And we lost to Buffalo. I wish Florida would stop making every opposition goaltender looking like a Vezina candidate every single game.
1 goal. 43 shots. Lost 3-1. Brutal.

A tale of a dream that became a lie, and how a scam of such epic proportions plagued an iconic NHL franchise and almost went undetected.
Ironically, he still came off looking less like a douche than Mike Milbury.
Loved seeing Gillies and Nystrom interviewed for the show.

Horrible hit, but people are making it worse than it actually was because he's a goon.

Isles gave up too much IMO.Kid-Wicked wrote:thomas vanek for matt moulson.

1.) You need to sign him - if the Isles don't sign Vanek the trade's a disaster.
2.) If you do sign him, Vanek is a level below bona fide superstar. What will he get over and above what Moulson would have produced with the Isles/Tavares? 10-15 points/year, if that? Moulson had great chemistry with Tavares. Giving him, plus two good picks is too much for Vanek IMO.
Look for Miller to be out of Buffalo soon as well.

Yep, I bet the Isles sign him. Like Wolf said, they have to. With the move to Brooklyn and a better team, LI isn't as bad a destination as it once was. Plus many guys like LI once they play there.
Him and JT should be awesome together. Disagree they gave up too much. Isles have plenty of prospects and draft picks, it's time. Will miss Matty MO, class act.

vanek is making 7 million this year. it's gonna cost the team 10 million a year to sign him. and that's gonna piss off tavares. i think it was a bad trade.

Re: The official NHL thread
lol at pissing off Tavares.
The only way to piss him off is to not get him help and the team starts losing like they used to.
I do agree though, if they don't sign him = bad trade. I'm just happy they're trying again.

Re: The official NHL thread
All signs point to Vanek ending up with the Wild. He went to the University of Minnesota and is married to a girl from Minny.
Bold prediction:
- Vanek signs somewhere else (maybe Minny, maybe not)
- Moulson signs someplace else (he could come back to Brooklyn, but why not test the market)
- Sabres at least get a 1st and 2nd for Vanek, while Isles walk away with their dicks in their hand for Moulson

I'd take that bet. I'd say Vanek re-signs with the Isles.WOLF wrote:All signs point to Vanek ending up with the Wild. He went to the University of Minnesota and is married to a girl from Minny.

Nobody thought Viz would sign with them either. Hell, nobody thought Mouslon would re-sign with them after he broke out.

Reports/rumours have it that the 1st round pick comes with conditions. If it turns into a top 10 pick for the Sabres(which it looks like it will),the Islanders will keep it and then give the Sabres their 1st round pick in 2015. In typical Islander fashion, this could backfire on them. Connor David is draft eligible in 2 years and the Sabres could perceivably have 2 picks in the first round of that draft.
As for Vanek to Minnesota, I don't see it,simply because Parise and Suter are chewing a lot of their cap already. Don't know their cap space but can the Wild offer Vanek the cash/term he will surely demand? Factor in Backstrom's problems in net this season and the Wild may also be looking for a goalie more so than a goal scorer.

Re: The official NHL thread
tavares is the best player in the new york area. he should be the highest paid player there. vanek is already making $7,000,000 this year. he's only 29 so he's at his peak. someone is going to offer him more then that. is he worth more then tavares who's making 5.5 million for the next 6 years? i don't think he is. after giving parise $7.5 million would they throw that much at vanek? they have $15 million to sign 7 guys next year. doubt they're giving half that money to him.NeverSurrender wrote:lol at pissing off Tavares.

When did Mike Milbury become the GM of the Avalanche?
Steve Downie traded to Philadelphia for Max Talbot.
There's no bigger Talbot fan than me, but this trade seems odd. The Downie/Reilly/Duchene line was killer. I'm assuming his expiring contract played into this decision, especially with Talbot signed for another 2 years. The Av's are getting a prime PK guy, but Downie's toughness and intangibles will be missed.

My mind went to "Downie is acting up again", and the Avs are nipping it in the bud before it becomes to much of a problem, given what happened with Varlamov yesterday.alecjonsludge wrote:When did Mike Milbury become the GM of the Avalanche?

Downie has issues from his past and seems to wear out his welcome quick.
PS - I'm not judging him, because anyone who knows his story knows he has somewhat of a right to be fucked up.

I thought of that too and also wondered if he wasn't somehow a contributing factor in Semyon Varlamov's behaviour that led to his arrest this morning as well.

Re: The official NHL thread
When Downie was a teenager, playing Midget I think, he and his father were in a car crash on the way to a practice. He watched his father die next to him, and he was left partially deaf due to injuries suffered in the crash.pieceofme wrote:What's the story? You're right, he should be the highet paid, but you're wrong that Vanek will need 10 milion a year to re-sign and the fact JT will be pissed.Kid-Wicked wrote:tavares is the best player in the new york area. he should be the highest paid player there. vanek is already making $7,000,000 this year. he's only 29 so he's at his peak. someone is going to offer him more then that. is he worth more then tavares who's making 5.5 million for the next 6 years? i don't think he is. after giving parise $7.5 million would they throw that much at vanek? they have $15 million to sign 7 guys next year. doubt they're giving half that money to him.NeverSurrender wrote:lol at pissing off Tavares.

Re: The official NHL thread
You are kidding yourself if another team is going to give Vanek 7-mil + once he's UFA. The only reason he got that to begin with was begin the EDM Oilers gave him an offer sheet....so BUF had to match or lose him. 5 years later, he's more than proved he ain't worth 7-mil. Not only is he injury prone, but he's barely a point a game player. Mr. Vanek will surely be taking a salary cut after this season. Bet on it.Kid-Wicked wrote:tavares is the best player in the new york area. he should be the highest paid player there. vanek is already making $7,000,000 this year. he's only 29 so he's at his peak. someone is going to offer him more then that. is he worth more then tavares who's making 5.5 million for the next 6 years? i don't think he is. after giving parise $7.5 million would they throw that much at vanek? they have $15 million to sign 7 guys next year. doubt they're giving half that money to him.NeverSurrender wrote:lol at pissing off Tavares.
