Somewhere in here there's a payroll joke, and I'm gonna find it. j/k

With the unfortunate rash of injuries plaguing the Mighty Red Sox right now, they're still winning. It's hard to complain. Unlike what happened in '06 :?

Tomorrow is July 1st. Manny now has a hamstring issue. It's a little early for him, he usually waits until after the all-star break to get 4-5 weeks off.

Varitek has a broken foot and will be out 4-6 weeks. MDC is on the 15 day disabled list. I don't think I can remember seeing this many guys on the Sox get hurt in such a short period of time.

And on top of that both catchers at AAA - Wagner and Brown - are on the 7 day DL too and the PawSox had to bring up Apodaca to catch for them. Cash is the only catcher in the entire system over AA at this point, and he just got here today. As of right now there is nobody in the organization familiar with the Sox pitchers unless you count Cash catching Wakefield. As much as they have weathered all the injuries I think the injury to Varitek will be the one to sink them.

Big omission.

And the rule that every team has to have a representative at the game is ridiculous. It's cutting undeserving players out.

Because he's about to get exposed this week in Fantasy BB?

Seriously, I don't know what Manuel is thinking. He picks the scrub from the Braves over Votto? Ridiculous.

I can understand to an extent the necessity to have a utility guy on the roster, sort of how Girardi took Ty Wigginton... but at the expense of a truly deserving player it's crazy.

Votto should be the starting DH! Let's hope the fans have the good sense to vote him in. The Mid-Summer classic needs all the Canadians it can find!

Went to Miami today for our seat selection for the new ballpark!

Overall, we're very pleased. We're just off first base, elevated (called "Vista Reserved) Row A (front row!) And a TERRIFIC view of everything...both bullpens, the HR celebration pool thingy, Marlins dugout, out of town scoreboards, great view of the big screen and other screens, can see the aqariums, and the Miami skyline. :)

Here's a link to the general area where we will be, hope it works:

http://www.seats3d.com/mlb/florida_marlins/

There is an orange dot at the top of the page, which is Sec 304. Our section is to the right of it. Click on the dot, and it will give you a 3-D view. Let me know what you think.

Robinson Cano has been chosen to participate in the HOME RUN Derby.

I don't care for the idea so much.
Cano will probably have a great time and enjoy himself, but as a fan, I would prefer to see him not participating.

The Yankees coaches also have voiced their opinion on the situation:
Kevin Long understands the appeal of the home run derby, but he left no doubt yesterday: If he had his way, Robinson Cano would not be participating.

“I would prefer that he’s not involved in it, but that’s not my decision,” the Yankees hitting coach said. “…It’s just an exhausting process. It takes a lot out of you. It’s taxing. You see guys come back after the home run contest and it affects their swing.”

Long isn’t worried about Cano coming back suddenly hitting nothing but fly balls, but he’s worried that the exhaustion of trying to hit home run after home run might lead to subtle changes. The contest, he said, is a big difference from batting practice. Cano will be trying “launch” every pitch.

“It’s not so much altering a swing,” Long said. “You know he’s going to try to pull the ball quite a bit. I don’t think it’s going to affect his swing more than it’s just going to take a toll on his body.”

Joe Girardi said pretty much the exact same thing — “For me it’s fatigue because I don’t think Robby would change a whole lot,” Girardi said — but Alex Rodriguez said he would recommend Cano take advantage of the opportunity. He sees no harm in the derby.

“I’m not going with the mind to just hit the ball the farthest or anything like that,” Cano said. “Just go out there like I swing in BP. Regular swing and don’t try to do too much.”

JOSH JOHNSON, MOTHERFUCKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11 Who's the mofo here that has him in their fantasy league?

If he doesn't start the ASG, someone's smokin' crack. 1.70 ERA. I think his arm is bionic.

Another thing...ever since Jose Veras came back up from the minors, he has been MONEY. Totally lights out. Hopefully that'll help Chris Volstad.

After almost going to the Yankees, it looks like Cliff Lee is headed to Texas.

Good, I was pissed at the thought of the Yankees giving up Montero for a rental, since an extension window was not part of the deal.

Texas can't afford to re-sign him anyway so he'll be on the market after the season.

Starting pitching wasn't the Yankees' biggest weakness so to be honest I don't know why they were in on him anyway, other than to keep him from Tampa or whomever.

They weren't going to lock him up? Was that his decision or theirs?

It's his decision. Lee wants to hit free agency at the end of the season and will not sign an extension wherever he goes. It is effecting his value on the market as no team is going to give up a lot to rent him for 10 weeks.

Yup... evidently he really wants to test the market.

I know the Yankees are hot for him, and based on what I just read about him having made a few calls to CC Sabathia over the past day about coming over to them, he'll probably wind up there. Not like money is ever an issue but he probably wants to play with his buddy.

Vazquez and potentially Pettitte off the books frees up money for Lee who *should* command about $14M per year but is probably going to hit a lot closer to $20M.
