There would need to be more to the deal than that, no? Calgary was rumored to be asking two NHL ready prospects and a high draft pick. Are those two "NHL ready"?Facedown wrote:Jerome Iginla healthy scratch for Flames.

EDIT: When will Habs learn NOT to go toe to toe with the Bruins? Particularly when they played in Pitt the night before. STUPID.

It's not a trade until Bob McKenzie says it's a trade. When he wasn't prepared to say much last night and even went as far as to warn his fellow TSN analysts that it wasn't a forgone conclusion, I knew the Bruins didn't have him.

Re: The official NHL thread
Am I in the Twilight Zone? One minute the Habs are shitting the bed vs the Bruins, and the Bruins are about to steal Iginla from Calgary for nothing. Next thing I know, the Habs win 6-5 in a shootout and Iggy's a Pen. What a fucked up night!
Oh, and Jay Feaster is a crap GM. By holding onto his assets WAY too long, he completely devalued them, and got virtually nothing to help the Flames rebuild. Iginla, Kipper, et all should have been dealt last year, or prior to the season.
Pens are poised for a cup run, and if they don't win, they far from sold the farm. Fred Shero's boy is a pretty shrewd operator himself.

Up 4-2 on the Habs and Mckenzie is retweeting Aaron Ward's confirmation of Iginla to Boston for scrubs. Those were good times.WOLF wrote:That kinda sums up the Bruins night.chungasrevenge wrote:

My beloved Islanders have a chance to move into the 8th spot in the East with a win versus our bully, the Flyers.
Time to take the next step, boys.

According to Chiarelli, the deal was done with Calgary before the Bruins game last night. The players scratched were in the deal. Chiarelli then said things went "silent" which led him to believe something had changed.
Around 11:45 last night, Flames GM called Chiarelli to tell him that because of "players choice", Igilna was going to Pittsburgh instead.

Against The Flyers, at this point, it's very likely.

Re: The official NHL thread
Chiarelli is a whiny bitch. No need to hold a press conference for this. When a player has a no trade clause, there's no deal until said player waives the NTC. Iginla told Jay Feaster he'd rather go to Pittsburgh, implying he wouldn't waive the NTC to go to Boston. So basically the deal couldn't have been done, as Chiarelli says.Facedown wrote:According to Chiarelli, the deal was done with Calgary before the Bruins game last night. Also, Boston's deal included a CONDITIONAL first rounder, while Pittsburgh's 1st rounder had no such strings attached. So Pittsburgh also one-upped Boston. Move on.

Re: The official NHL thread
I think the press conference was for the fans that went to bed last night thinking there was a deal and woke up to find out there wasn't one.
If Iginla had no intention of signing with Boston, he should never have included them on a list he made of teams that he would waive it for.
Also, you can't say that Pittsburgh "one-upped" them when Iginla said he wanted to go to Pittsburgh.
There is a report that the Flames preferred the Bruins offer and that the pick, not positive about this, was NOT conditional.

Re: The official NHL thread
I'm guessing once Pitt acquired Morrow and Murray, it changed Iggy's mind regarding where he wanted to go.
The B's could very well get Iginla for nothing this off-season, as I don't see how the Pens can keep him and stay under the cap - unless he'll play for peanuts.
Soon enough everyone will. Learn exactly what went down. All I know is Feaster seems like an oaf. He surely thought Iggy would waive the NTC and then got surprised to learn he wouldn't.

Exactly. It's not the coach per se, or the team lineup (tho' that defense is weeeeak). It's the archaic way in which they approach the whole game.

I think Jones for the Panthers considering how shocking our defence has been.

Honestly, I don't think there is a team out there that couldn't use Seth Jones on their blueline, but don't the Panthers have Erik Gudbranson coming up? I'm not 100% sure about that and a paring of Huberdeau and Drouin would be pretty scary don't ya think?pieceofme wrote:Um excuse me.jizzyjizim wrote:hoping for Jones/Mackinnon or Droiun? Yeah we do have Erik Gubranson who has been looking promising. He was solid in the playoffs last year against the Devils.jizzyjizim wrote:Honestly, I don't think there is a team out there that couldn't use Seth Jones on their blueline, but don't the Panthers have Erik Gudbranson coming up? We have a load of prospects coming up, but I believe most are forwards so Jones would probably be better than Drouin. Wouldn't complain if we got either of them though.

I believe the Panthers, Oilers and the Avs are the teams with the most and best prospects atm.

Oh and the Ducks have looked solid in the regular season but remember who their coach is. I would back the Blackhawks if they met in the playoffs.
