i won't watch an inning of the world series.

still shocked the Yankees were outplayed in every way by the rangers.

if not for the Yankees World Series victory last year, this loss would be 1,000 times harder to handle.

So you are not a baseball fan then. How could someone who likes baseball not be intrigued by a team making it's first appearance in the World Series after 50 years? And they are playing against a team that hasn't won a series in almost 60 years. Lincecum versus Lee could be a great matchup, and I think we'll see a lot of interesting strategy early on.

Do you only watch the World Series if NY is playing? I can understand not wanting to watch if you hate one of the teams playing or are sick of seeing the same teams playing (which is what NY vs Philly would have been to a lot of people) but this should be a enjoyable series.
same reason i don't participate in Fantasy Baseball or Football? i don't care to cheer for another player/team other than the Yankees.

Yankee updates from press conference today:

Brian Cashman just announced that the team is not bringing Dave Eiland back next season.

“It has nothing to do with what took place in the playoffs,” Cashman said.

Cashman said the decision is not based on performance. He labeled the reason as “private.”

“It was my decision,” Cashman said.

Andy Pettitte was dealing with leg and back problems through the playoffs.

He felt tightness in the division series but pitched through it. Then he was unable to throw his full bullpen between starts. Had Pettitte been healthy, Girardi said, the ALCS rotation might have been different.

“We thought we had to give him those extra couple of days,” Girardi said.

for all the morons who think the Yankees should have "conceded" the game(s) when cliff lee was starting should be banned from these boards for lack of intelligence.
tell me which MLB team would concede a playoff game due to the opposing starting pitcher? ridiculous!

if not for the Yankees World Series victory last year, this loss would be 1,000 times harder to handle.

edited to add, I didn't see your "die hard" quote, fucking lame, I'm a die hard fan too but i'm glad I got to witness pucketts HR, The 04' Sox comeback, game 7 of the d-backs/yanks, and lots of other great moments because baseball as a whole kicks ass.
Wow, how can you not want to watch this WS? I think it has the potential to be a great series. Dude Your team can't win every year, man up a little bit and take the loss the right way, they were outplayed plain and simple as was my team, Yeah in every series there are those little things you find you hate in the teams that knocks your favs out, for me it was sanchez whining lke a bitch and wilsons antics, but I like Aubrey Huff and alot of other giants players and I really like the rangers, fun team to watch. I'll give the giants this they live up to their nickname, and thats why you should watch the WS, I'm ready for some bottom of the 9th, giants up by 1 and wilson letting a couple guys on having to face kinsler, cruz or hamilton.

I've heard discussions where Girardi won't be back either.
Brian Cashman met with Hal Steinbrenner this morning, and he’ll meet with Joe Girardi’s agent tomorrow. Girardi wants to come back, the Yankees want him back and the negotiations are going to happen quickly.

“It doesn’t mean we’ll have anything to announce tomorrow, but there’s an interest level on both parties to keep moving forward together,” Cashman said. “We’ll let that work its way out. When we have something to discuss publicly, we will. Prior to that, I’m not going to give a debriefing on how my conversation went yesterday. The meetings will start tomorrow. Will it go long? Will it go days? Will it be quick? I can’t tell you.”

Barring some sort of surprise snag in the negotiations, it sounds like a deal is only a matter of time.

“Those discussions will probably take place fairly quickly here,” Girardi said. “I said after we lost on Friday that I love being here. I’ve loved working here. It’s a great work environment, great relationship with the front office and everyone involved, the players, coaches. So i want to be back. I hope it gets done quickly.??”

It hasn't been officially announced yet, but John Farrell is going to be the new GM of the Jays.

So that free's up a pitching coach vacancy in Boston. I know Farrell is respected around the game, but I didn't see what he did with the Sox, if anything.

So I would like to get some new blood in there personally.

Not to mention Machado's first sentence is contradicted by his edit. If he really thinks "baseball as a whole kicks ass", why quit when the series that decides the MLB's overall champion is just starting?!

