look good for 1 season.
I've never seen anyone here so obsessed with having to have another team to insult. I hate the Bears, always have. But I don't make comment after comment about Jay Cutler or Lovie Smith. Enjoy your 3rd place finish if you can hold on to it this year.
Maybe next year Adrian Peterson can make the cover of Madden and deal with its curse. But that would mean all 200 people in Minnesota with an internet connection would have to vote for him.
Your right, your not mad at the Lions. You just got so used to being able to say wow we really fucking suck! But at least were better than the Lions. Now thats all changing.

Re: NFL 2012 Thread
2-0 and physically dominated in both games. Change.
Jim Schwartz is pompous pud, and I know fans from all teams who think that. One thing is funny, you haven't debated anything I've said, because it's all true.
Did you say 0-16 without Adrian Peterson?
0-16, you'd know all about that wouldn't you? Your coach is a putz, deal with it.

Re: NFL 2012 Thread
I threw out the 0-16 thing because anyone with half a brain is going to bring it up at some point. (Note not under Schwartz as coach.)
And Stafford has thrown 2 touch downs in the first half this year, and oh wow 19 last year in the first half.
I don't deny Jim Schwartz overreacts out of emotion on occasion. But I don't see it being any worse than several other coaches including Jim Harbaugh. I just feel its far to early to be saying he sucks when Rex Ryan still has a job.
