I would rather guys like Larkin who have borderline numbers get in than have the steroid guys get in. Someone from that era has to get in. Let it be the clean guys who were among the best of their era for most of their career rather than guys who were borderline major leaguers for most of their career who all of a sudden came into spring training looking like Lou Ferrigno and preceded to put up monster numbers for a couple of years.

That sounds good and all in theory, and the Veteran's Commitee has explicity stated they don't want the roid-era guys in ( which l'm in agreeance ). Except the question is almost impossible to answer.SkyDog112046 wrote:I would rather guys like Larkin who have borderline numbers get in than have the steroid guys get in. What about Barry Bonds who before the juicing was one of the greatest of all time clean. Same with Clemens. Or will this be like Pete Rose and always be kept out? If the player admitted the mistake ( Pettite, Arod ) should that be forgiven? This shit makes my head wanna explode.
I'm with the Vets personally, but I will point out no one in the HOF has 500 Homeruns and 500 doubles. The only person in baseball that has done it is
Manny Ramire

So this takes him to the end of the 2014 season and some are basically saying, "Don't be surprised if he gets another renewal then."

Boras reached out to Yankees for his client Edwin Jackson.
The guy had a 1.44 WHIP last year and did not average 1K per inning.
Not sure how much of an upgrade he would be over

After 2007 the reason Boston hasnt advanced in or to the playoffs is Pappelbon, but he is certainly an upgrade over Madsen.Machado wrote:Boras reached out to Yankees for his client Edwin Jackson.

When will Pete Rose be elected to the HOF?
Bud Selig is signed through 2014.
That news is not very good for Pete's situation.

I think Pete's possible future chances will hinge on the Veteran's Commitee and the BBWAA. Remember it wasn't Selig who banned Rose it was A. Bartlett Giammatti.Machado wrote:When will Pete Rose be elected to the HOF?

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
This is an interesting one.
Mariners, Yankees Swap Pineda For Montero
The Mariners needed hitting, the Yankees needed pitching. The two teams addressed each other's needs in a blockbuster trade of young stars, as right-handers Michael Pineda and Jose Campos will go to the Bronx in exchange for catcher/DH Jesus Montero and righty Hector Noesi.
Montero was very nearly a Mariner in July 2010, as he headlined a prospect package the Yankees were ready to send to Seattle for Cliff Lee. The M's, however, pulled out of that trade and ended up dealing Lee to the Rangers. Yankees management was reportedly upset that the Mariners pulled out of the deal at the last minute, but whatever hard feelings existed between the two clubs clearly weren't enough to keep them from doing business 18 months later.
Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com was the first to announce the principles in the trade, with MLB.com's Greg Johns adding Campos and Noesi's involvement. ESPN's Jerry Crasnick first heard of a "significant trade" involving a "young impact hitter" coming to the Mariners earlier today, and Larry Stone of the Seattle Times was the first to cite Pineda and Montero in the deal, as he had heard "rumblings in that direction."

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
I dont like the Pineda-Montero deal. They basically traded a good young ( injury risk ) pitcher for a DH. Two pitchers really. A catcher with no defense translates to +3 wins. Although this fucks LAA, because they now have to face Pineda in the post-season. Jack Z's up to something.

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
Gotta admit, the Yankees rotation was their weak point and they sure have shored it up. I haven't been paying that much attention to the offseason, but does that leave them with a rotation of: Sabathia, Kuroda, Pineda, Nova, and Hughes (or Burnett)? If so, that's not too shabby - particularly with offensive support and guys in the pen to pitch 7, 8, and 9.

Pretty much. Plus while he's only pitched in single A, Campos projects to be a top of the rotation starter. So the MFY are set.WOLF wrote:Gotta admit, the Yankees rotation was their weak point and they sure have shored it up. The Rangers have been meeting with Prince Fielder according to mlb.com.

Pineda struggled against the Red Sox (and the Blue Jays, for that matter). Be interesting to see what adjustments he makes now that he'll be facing them more often.

Pineda is only 22 too, so I think he has the potential to make the adjustments needed. I hope he doesn't obviouslyMurrayFiend wrote:Pineda struggled against the Red Sox (and the Blue Jays, for that matter). Be interesting to see what adjustments he makes now that he'll be facing them more often.

Although I think this frees up NY to go after Prince, since they now have a need for a 1B/DH.

Yeah, I was definitely impressed with what I saw of Pineda and it seems weird to give up a young guy with that level of potential, but what you're saying about Seattle's wealth of pitching in their system rings true... and if Montero's half as great as some of the NYY fans whining on some sites' comments sections think he is, they're getting something back.

The scouts think Pineda is the "second coming" so to speak. The more I think about Seattle's young offensive core it's going to fun to watch them come together. Especially since it seems apparent they're not through making moves.MurrayFiend wrote:Yeah, I was definitely impressed with what I saw of Pineda and it seems weird to give up a young guy with that level of potential, but what you're saying about Seattle's wealth of pitching in their system rings true... and if Montero's half as great as some of the NYY fans whining on some sites' comments sections think he is, they're getting something back.
Pick up a veteran 3B to play with Seager and maybe one year of an Oswalt type and they project to be an 80+ win team. If there's one thing Z has shown it's an ability to think outside the box with pickups and trades.

The trade caught me off guard.WOLF wrote:Gotta admit, the Yankees rotation was their weak point and they sure have shored it up. The Yankees rotation is about 7 deep right now
C.C. Nova, Hughes, Pineda, A.J. Kuroda, Freddy Garcia
Someone has to go. Can't take 7 SP's north and can't have all 7 on the roster
The Kuroda acquisition puts the most fear in me because I don't see how this former NL pitcher can get hitter's in the AL out on a consistent basis. Then again, is he a 10 million dollar long relieve/6th starter???
Montero was hyped as the can't miss Yankees prospect and last year he was almost traded to Seattle for Cliff Lee.
Fast forward 1 season and Montero is Traded for a pitcher about 15 yrs younger, but unproven.
Yankees have plenty of C depth in the minors. None of them have a bat like Montero, but all of them are a major defensive upgrade over Montero.

That trade caught everyone off guard. They say with some work Montero could become a serviceable MLB catcher, unfortunatley Seattle doesn't have the best record at grooming catchers.

A's are finalizing a one year deal with Bartolo Colon for about 2m + goodies.
Joel Zumaya agrees to one year deal with Twins, worth 800K to 1.7m.
Philly agrees to ml contract with Joel Pinero.
Washington gave Gio Gonzalez a 5/42 extension.

Yankees are talking about bringing back Damon as a DH.
Red Sox sign Vicente Padilla to a minor league deal and word is they would have to move payroll if they want to sign Oswalt.

The MFY are also in talks with Anaheim for Trumbo. Supposably it's for Robertson which wpuld thrill me a 280OBP for their best reliever stashed in AAA?

Hmm, I haven't heard anything about this. Interesting. I think the Angels are holding on to Trumbo as insurance in case Morales isn't able to come back.