Yeah, it must suck to dig the game only if one particular team is playing.

Pretty fucking lame if you ask me. Then again, this is Machado we're talking about.

Dammit, I'm still torn! Texas is so fun to watch, (except when they beat the living shit outta my Fish earlier this season) and that lineup is MURDER. But SF are a bunch of scrappy, never-say-die fuckers. At any rate, Bengie Molina STILL gets a ring, regardless who wins!
Fuck sigs.

I agree with that. Bengie here's your ring. My favorite playoff moment so far was when they were broadcasting his HR against the MFY in 2002 before his AB ( where they walked Murphy ). Then his AB......HR. Awesome.

I found another reason to pull for Texas. Lee said if they win they have a better chance at signing him to an extension. What a nice way to say fuck you Cashman than have him not be able to buy the top FA....for once.

Heard a report today saying the giants management has chartered a plane from SFO to Arlington so that their entire organization(including interns) are able to travel for games 3, 4 and 5.
Nice move. I'm sure they are not the first team to do this.

I've always wondered how people with favorite teams from different geographies celebrate when their team wins anything. My fandom is tied to a city, but that is by luck of being born here. Walking down the street after the Blackhawks title gave Chicagoans a sense of comraderie that I can't imagine some rube who loves the Cowboys, but lives in Nebraska, and has never been to Dallas can't/won't ever feel.

I agree, but I guess you can't fault a guy who lives somewhere that doesn't have a franchise for being a fan of a team that's based somewhere else. The front running of being a fan of the two biggest names in sports is what gets me though. He may as well be a Laker fan and complete the trifecta.

Exactly. I can understand someone who lives somewhere without a team who roots for a team based elsewhere. I can also understand someone who relocated rooting for their old team or a person rooting for a team that comes from where their father used to live because they grew up rooting for them. And I get rooting for your old team if they relocated to a different city. I can even understand rooting for a different team in the post season if your team perennially sucks. But I don't get rooting for random teams all over the place. And the Cowboy/Yankee fan who comes from neither city always particularly bothered me. Like you said throw in Lakers and you've got the douchebag trifecta.

here's some background for all the haters here:
i was a fan of these teams since i was a youngster. the reason i chose to become a fan is because both teams were very successful and winnings championships. plus, Dallas was America's team :D
through the 80's neither team was winning anything, but i was still a fan.
i didn't jump ship to become a 49ers fan or some other team. same goes for the Yankees. the 80's were dark times, but i remained a fan.
in the 90's both teams won.
in the last 10 years, only the Yankees have won a championship. Dallas has done nothing but win 1 playoff game.
yet i am still a fan.
give me a little credit here.

It was very common to run into people in the 70's or 90's who liked both teams. Front runner fans. But I have to tell you that in my experience the ones that I knew usually ended up being assholes (You are not).

Yeah I got wierd favs, I was raised in SC, as a kid I was drawn to the dolphins which was normal for the time, but mike schmidt was my fav player so the phils became my team, and when i got interested in Basketball Bird was the man so I've always followed the celtics, three teams all from different cities. When I moved to Iowa I noticed most people were bears, vikings, cubs, twins, and basketball really the only team people gave a fuck about were the bulls when they got good.

That makes total sense. You grew up in a place with no professional teams. Miami was probably the closest pro team or one of them at the time. Same thing with Phillies. And Larry Legend was cool as hell and I could see kids all over identifying with him, especially kids in the suburbs.

I played 3B and pitched as a kid. Schmidt and Brett and Ryan were my favorite players who weren't on the Sox. It was awesome seeing Brett and Schmidt get rings.

