Sting wins and it is the worst match of the night. The final match is up and it is Mick Foley and Devon and AJ Styles vs. Scott Steiner and Booker T and ?.

Kurt Angle vs. Jeff Jarrett in a no DQ match is next.

Excellent grudge match. The intensity in this match was at a completely different level from everythig else on the show. Double juice match. A highlight was Angle doing an Olympic slam off the entrance way through a table although Jarrett took the bump mostly missing the table. Jarrett did an incredible job of selling here and really most of the match. After kicking out of chair shots to the head and escaping their finishes, Angle won with a cradle. Angle Pillmanized the ankle of Jarrett after the match. It appeared they were doing an injury angle with Jarrett here. Jarrett is being taken out on a stretcher.

Sting vs. Rhino is next. Rhino supposedly has a back injury and his head is all bandaged up before the match even started. Even with this angle, Sting was 98% babyface to the crowd which booed Rhino's comeback. Rhino missed a gore and Sting got the pin with the Scorpion death drop. Crowd popped big and Sting played to the crowd after he won.

Mick Foley & A.J. Styles & Devon vs. Scott Steiner & Booker T & Kip James (Dear God) finishes the show. When Booker announced it, you could hear the place groan. Couldn't they have at least called Rick Steiner or someone like that?
They first did a double count out. Jim Cornette announced they were restarting the match but Booker T said he didn't have the authority to do it. Foley said Cornette didn't have the authority but he did, and he made it a hardcore match. They used the usual garbage cans and chairs. High spot was Styles doing a springboard splash on Kip through a table. Finish saw Foley use a double arm DDT on a chair on Steiner for the pin.

It really hurt because you had the remnants of the old WCW/Crockett audience and they reacted to stars but you could tell they didn't even watch the TV as most didn't react to the TNA angles, only the star power of guys from years ago.

They could really use a strong PPV. They've gone a few in a row now where the shows have been awful. They've seemed to go back into coasting phase which is a shame, because they had something that people were interested in with the MEM/Frontline feud, but it's on life support right now. Doesn't help the MEM that two of the guys on the opposing team were more legit main eventers.

Billy Gunn in the Main Event of your PPV? Your show gets negative stars and has to try and fight it's way up from there. X-Division and Jarrett/Angle were standouts.

Main Event was laughable as they knew they were giving people a stinker and tried to make it up to the spot monkey crowd by turning it into a hardcore match. Sorry... not buying it.

Not sure who Rhino blew to get his most recent push, but it sure wasn't someone who could help him out in the ring. With occasional spots here and there, the guy just hasn't been the same since his neck surgery. A shame as he was great in old ECW and his pre-surgery run in WWE. I'm sure he has and I just can't remember right now... but has Sting had a great match since working with Flair and Muta 20 years ago? And NO, his 6-month burial matches of Abyss with styrofoam tombstones don't count!

The Knockouts had replaced the X-Division as the highlights of the card (and that speaks volumes)... like the X-Division it's slowly began to die. Two of the girls in there made Maria look like Lou Thesz.

The other stuff was just kind of there...

I'll give it one and half Meltzer's for Angle/Jarrett and the X-match. Other than that... needed more Snitsky.

It seems every time they try to do a 6 man tag involving one of the Outsiders, it gets fucked up! So, since Nash wasn't there was he scheduled to job tonight?

I know they're saying staph infection, but could he not have told them a little sooner than the day of the PPV?

Old 'Paul E. era' ECW PPV's are still way more entertaining to watch than all of the brand new, live WWE and TNA PPV's... even if you already know the results.

Well, I just read the ECW spoilers... scroll down if you don't want to know what happened (pretty surprising actually):

Jack Swagger beat Matt Hardy and is the new ECW champion. Tommy Dreamer announced that if he doesn't beat Swagger and take the title, he'll retire.

They must really think a lot of this guy to let him win the title this quickly. Personally, I've never even seen the guy wrestle yet since I gave on the show a long time ago. But still, it was a surprise to see that.

Seems Ron Simmons and Sgt. Slaughter are gone. That's pretty shitty of Vinnie Mac. Simmons was more over than some of the current product being shoved down our throats just by showing up once in awhile and saying "DAMN".

