There was some great local footage of the Subban family visting the Bruins suite with PK. Neely, Chiarelli and PK were joking uncomfortably.WOLF wrote:It's pretty hilarious that they did that. Did you see the family's reaction? It was priceless.Facedown wrote:That's it, Bruins are finished.

I love it and it just adds more to the rivalry. Not to mention the positional need. Unfortunately we're going to have to wait 3-5 years to see him with the B's.
I need to get a Subban jersey. The only problem is what number to have printed?

I think your Pens did great here Alec. Staal is good, but a bit over rated IMO. To get a high first rounder back, plus Brandon Sutter, and be able to clear cap space is fantastic.
Ray Shero is a shrewd GM.
Especially if he gets Parise and Suter like he is planning on doing.

So you think they have to trade Staal because of the cap, but you think he's getting Parise and Suter?

Re: The official NHL thread
They will both fit under the cap with a little tweaking. Shero didn't get rid of Staal because of the cap, he got rid of him to get something in return when he was going to lose him next year as a free agent. I don't know how or why you think it was a cap issue, when he just offered Staal a deal before he traded him. He probably won't get Suter, but Parise is a strong possibility due to being close to Crosby.NeverSurrender wrote:AliceManson wrote:WOLF wrote:Jordan Staal traded to the 'Canes to play with his brother.

No, they traded him for cap puposes. Doesn't mean it was for right now. They can afford him, but could do nothing else once they did.
Come back in a week and tell me I'm owned when neither of these guys will be in Pitt, while you claimed both would be.
Ridiculous.

Why would they offer him a deal then? Might as well admit that your dumb ass was wrong, and that they didn't trade Stall due to the cap. I didn't say they were going to sign Parise or Suter, I said they were going to try to, BIG DIFFERENCE. I never claimed both would be signed I said "IF". What is with all of the retardation on Sludge this week? You may have just topped it all for the week.

That's why they offered him a 10 year contract. It's called backloading, and although he's a class act, i have a feeling that's why he turned it down.
Regardless, They're not getting Parise and Suter and you came off like a teen with a crush when saying that.

staal turned down 40 million over ten years because:
1) he wanted to play with his brother
2) in pitts he was a number 1-2 center playing on the third line

Re: The official NHL thread
Make no mistake about it,Shero is going to be a player in the free agency market this summer.Lost in all the hulabaloo of the Staal trade(a great trade as far as assets rec'd IMO) was the unloading of Michalek and the soon to be (mark my words*) unloading of Paul Martin. This opens a lot of cap space.Despite the constant Parise talk(bolstered by his friendship with Crosby),I truly believe Suter is the guy Shero has his eye on.They need a guy to play with Letang, and they do need to shore up their defensive game.To top it off,Shero, as Nashville's asst GM, was helpful in getting Suter acclamated/adjusted to the NHL.
Will he get him?- is a different story, however. A lot of teams will be throwing buckets of cash,it should be interesting to see.Shero is shrewd,he'll need to be at his best when competing with (most likely) Ken Holland for Suter's services. But with these moves,at least Shero will be in the running.

I can see them getting one, especially Suter, since we saw the way their defense played against Philly in the playoffs. But both,
I think parise stays in jersey anyways.

Flyers get Luke Schenn for JVR...I'm okay with this. They definitely need the Defensive help.

From yesterday:
The Bruins traded Benoit Pouliot to Tampa Bay for forward Michel Ouellet and a fifth-round pick in Saturday’s draft. With that selection, 131st overall, the Bruins selected center Seth Griffith.

Pouliot has gone from Minny, to Montreal, to Boston, and now to Tampa in 5 years. HE's not the problem through - great attitude.Facedown wrote:From yesterday:

Hate the trade for the Flyers. Yeah they need D, but IMO Schenn is a 1st round bust who's a 4th D-man at best. Maybe being with his brother will rejuvinate him, but his skating sucks.John Simon Ritchie wrote:Flyers get Luke Schenn for JVR...I'm okay with this. They definitely need the Defensive help.
This deal doesn't get made if JVR doesn't have injury issues. If he's healthy, it's a steal for Toronto. Flyers should have got another asset in the deal.

ALMOST ALL. Instead they used every pick to draft d-men.
that has to be a first.

Jeez - Murray is good, but he's not THAT good. It was a weak draft year and there were a lot of good D-men available. Who did they get with their first pick again? He's not that much worse than Murray, I can guarantee you.jizzyjizim wrote:"Many sources have been stating that the New York Islanders had offered EVERY one of their draft picks to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for their 2nd overall pick, to draft Ryan Murray, in which the Blue Jackets clearly declined."

Schenn,defensive help????????????? In the WHL,yes.-As a pro,ummm,not so much.
Schenn has been,IMO,a huge flop.He can't accelerate nor turn like a professional hockey player should. He constantly loses battles for loose pucks. One of the league leaders in hits, yes, but in so doing often takes himself out of the play as well, leading to odd man rushes. There is a chance he can improve, but I wouldn't expect much.
The fact that Burke was willing to take a busted JVR is all we need to know of Schenn's time in T.O.

If you try to trade JVR for Schenn in NHL 2012, the trade won't go through. That's the true test my friends. The computer won't let you do it, so it must be bad.
Also, The notion that the Islanders would have traded Reinhart (essentially) and all their other picks, for Murray, is assinine. It's actually more assinine that the Jackets didn't take the deal.
