Big win for the Fish last night. Horrible start, but great ending. Anibal fans 14 (but doesn't get the win, :? ) LoMo goes yard, and Hanley ends an 0-for-forever freefall with a walkoff single. Weeee!

And Bryce Harper is still a twat.
Fuck sigs.

I hate the Dodgers but Kemp is a beast.
If him and Eithier keep it up, could be a good year for The Blue.

Minnesota's "hitters" are dreadful, but yeah, a no-hitter! Hopefully this is the game that gets the season into gear for the Angels. Got a tough series with the Jays on tap.

i saw the final 3 outs.
i thought 2 of those balls were going off the wall or out of the park.
they said tossing a no-no involves a lot of luck. i think those 2 fly balls in the 9th fall under that category.

Mariano Rivera tears his ACL shagging fly balls. :?

I hate the MFY, but I've always liked Mo Rivera. Feel really bad for him. I wonder if this is the end of the road for him?

In other news, despite leaving 32000 runners LOB, the Marlins manage to sweep the Giants. On to Sandy Eggo. Maybe they'll leave Heath Bell there?

Mo said he also tore his meniscus, along with the torn ACL.

What a blow!
The closer situation for the rest of this season is up in the air.
Robertson could fill in.
Soriano has the experience.
I wonder if this will force a move to insert Hughes into the pen since he
is not doing so well as a starter?

Mo has been shagging ball during BP for years and years. This is nothing new for him. I want to blame the "thick dirt" on the warning track for this injury.
During the game tonight I saw a player "slip" on that dirt. WTF!!!!

That is awful news about Mo. I like anyone else with a soul hate the MFY, but Rivera is the fucking man. What a sad day for baseball.

On a brighter note the only certainty in the MFY bullpen was Rivera. Good luck with that NY.

Impossible to replace Mo in 2012. The ACL alone requires a 9-12 month recovery time.
Robertson, Soriano, Joba(when he returns) and possibly Hughes could be a lot worse out of the pen.
Hughes is a guess for me. I just think his inability to be a good/decent SP means he will be sent to the bullpen where his power arm is needed.

Reports were the Yankees locker room post-game were quiet like it would be after being eliminated from the playoffs.
Unreal that he suffered a major knee injury while shagging fly balls.

Robertson is a beast and I would put him in the closer role. Soriano has the experience, but has allowed a lot of runners on base. IMO Robertson is the future closer anyways, so no time like the present...

Not a Yankees fan, but feel bad for Mo. By all accounts a good guy and THE all time great at his position. You look up closer, his picture should be in the dictionary. Did it over the long term too; no 1-2-3 year wonder.

Everybody on the Yankees last night told the same story about
how Mo would get his running in shagging fly balls during BP.
Mo has been doing that for years and not once did he ever injure himself
catching fly balls.

Total freak accident that is very, very unfortunate because it does not seem fair for a HOF pitcher to end his career on the warning track, in Kansas City, during BP.

Angels have already been shut out six times this season, that's more than 20% of the games they've played so far. 22 consecutive scoreless innings. Pujols has dropped below the Mendoza line and shows no signs of busting out of his "slump." We signed Aybar to an extension and he can't even get on base.

Watching the Angels try to score is like watching me try to score in high school. Yeah, there's something amusing about the futility but ultimately it's pretty sad.

I thought that only happened in The Bronx & Yankee players
that underachieve

Albert was giving the day off today. I guess he could not afford to

Jason Heyward is out with a broken wrist.

This Nationals team is pretty fun to watch. Theyre a little snake-bitten with injuries, but seem to have been making a statement to Philadelphia. Theyre young and set to compete for the coming years. Hammels hit Harper...Harper steals home, Zimmerman nails Hammels. This team is exciting. They have the sack that Boston lacks.

There's rumors that Pujols wishes he was still in St. Louis, and his slump is possibly because he's unhappy.

I would almost guarantee, going yard yesterday or not, that Pujols totally regrets jumping ship from St. Louis to Anaheim. Bet if he could do it over again, he would have taken considerably less money (like under $200,000,000.00) knowing what he knows now IF he could go back and do it all over again to stay in St. Louis. I not only personally feel that way (in other words, nothing more than a guess), but also heard it from someone that said they got it from a DAMN GOOD source that there were "whisperings" that he was saying such things to those close to him.

Thing is, I'm not so sure St. Louis is seriously missing Albert all that much thus far. They seem to be doing just fine w/out him. Don't get me wrong, for the right deal, I'm sure they would have LOVED to have re-signed him, but man, they dodged a MAJOR bullet by NOT giving him that albatross of a contract that the Angels gave him. That deal is going to bite them in the ass and HARD & probably sooner rather than later as his prodution will continue to slip over the years. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying his horrendous start this year is going to last cause I don't think that it will, but eventually, it WILL. Like I said, I think that that "eventually" time will come sooner rather than later. Hope for the Angels and their fans that I'm wrong, but I doubt I will be.

Also think that the Tigers will end up suffering in the long run for that albatross deal they gave to Prince Fielder. Especially as he gets older and his weight most likely becomes more and more of an issue.

