Holy shit. What a start by Dice tonite!

7IP 106 pitches 9K 0BB 1ER

Now looking at pitch F/X he barely threw his slurve and was sitting on his 4 seam the majority of the game. Lots of strikes. Check this shit out:

Image

And check out his velocity.

Image

I'm still getting into how to really understand and read Pitchf/x. It's fucking cool though.

If there was a team to get Matsuzaka back on track, Toronto is the one to do it. They lead the league in team strikeouts at 289 prior to tonite, and have a .312OBP so if you're gonna pitch like this super ace. This is who you want in the batter's box.

Unfortunatley Dice's next start is against the MFY this weekend in MFY Stadium. That 0BB shit will not repeat. Researching a little I found he doesn't consistently put dominant starts back to back.

Using a stat called Game Score, which is rather odd in some of the ratings. For the record a QS = 50 using game score. Here's his dominant starts, and the next one ( tonite ranks at a 76 ).

8/29/2008 - 83
9/03/2008 - 53

7/03/2007 - 82
7/08/2007 - 26

6/27/2007 - 79
7/03/2007 - 82

9/21/2008 - 77
9/28/2008 - 45

6/16/2007 - 76
6/22/2007 - 62

5/14/2007 - 76
5/19/2007 - 58

4/01/2008 - 75
4/08/2008 - 69

4/30/2008 - 75
5/05/2008 - 52

I'm gonna start playing around more with game score after this weekend. It's pretty ingrained in http://www.baseballreference.com so I'm gonna start fucking around with it more on the more "nerd" sites.

Oh just for fun, On starts ranking a 60 or above. Dice K had 6 in a row ( so he was dominant for a stretch......once ) 06/05 - 07/03 2007. Pedro's and Clemens' run? Wow.

I'm curious about the NY game's game score. He's going from a 76 to ?????

I haven't seen the story yet, but evidently the Phillies have been warned about stealing signs. Bullpen coach with binoculars or some shit.

Mets vs. Marlins, Thursday night baseball, 7pm on MLBN. My ass will be in my seat at Joe Robbie!
WATCH! Santana vs. JJ!
He ain't the Minnesota Santana anymore, so it's not like you're facing Lincecum.
Yankees GM Cashman was a very smart man by not trading Hughes and whomever else for Santana a couple years ago :)
I heard a player on the radio recently who said that Santana barely throws 90 and does not put the fear in opposing hitters like he used to.
Losing 4-5 MPH on his fastball makes a significant difference.

Put Santana in the AL East right now and he'd look about like Javier Vazquez does. GREAT non-move by both Boston and New York there.

Kill-
Your favorite Yankee dominated again last night.
7 scoreless innings, 8 K's and is now
5-0, 1.38 ERA

I watched most of the game on ESPN
Sutcliffe was salivating over how well Hughes was throwing. The guy could not say enough. Then again, Sutcliffe almost always gushes over whomever is playing the best during his telecast.

John, did you go, or are you going at all this series? Thoughts/opinions?
Still have the season tickets. 2 of the 3 errors were awful throws that had 8 foot Derrick Lee making what the fuck faces. The worst thing about the Cubs excellent starting pitching is the turd combo (supersized) with Lee and Ramirez. You're two cornerstone hitters can't do what they've done. You should have heard the sarcastic applause when Aramis had his first hit of the night on what would have been an infield fly had anyone been on base.

Lily hit 89 on the gun on Monday so that's good news. I was in Indy for Butch on Tuesday and it was colder than balls yesterday so I blew it off.

My main beef after rewatching the game yesterday is how many hitters swing at really shitty pitches from Marmol. If I'm an opposing manager I tell ever person on the roster the first person to swing at a pitch without taking a called 1st strike is fucking cut.

We're in the middle of the worst baseball blahs we've had in the city in 10 years. It's May 13th and fans of both teams have given up hope of ANYTHING.

Still have the Blackhawks though.

He started off pretty well off the bench. He Cano, Swisher, and Gardner basically masked the slow starts by Teix, Jeter and Arod. Since May 1st he's had 14AB 1HR 22B 3RS 3RBI and seen his SLG rise 0.91 He was starting to be heat up.

So basically it could be worse. He could be Pat Burrell.

When healthy he is very good. Cashman took a chance and it looks like it might not work out. Hopefully he will not need surgery and can come back in a few weeks. I guess at $5 million, you can't complain too much. If it wasn't for his injuries, he would be worth 15 million.