Hence the reason he is most likely gone.

As for Slaughter, who cares?

I figured Slaughter would have a job for life. That is VERY surprising. Simmons has been let go before if I remember correctly, but they kept him on a pay per appearance deal to do public relations stuff. He then got a talent deal again when he started popping back up on TV.

Personally, I'd like to see Ron go back to FSU and get a coaching gig.

I don't see anything about Slaughter and Simmons being let go on a few major sites.

Smackdown looks horrible for the next 2 weeks. Here are spoiler links:

No shit.

The H is nowhere near the title at the moment and he still takes up 70% of the show by the looks of it.

Seeings as Simmons and Slaughter are both former world heavyweight champions, I'm sure they'll bring a lot to the Main Event Mafia!

He has, and there are more we don't know about:
While a majority of the WWE cuts on Friday were either made public by the company or through other wrestling media, a few more names that were cut that didn't get announced publicly are now out courtesy of a new report by The Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

The first includes Bob Remus (Sgt. Slaughter) who had been working as a road agent and was expected to have a position for life with the company.

Another includes Ron Simmons who for the last two years had been doing frequent cameos on TV doing his "Damn!" bit. Simmons had been in rehab last year and made his return to TV in November for the 800th episode celebration of Monday Night Raw along with the Slammys show.

Referee Mickie Henson was also cut by WWE joining referees Jimmy Korderas, Mike Posey and Kennan Quinn. Henson's referee career dates back to the territorial days with Championship Wrestling in Florida and later with WCW. He was hired by WWE shortly after the purchase of WCW and had been used ever since. Henson was out of action the last few months with undisclosed health problems and it wasn't known if he was going to make a full-time return.

PWInsider reports that former WWE Tough Enough III contestant Matt Cappotelli was also cut by the company. Cappotelli was working in Ohio Valley Wrestling when he was diagnosed with brain cancer. He underwent successful surgery in May 2007 to have a tumor removed and was hopeful of a return to the ring.

There are said to be several other names that were let go by the company, but none have been confirmed at this time. When they are we will be sure to report on it.

Very interesting...
As we previously reported, HDNet sent Ring of Honor a television proposal on 1/7. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that the potential deal would most likely include a weekly Saturday night time slot on the network. The deal would see HDNet picking up the tab for all production costs, which would mean Ring of Honor would use HDNet cameras. As a result, HDNet would not pay a license fee.

I hope Nero is OK after getting hit with those explosions on SMACKDOWN! tonight.

If anyone cares WWE Magazine has named the 6 participants for the Elimination Chamber in February. Jeff is one of them. Looks like Edge will be winning at the Rumble.

Expect Hardcore Holly to join the Main Event Mafia soon.

The Daily Star in the UK has an interview up with TNA President Dixie Carter. Here are some highlights.

On the upcoming UK tour this week:
"I think this is a special and important market for us. It’s where the fans have embraced our product on an equal level with the competition – and much quicker. On a weekly basis to be above or on par in the ratings is a huge victory for us. It’s an incredible response, and to come back and be greeted by this number of fans is a wonderful accomplishment for us. We are very grateful."

On how business for TNA did in 2008:
"We had a great year – we quadrupled our revenues. To do that in a year when world economies are crashing, well, it’s a testament to our product and our fans. How do you grow it from here? Interaction... allowing the fans that sense of touching the product, touching the talent, being a part of the TNA experience. We have to get out to these countries that have put us on a par with others and show our gratitude."

On how TNA is today compared to many years ago:
"When I look up on that stage and see Booker, Angle, Steiner, Mick Foley, Kevin Nash, I sit and go wow! Two or three years ago I couldn’t have dreamed of it. Combine that with how much we have grown TNA’s own stars and when I go to a show in the UK and Styles gets the biggest ovation of the night. It’s the best feeling."

On the departure of Christian Cage to WWE:
"I’m very disappointed. I like him as a person as well as a talent. It’s interesting, he was the first big name to jump ship to us and he’s been the first to jump back. I wish him all the best."