Real classy Yankee fans. This is inexcusable. And it echos an experience that a friend of mine from the midwest had when he took his kid there to see a game. I can't believe that there weren't any NY fans there decent enough to tell the idiots to knock it off. It's one thing to heckle opposing players, it's another thing to mess with women and children in the stands. I can't see this happening anywhere else but the Bronx and maybe Philly. real fuckin' classy.

http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/ ... id=5729471

Fans' treatment of Cliff Lee's wife at Yankee Stadium was ugly, but it might not have hurt the Yankees' recruitment of one of the game's top left-handed pitchers.

During the American League Championship Series games in New York between the Yankees and Rangers, fans were extremely rude to Kristen Lee, spitting and throwing beer in her direction and shouting obscenities.

But the treatment apparently did not change how the Lees feel about New York.

"I brush that off as fans being fans. You can't control 50,000 people and what they're going to do," Lee said Tuesday, the day before pitching Game 1 of the World Series for Texas. "There were some people that were spitting off the balcony on the family section and things like that, and that's kind of weak, but what can you do?"

Lee said what happened last week wouldn't have any impact on his offseason decision.

"No, I don't know the guy that did it. It could be anyone. Who knows? Who cares?," Lee said. "They're at home right now."

Lee's agent, Darek Braunecker, told ESPNNewYork.com that Lee's wife still likes New York.

"The story is not an issue to us," he said. "Her experience in New York is certainly a non-issue. She enjoys New York as much as anyone enjoys New York."

Lee helped Texas beat New York in the ALCS in six games. But there has been widespread speculation that the Yankees will make a serious run at signing Lee when he becomes a free agent after the season.

That didn't stop Yankees fans from harassing Lee's wife.

"The fans did not do good things in my heart," Lee's wife, Kristin, told USA Today. "When people are staring at you, and saying horrible things, it's hard not to take it personal."

She was sitting with other Rangers family and friends in the visiting family section at Yankee Stadium during the playoffs.

"Some people get a little alcohol in them and act inappropriate," Cliff Lee said. "There's so many people there you can't control them all. I know it's been made into a big deal, but that's really all it is, just two or three or four people just acting like fools, and 50,000, you can't group them all together. But there's always going to be a couple goofballs in the crowd that think they have a right to do that stuff."

In a text to ESPNNewYork.com, Yankees spokesperson Jason Zillo said that the Yankees are "not commenting."

On the flip side of Kristen Lee's bad experience in New York is her close relationship with CC Sabathia's wife, Amber. They have been close since Sabathia and Cliff Lee played together in Cleveland.

Cliff Lee and Sabathia are friends as well. The Sabathias and Lees already were discussing where the Lees should live when it appeared as if the Yankees were going to make a trade for Lee in July.

The Yankees are expected to make Lee their No. 1 free-agent target. He will likely receive a deal in the five-to-seven year range at $100 million to $150 million. It also could be Lee's final major contract; he turns 33 during next season.

Lee, acquired by Texas from Seattle on July 9, is getting ready to start Game 1 of the World Series for the second year in a row. Last year it was for Philadelphia, which traded him to the Mariners the same day the Phillies acquired Roy Halladay.

This time, Lee will get to pick where he plays.

"He has a chance to win here for a long time," Rangers teammate Jeff Francoeur said Tuesday. "At the end of the day, I think he's going to be between Texas and the Yankees. He'll wind up in one of those places."

The fans' treatment of Lee's wife was first reported by USA Today.

That sucks, but he should probably be ready by ST, if not slightly after.

Can you imagine if Texas wins the WS, and Lee signs an extension there? Sabbathia with the tear, AJ as a set-up man, Petitte pitching like Clemens without juice. That leaves Hughes.

Shit Steinbrenner would probably rise from the dead to fire Cashman. If he did he'd be one of those slow zombies from 'Night Of The Living Dead', not one of those fast fuckers from '28 Days Later'. So Cashman could escape.

Also. It's been reported that Sandy Alderson is the new Mets GM.

The New York Yankees and manager Joe Girardi have reached agreement on a three-year, $9 million contract with incentives that could add another $500,000 for winning the World Series, according to two sources familiar with the negotiations.