Yeah, he doesn't have the best track record for recovery. Cortisone shots could work though, which would only leave him unavailible for a few weeks. Plus with Teix, etc. starting to hit their career norms. I don't really see it as a too big a deal.

Quick question...why was Rivera pitching in the 8th inning in today's game? Was surprised he blew it, and then saw it was only the 8th. :?:

Anyhoo...
BROOMED the Mess! (4 game series, first time we did that in years, I think.) 16 days ago the Mess were in 1st place, now they find themselves in the basement. Too funny. :D Although the Fish made it a little too interesting today for my liking...thank you, Chris Coghlan for easing my fears. David Wright had a VERY bad day in the field, he could just not get it together. Warmed my cold heart. And I can't believe he's leading the league in Ks, including 2 today. Keep it up, buddy!!!

This news still shocks me because I have to wonder if the kid did not drink any milk while growing up?
Might as well change his uniform # to "fragile".

Heard on Yes Network that he as given a cortisone shot.
Yankees will wait a few days before announcing whether the shot
was successful or not.

There are comparisions to vernon wells' wrist injury last year.

I don't see why Johnson couldn't play even if he had one hand.

The fucking guy was "hitting" .167/.388/.306... for those of you that aren't stat-heads, all he was doing was walking and when he was making contact he had no power.

I was surprised to see Mo enter the game in the 8th.
I understand Mo was out of action for about 10 days and has not pitched much, but it's only May.
Girardi should have allowed Joba to escape the inning and save Mo for
the 9th.

Mo entered the game and walked thome-Mo's first walk with the bases loaded since 2005. Amazing stat.

Soooo Fredi pulled Hanley from the game tonight. Hanley's been mailing it in lately, he's starting to turn into Miguel Cabrera. :? Shit's getting annoying...he goes thru these mini-meltdowns, then goes back to the old Hanley.

Last night was another example why the Yankees/red sox is the greatest rivalry in sports.
There was not much fanfare leading up to the game. Probably due to the red sox are playing .500 ball and nowhere near 1st place.

A-Rod tied the game in the 9th off the sox closer.
2 batters later Marcus Thames becomes a true Yankee with his "walk off" 2 run homer to left.

that whole situation is getting interesting. Fredi says he won't start Ramirez until he aplogizes, Hanley says he won't. Glad I traded him off my Fantasy team. Dudes a great player and he might've ben hurt after the Foul off his ankle, but for fuck sakes just apologize and get back in the line-up for the fans. He'll be wanting out of Florida if this isn't handled.
agreed about the ego thing, Rollins handled it perfectly when manuel benched him, HanRam needs to do the same, The Marlins are a good team they don't need that BS.

ESPN Baseball Tonight was all over hanley for his lack of hustle last night.
Sounds like nobody has control of this locker room.
When rollins had his beef with his manager, rollins did the right thing because that locker room has 1 ultimate leader-the manager
Obviously the marlins have serious problems if the star player won't respect the manager behind the scenes and in the press

One of the rumors on the Mighty Red Sox's reasoning for trading such a valueable prospect was his maturity level.

I'm just paraphrasing right now unfortunatley, but I seem to recall this being an issue with him since AA. Add to the fact he's a superstar now.....

He had issues playing with the Lowell Spinners back in 2002. I remember his manager at the time Mike Boulanger saying that right off the bat he was AAA ready as far as talent but that even then he liked to play to the crowd and that he would be very inconsistent game to game over the course of a season.

He may actually have been better off in a big city like Boston where there is such intense focus on every game, but if he pulled that primadonna shit here he would be run out of town.

I think Uggla should just whale on Hanley. He'd break that kid in half.

Hanley said he was hurt. So was Brian Barden, and he went out and played and hustled and contributed, as did Cody Ross, who got drilled in the leg/knee area with a 95 MPH fastball. Made a fabulous diving catch as well. Hanley's a pussy.
Then he has the gall to trash his manager like that...that's just inexcusable. THEN, he says, and I'm paraphrasing, "Let's see what those 24 other players go out there and do what I do." Guess what, puto? THEY DID! Oh, and he sat all by himself on the bench, and when the cameras panned to him, he fucking HID!
Goddammit. You don't see this kind of behavior from Albert Pujols. And Derek Jeter.
The majority of fans from what I've heard/read is Team Fredi. But there are those blind Hanley nutswingers who insist the sun shines out of his ass and are demanding Fredi be fired. I'd LOL SO FUCKING HARD if he got traded to KC. Make it happen, gimme some Grienke!

I'm pissed. Can you tell???!
