Expanding the fanbase and interest, which would therefore lead to more "potential" media revenue.bane wrote:What about it is a good idea in theory?cantstopthemusic wrote:

That's the theory. They're looking out 10-25 years into the future.
David Stern (NBA) is of the same mindset, BTW.
In reality, it would be an absolute clusterfuck in BOTH cases.
Re: NFL 2011 Thread
Correct. They wouldn't be residents so not subject to UK income taxes. Also, VAT is 20% not the 15 Skydog mentioned. So they would be getting fucked there.Crazy Levi wrote:Despite being a Jew I'm no accountant.SkyDog112046 wrote:The league average salary is $1.6M. If you are an average free agent and you have a choice of 5 or 6 US based teams with federal and state taxes around 40% or going to London with their taxes somewhere around 65%, where are you going to go?
Taking home $960k vs $560k is a no brainer. Taking away all the logistical aspects of the travel and being away from family out of it there still is just too much of a disparity in the money to make it feasible. Maybe they would have to have an adjusted salary cap to even out the take home.
But would they still have to pay those UK taxes only living there for 4 or 5 months a year?
Even training camp they could do in the US.
Re: NFL 2011 Thread
Was NFL Europe a total failure? I mean, it seems to me instead of this "World League" idea, a better idea would be to have an NFL on different continents, and then maybe each year have a tourney between all the continent winners to see who are world champions. Of course that kind of expansion would be a huge, huge project and very, very costly.cantstopthemusic wrote:Expanding the fanbase and interest, which would therefore lead to more "potential" media revenue.bane wrote:What about it is a good idea in theory?cantstopthemusic wrote:

Tom is officially Eli's bitch. And Peyton is officially the lesser Manning.

Great game. Down to the wire.
WAY TOO MANY dropped passes by the Patriots in the 4th QTR.
Gotta make the plays (like that HUGE catch by Manningham).

Welker and Branch could have iced that game on 2nd & 3rd down near the end but both dropped catchable balls.
Overall I thought it was a lousy game. Both teams played way too conservatively and neither team tried to open it up. It's like both teams played the whole game playing for last possession.

Fuck, will these two teams ever play a game with a margin of 7 points? 5?
I enjoyed that loads. Not quite what I was expecting, although I'm not surprised by the result.

Yeah and Jeff Hostettler >>>>>>>>>>>>>>Dan Marino. Peyton is the better overall QB up to this point. Eli may surpass him but just because his TEAM has one more title than Peyton hardly makes him a better QB....Yet.

How many of those stats do you think Marino would give up to have a ring? 100 out of 100 times these guys play the game to win a championship. You can keep all the records and shit. I'm sure he'd love to have a ring but Do you honestly believe He'd trade resumes with Hostetler, Rypian or Dilfer?? hell no, He's universally considered a top 5 all time QB, and that's with no ring. Peyton is also a top 5 QB, his brother is not in that catagory yet, LMAO @ bradshaw, him and Namath are the 2 most overrated QB's ever.Space Bear wrote:How many of those stats do you think Marino would give up to have a ring? 100 out of 100 times these guys play the game to win a championship. Y'all may want to save this one for that "mark my words" thread that you love so much. SPOT fucking ON.poizond13 wrote:When all the hype and talk is over, I am looking forward to what should be a fantastic football game. Football is by far the greatest game in the world and this will be the last time we get to enjoy it for a good while. I'm looking forward to what I expect to be a very close game. Both teams are playing very well. If you ask me, both teams are at their peak, which is what you would want in a game like this. In the end I think the Giants' pass rush will get to Brady, and N.E. will feel the loss of Gronkowski, as he will not be his normal self in this game. I expect him to be more of a decoy than anything. I also feel like the Giants have too many offensive weapons, and Eli will pick apart NE's weak secondary all night long.
I'll be rooting hard for Eli and the Giants, but I expect a great game.

That was a good game. Not really as exciting as the last Giants/Pats bowl but still another nice close contest.
How much do the Pats and Pats fans have to hate the Giants? Not only have they been a thorn in their side for 4 years now, but they did EXACTLY what they said they'd do - beat the shit out of Tom Brady and get him off his game.
I tip my hats to the Giants. 4-1 in the Super Bowl, clearly one of the league's premier franchises over the past 30 years.

Who do you want? The guy who puts up big numbers all season, and then loses half the time in the playoffs?
Or the one who fucking turns it on in the playoffs and makes huge, clutch throws?
I would think most NFL teams would rather have Eli than Peyton right now, even if Peyton is cleared to play.

I'm not trying to take anything away from Eli, and he's a helluva lot better than I thought He would be but Chris Carter is an idiot and like So many experts jumping the gun just a tad. He has the potential to pass his brother but He sure as fuck hasent done it by winning one more title than Peyton. He has a few more seasons like this and he probably will with the sissified rules, then Yeah he'll pass him.

True, I probably should've worded it differently, this season forward is going to be heaven for qb's peyton did play in a softer era compared to the greats before him but this season was on a whole other level.Crazy Levi wrote:Peyton has benefited by the sissified rules as much as anybody. Carter specifically mentioned that Eli had to be considered better because he's won more championships than his brother. There was no dissenting opinion... the other four (or five?) guys (can't remember who was there now) all nodded or gestured in agreement.dtmfs wrote:Space Bear wrote:"The greatest Manning in the Manning family."

Can you find a pro who says being a great individual player with amazing stats and records is more important then getting a ring? I'd like to read/hear that.
This is very much a lightning rod issue. It's like trying to change someone else's viewpoint about abortion if it's different from yours. We both know we're right and the other guy is a tard.

So according to Carters logic Derek Jeter has to be considered better than Ted Williams because He won rings and Williams never did...in a team sport? Bill Russell must also automatically be considered the greatest NBA player ever because after all he has nearly twice the rings Michael Jordan does. And lets Not forget Charles Haley The NFL's all time greatest player with 5 rings.
Can you find a pro who says being a great individual player with amazing stats and records is more important then getting a ring? I'd like to read/hear that.
"INDIANAPOLIS — Chris Doleman is not one of the four Pro Football Hall of Fame finalists who won a Super Bowl. He doesn't believe that should affect his chances of being elected to the shrine.
Nor does Troy Aikman.
Doleman terrorized quarterbacks and running backs as a defensive end for the Vikings, Falcons and 49ers for 15 seasons. He led the NFL in sacks in 1989 with 21 on his way to 150½ sacks, fourth all-time when he retired.
Unlike Charles Haley, Bill Parcells, Jerome Bettis and Ed DeBartolo Jr. among the 17 finalists who will learn Saturday if they are voted into the hall, Doleman never got to the NFL's biggest stage.
"Yes, it can hurt me and it's unfair, absolutely," Doleman said Friday. "I'd like to think the voters look at this and say, 'Let's take the Super Bowl out of it.' These guys were such great players that if you placed them on that particular team, would it have won the Super Bowl? Can you take a Super Bowl player and put him on a team I played on and is he a difference maker?"
Oddly enough, Mr. All World 5 ring Charles Haley didn't make into the HOF while the ringless Doleman and Curtis Martin did, I guess Cris Carter won't be on the voting commitee anytime soon.

Re: NFL 2011 Thread
Yeah, this number of rings bullshit doesn't automatically make you the better player just coz you have more. That said, stats/records are there to be broken. The game changes making some stats harder to break, but many easier. If the NFL increases the number of regular season games as they've alluded to, then more stats will be broken again.
