Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
My Reds are starting to do a lot better. Took 2 of 3 from the seemingly shitty Yankees. A split w/the Braves and Mets. Of course, they were almost swept last weekend by the Nats (after a nearly 4 hr. rain delay last Sun., wow, that game ended on an awesome fucking note w/Votto's epic GS - his 3rd HR of the game).
The Cardinals continue their descent w/a lot of injuries and avg. at best pitching as of late after a pretty hot start. Reds now 1/2 game back after the Dodgers swept 'em. Bout time those MFers had a little bit of "bad luck" (not saying I wish injuries on anyone, because I don't, but damn, the Cardinals often-times seem like they're the luckiest fucking team in baseball - one need look no further back than last years WS).
Brewers have sucked worse than I thought they would, while the Cubs have simply been the Cubs. Astros have been a bit better than I thought, Pirates are decent at the very best.
Unless the Cardinals get healthy (and I wouldn't bet on that happening, though at the same time, I wouldn't bet against their fucking bench players becoming Goliaths either - hell, I've learned to NEVER bet against that fucking team) I think the Reds will take the division, even if they stay as lukewarm as they have been for most of the season.
I think the Nats will eventually cool down, I don't see them taking their division. Baltimore is the biggest surprise for me up to this point. They are playing some GREAT baseball. Good for them.
Dodgers might have the best record as of right now, but I still say Texas is the best team. Unless the Angels begin to perform as everyone thought they would going into the season, no one else is going to catch the Rangers in the AL West (& I don't think the Angels are going to either TBH - I think they'll improve a bit, but not nearly enough).
I don't think Cleveland will remain leaders in the AL Central. I think the Tigers will get hot and end up taking that division.
And Boston...wow, what a joke. Sorry Red Sox fans, but they're stinking up the joint this yr. Yankees not a hell of a lot better. I hope the Orioles stay hot as hell and take that division. Both T.Bay and Toronto look pretty good though....espc. T.Bay.
Can't see anyone taking the NL West from the Dodgers this season. Not even if the Diamondbacks start heating up. Hell, even the Giants are 2.5 games in front of the Dbacks and they haven't impressed me either. Of course, the injury bug could end up plaguing L.A., but that's the ONLY way they drop that division.
Phillies not looking too hot either. I wonder what will end up happening with Hamels?

I'm pulling hard for the O's! It's been too long. The Gnats are going to be a pain in the ass all year. Stupid Braves are looking good. Here is video of the play.

Does not look to be life threatening at all.
If anything, Ellis could have suffered a bruised shin or maybe a broken bone in his leg.

Girardi inserted Tex into the 7th spot tonight.
About time Tex was moved down in the order.
I read he has been sick with a bronchial situation since week 1, has seen numerous doctors and has taken enough medication to last a lifetime, but this
is a good move.

Tex has been suffering from this illness since the beginning of the season. That has to factor into his slow start again this year.
Other players in that line-up are also not producing at the plate, with runners in scoring position.
This team needs a wake-up call of some kind.

Seattle's young hitters are getting fun to watch. It just a matter of time until they put together a respectable second place finish to the Rangers.
They even took a game from Texas tonight ( fuck that team is scary

Hey Kill-
Word on the street(at ESPN) is Ortiz had a team meeting earlier this month
and since then the team has been playing a lot better.
Maybe Jeter or ARod or Mo should gather the Yankees in the locker
room and have their own team meeting!!!

I dont' think I've ever seen someone's career end while playing first place like Berkman the other night.Monkey_Julius_Bowaffle_ wrote:

Is the injury to his knee or achilles? Last night ESPN contradicted themselves by 1st stating the injury was to his achilles, will cost him the season and in the same report the injury was said to be the knee.
So which is it??