Of course, my team is the Cincy Reds and I'm very torn on the deal they gave Votto. I also feel like the last 2 or 3 years of that deal are going to be rough. But of the 3, I would rather have Votto many, many times over if the Reds were going to hand out such a long, expensive contract. Also a bit torn w/the Brandon Phillips contract. I think he got AT LEAST a year too many, likely 2. But, for the next 3 yrs. or so, he should remain one of the best (espc. fielding wise - the guy is a BEAST on defense) 2nd basemen currently out there. They have the young guys like the AWESOME Johnny Cueto as well as the surprisingly good Cozart locked up for cheap for a while. And if Mesoraco comes into full-form, I think he has the potential to be a complete BEAST. Rolen is all but finished offensively. Appears to be able to still get it done w/the best defensively however. Todd Frazier came up from AAA and has done nothing but hit the cover off the ball. So maybe he'll end up spelling Rolen next year and they won't have to go out and try and find/sign someone. Mat Latos is looking a little better, he always has a shitty April, so hopefully his woes are just his usual April struggles. Jay Bruce is looking MUCH better at the plate this year - MUCH more consistent. Years past, Bruce always showed flashes and had periods of excellence, but he has always been very inconsistent. Hopefully this year, he will prove to be much more consistent. And, lastly, but not least, the Reds bullpen is pretty smoking thus far (and that's despite a shitload of bad luck due to injuries). Pay Masden 8 Mill. and what happens? Eh, nothing (literally). Needs TJ surgery, so that's 8 million they might as well have thrown on a campfire somewhere. Nick Massett is still out, no exact timetable on when he'll be returning. Marshall had to assume to closer duty and thus far he has been his usual awesome self (just blowing one thus far). Reds DEF. NEED to get Chapman (who has been fucking BAD-ASS thus far) OUT of that fucking BP and into the starting rotation. But I understand, due to the injuries that they really just can't do that right now. Maybe when Massett returns? Hopefully before we get too deep into the year anyways.

Ok, I'm sure that's more than anyone wanted to bother reading, but I don't post in this thread that often so I tried to "squeeze" it all in to this post.

How about the Baltimore Orioles? Is it just an early season "fluke" or are they for REAL this year? Remember last year, the Pirates actually reached 1st place in the NL central for a very short time, but they hung around for about 70 - 75% of the season as contenders. But, after that blown call at home plate against Atlanta, they went to complete shit and never recovered. And their pitching, which was SO damn good for such a big part of last season, just doesn't look as good this year. Charlie Morton looked AWESOME in the games I watched him pitch last year, but he didn't look very impressive at all yesterday and they even compared his arm angle just before he releases the ball w/his arm angle at the same moment from last season and it's certainly a bit "off" in comparison (his release point is a bit lower this season). But the Orioles, I don't know just how long they'll keep this up, but I'm (though not a fan) rooting for 'em. I'd like to see the O's fans FINALLY have some real success to get behind after the O's sucking ass for so long.

Of course, I think Tampa Bay will hang around and keep it relatively close. They nearly always seem to find a way to do so - absolutely one of the BEST managed teams, despite their low budget it seems year after year. The Red Sox and good ole Bobby V. - yeah, I don't know what to make of them just yet. Win a bunch of games. Lose a bunch of games. Linse, rather, repeat. Personally? I think Bobby V. was a TERRIBLE choice for that job and I don't think the players are all that crazy about him. Get rid of Bobby V. and replace him w/someone whom the players will get behind and give their respect and I think you cure at least SOME of Boston's ill's. I'm not a B.V. hater, hell, I think I'm one of the few who actually enjoyed listening to his color commentary last year on the ESPN Sun. night games (though I like Francona as much, if not even better - that guy just has an awesome attitude) - but I think he has simply "damaged" his mgr./player relationship and I'm not sure if he is going to be able to FULLY get all of the players respect. And that does NOT make for a good situation.

Texas fucking RULE once again (and I'm a pretty big Rangers fan, so I'm enjoying that). Darvish is looking great. The offense has been beastly for the most part. Even if the Angels end up "righting" their ship and make the playoffs, they ain't getting past the Rangers. Forget it. Neither are the Tigers. Hell, I'm not sure ANY team is. They are looking THAT damn good thus far.

Anyone think the A's have ANY chance whatsoever? They're NOT going to catch TX, but possible WC chance? I think Cleveland will flame out again like they did last year. Detroit will take that division.

How about the NL East? Do the 'Nats manage to keep up the great pitching and hold on to 1st place? Or does Philly end up righting their ship and moving on up? Or of course, Atlanta? That division could end up very interesting.

Of course the Central, I think it's going to be the Reds/Cardinals all year long. The Brewers seem cursed w/the injury bug and their pitching is proving to be far less potent thus far. I don't see the Pirates or Cubs doing much of anything. Houston have been surprisingly FAR better than I expected. I think they might be an interesting team to watch throughout the season. Do I think they take 1st/2nd? Hell no. But man, they look SO much more alive than they have in a while. Good for them and their fans. Though they're going to the AL next season anyways....

Arizona have been a tad bit disappointing. A ton of people had them as shoo-ins to take the West again. The Dodgers are looking SHARP thus far. The Giants have looked pretty avg. thus far and they best be praying that Lincecum has a MUCH better rest of the season vs. his April #s. Panda Bear getting hurt is a blow to 'em, he was putting up some pretty damn good #s, espc. on a team that often times struggles offensively. I think the Dodgers will end up taking that division and it will be a race between SF and AZ for 2nd. I predict the Rockies/Padres aren't going to do shit when it's all said and done.

My God! Josh Hamilton smacked 4 homeruns tonight!

He's having a ridiculous season .406/ .458/ .840 14 HR.....2 more than the Padres

He's a FA after this season (age 31). Now with the durability of JD Drew and the decision making skills of Darryl Strawberry, do you resign him if your Texas and for how much? Think of the massive contracts given out recently ( Votto, Fielder, Pujols, Crawford ), and his need for a support system.
