To me Pau Gasol is the MVP...he has played hard, great, and consistent every game and is hugely talented...he is the anchor of the team when he's on the floor

but Kobe would win MVP if they won, because of his PPG...that is intentional on the Lakers part..."yes, we need everyone to contribute, but we want Kobe to take the credit so that we can call it "his" championship"
I would say Gasol for LA and Rondo for Boston. Gasol has been the best Laker so far(although I agree that they would give it to Kobe "just because"). For the Celtics, Pierce, KG, and Allen have taken turns playing a good game and then a lousy game while Rondo has been the most consistent for them. If Big Baby continues to step up over the last 2-3 games then he could be in the running too.
Big Baby has really stepped it up in this years playoffs. And 'Sheed, it's like he slept through the regular season and then came to life in the Cleveland series....

That shot Gasol scored for Boston was AWESOME. If Boston should win, Pau Gasol should be the MVP! 8)

The officiating really sucked at the end of the game last night. I have never seen so many offensive fouls in a 5 minute stretch in almost 40 years of watching the NBA. Crawford turned it into a jump shooting contest with his whistle and both teams were afraid to drive to the hoop without getting called for a foul.

It was pretty ugly. Both ways. That "charge" that Pierce took was a REALLY bad call.

Rondo's "shoving" foul coupled with Artest's flopping was some bad officiating. First time I found myself agreeing with Van Gundy in a while.

What I don't get is why they called it loose all game and for the most part let them play and then in the last 5 minutes started calling stuff they let go all game. If anything it's usually the other way around. Both teams got gun shy down the stretch because of the refs. I'd rather they let all but the real blatant stuff go and let the teams decide the game on the floor instead of at the free throw line. And normally when they do get whistle happy it's defensive fouls, not charges and push-offs and hand checks.

That call on Pierce was bullshit, and Kobe didn't look happy with the calls against him either. That game could have been a classic with Pierce and Kobe taking turns going to the hoop at the end but Crawford blew his whistle every time one of them drove inside so both teams got passive and launched 20 footers. I hope they have a decent crew working game 6, but I doubt it.

I usually give NBA officials the benefit of the doubt, because I think it is the hardest sport to officiate. However, last night was crap.

Did you even watch the game?

The officials might as well be wearing Lakers uniforms.
Only thing that kept the Faker's in the game.
If not for them this game would have been a blowout.

Celtics shot 56%................Laker's 40%
No way this game should have been close.

The foul shots were gifts from the NBA to the Laker's to try and save them from drowning.

I know that this series is far from over, and that Kobe will be in assassin mode in the next game, but I gotta say, this rules:

Since Ray Allen is my favorite player, and Kobe is making a fool out of him, I'd just post this defensive play from Ray Allen just to compensate for his sucky offense lately:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OF4dRipX ... r_embedded

Replay wasn't available for a crucial play last night. With 1:05 left to play and the Celtics up 87-82, Ray Allen shot what appeared to be an air ball as the shot clock was about to expire. After Celtics' center Kendrick Perkins grabbed the rebound, the whistle was blown and it looked like the Lakers -- who seemed to have the momentum at that point -- would get the ball back.

Instead, the refs huddled together and determined, without instant replay but with plenty of advocacy from the Celtics and Lakers' respective benches and perhaps the Boston crowd, that the ball actually glanced the rim. The Celtics got the ball back with a fresh 24 seconds on the shot clock and would go on to win the game.

The Whining Index

Based on observing players' reactions after they were whistled for fouls in the first five NBA Finals games, here's how often each team complained about or disputed a call.

LAKERS % of COMPLAINTS CELTICS % of COMPLAINTS
Team Rate - 36% Team Rate - 48%
Kobe Bryant - 50% Ray Allen - 73%
Pau Gasol - 50% Kendrick Perkins - 68%
Derek Fisher - 38% Rasheed Wallace - 65%
Lamar Odom - 27% Rajon Rondo - 50%
Ron Artest - 23% Paul Pierce - 36%
Andrew Bynum - 15% Kevin Garnett - 32%

The players, of course, have their own thoughts. In the first five games of the Finals—which continue Tuesday with Game 6 in Los Angeles—the Celtics screamed, threw up their arms or spun around in disgust (or all three) after 48% of the fouls they were called for, according to an analysis by The Count. We looked at every foul in the series that wasn't intentional, tracked the observable reactions and gave extra weight to the more blatant complaints. The Lakers expressed displeasure about 36% of the time, even though Kobe Bryant disputed half of his while Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce only bickered about one-third of theirs.

At least Mr. Bryant's carping was usually sedate, consisting mainly of dirty looks and puzzled stares toward referees (we didn't include the time he yelled at a teammate for being in the wrong place). The Celtics' Rasheed Wallace, an infamous hothead, wasn't so calm—he whined about 65% of his calls, usually jumping and running around the court in frustration. Then there is Lakers' center Andrew Bynum, the biggest player on the court. He only took issue with 15% of his calls, the lowest mark of any regular player in the series.

OF COURSE, NO OTHER WAY THE CELTICS COULD ADVANCE THROUGH THE FINALS, FUCKIN FAGS.

That doesn't say which team was called for the most fouls, it just says which team complained the most about fouls that were called.

So far:
Game 1: C = 28, L = 26
Game 2: C = 29, L = 29
Game 3: C = 27, L = 20
Game 4: C = 21, L = 23
Game 5: C = 23, L = 22

So over 5 games the Celtics have been called for 8 more fouls than LA.

But now let's look at free throws:
Game 1: C = 36, L = 31
Game 2: C = 26, L = 41
Game 3: C = 24, L = 24
Game 4: C = 23, L = 22
Game 5: C = 13, L = 26

LA has gone to the line 22 more times than the Celtics.

So there is no way you can say the only reason Boston has a 3-2 series lead is because of the refs.

those numbers are way skewed, Lakers are known for whining more than any other team in the last 3 years and u know it...they all follow Kobe's lead...I admit they arent as bad in these Finals, because Kobe hasn't been as bad...they learned their lesson from last year's rough playoffs against Houston and Denver, and discovered that it hurts them more than it helps them...Kobe decided it's not worth getting T'd up...but believe me, the Lakers are by far the worst at pretending they're mad even when it was a blatant foul

most of the times the Celtics have whined in these Finals has been on ticky-tack fouls...and even those are puzzled looks, outside of Rasheed

as far as Bynum, how is he the lowest figure? he is stuck in last year's Laker strategy of complaining about every call, as if to try win seniority points with Kobe...even the other Lakers have had to hold him back from the ref's a bunch in these Finals...he complains 95% of the time

LA has gone to the line 22 more times because Kobe drives the lane. A casual fan can see the Celtics don't have a drive and slasher like Bryant.

^This tells it right here.

The Refs are keeping The Lakers in this series.
The Celtics are still winning because they are the much better team.

Game 5 Free Throws.
C = 13, L = 26
This is the only reason the game was not a blowout.

LA has gone to the line 22 more times because Kobe drives the lane. A casual fan can see the Celtics don't have a drive and slasher like Bryant.
Pierce drives to the hoop when he isn't being nailed for a charge every time he steps into the paint. Both he and Kobe were making quite a show of it in game 5 until Crawford started whistling both of them for driving to the hoop.

The point I am making is that there is no way anyone can say the only reason Boston has a 3-2 lead is because of the refs. Now if the Celtics had gone to the line 22 more times than LA and won a couple of games by 2-3 points then there might be some merit to that argument, but the stats clearly show that Boston has not been favored by the refs.