And, I've heard everything from if indeed it is that he is finished for good.
I've heard that he wants to try one more year if he can get it fixed/rehabbed.
I've heard he wants to go ahead and try to get into broadcasting.
Shit, I've heard more rumors about Lance Berkman the past couple of days then I can count it seems like.
OTOH...impressive outing by Wainwright last night. I know the Padres are a pretty shitty team, but w/the way Wain had been throwing the ball, he looked really good.
Fucking Padres though....dammit....the Reds just keep on kicking ass but now, all of a sudden the damn Cards can't lose either! So we're still 1/2 a game out of 1st.
But, from what I have heard, our (the Reds) schedule begins getting easier while the Cards schedule is getting ready to get more difficult. I have not actually looked for myself, but it prob. won't matter anyways. As fucking lucky as the Cardinals always get, they'll find some guys out of single A ball, call 'em up and they'll be superstars within a few weeks

Fucking Cardinals are the luckiest team in MLB. They can bring in guys whom are getting older than shit and whose careers are a pinky toe away from being DOA and resurrect 'em back into all-stars. Or bring up minor leaguers, scouted to be avg. players at best and once they get that call-up, they become rookie of the year candidates.
If the Red Sox had the "Curse of the Bambino", the St. Louis Cardinals must have the luck of the baseball gods themselves

Who else saw Buster Posey last night resting
about 5 feet in front of the plate
to receive a throw from LF?
The Giants must have really warned the kid that he can never,
ever block the plate again.

ARod hit 2 home runs last night. Hope he tweaked that swing well enough to get hot and carry the Yankees for about a month or so.
Yankees play at Oakland, at Anaheim and at Tigers
9 games in 10 days
Could be a road trip that can get the team going.
I'll take a 6-3 road trip

I read the same "rumor" today but to be honest, I could care less.
I have no say on whether or not the powers that be sell the team.
My concern is with the team and winning games.
Hard to imagine anybody but the Steinbrenner Family owning the team.
Maybe Jeter and ARod have their money all ready to make the purchase

Marlins 1.5 games out of first...beat the 1st place Nats. A win tomorrow, and they're a half game out, then on to Philly this weekend. They've won 20 games this month, broke the franchise record of 19 tonight. Happy Fish Fan!

Marlins are sort of reminding me of the Reds thus far this season. Started off kinda cold but seem to really be kicking the door down to 1st place here in the past month or so.TawnyVonJagger wrote:Marlins 1.5 games out of first...beat the 1st place Nats. That said, I think they're in a tougher division vs. the Reds and I think that if the Braves could ever get healthy, they would be a huge opponent/threat once again. So far, I have honestly not believed in the 'Nats 100% (that they could keep up their hot-streak all season) and I still don't think I feel that way. We'll see where they're at come the All-Star break.
I don't think the Mets have enough ammo pitcher OR offense wise to be a real threat. The Phillies were dealt a HUGE blow losing Halliday for 4 - 6 wks. (and I think it could end up being even longer). My feelings on Miami (much like my feelings towards my Reds) are sorta mixed right now. I will say that Carlos Zambrano has suprised me in pitching as well as he has thus far. And Stanton, that guys bat has been something else here lately.
I still think the best team in baseball is undoubtedly the Rangers.

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
My question is where does Texas put Perez when he returns from the DL? Especially considering how long it's gonna take for Oswalt to get stretched out and his age. Good for him for ending up where wanted to though.Facedown wrote:Rangers sign Oswalt

I was thinking Miami ( no matter how gay the new unis are ) is a hell of a lot better than how they started. My personal feeling was that the NL East was THE Division to watch this season. The DL is cold-hearted bitch though.
As for the Nats, I think they are on the way to being baseball's next Tampa Bay Cinderella story. I don't think they take it this season, but I think it's in the very near future.
If Atlanta and Philly can get healthy it could be a battle for ages watching those 4 battle it out. NYM is still a few out to be a viable Division threat IMO.
I think Tampa takes the AL East.....still.

Yankees lose again at Anaheim. I dislike the stadium with a passion.
Yankees do NOT play well in Anaheim.
After sweeping the A's, Yankees have lost 2 straight and are not playing
so well.
Nova goes tonight. Need to win this game or else the 3 game sweep in Oakland will mean nothing.

Look at how the season ended last year, how close some teams were. Every win and loss counts, but the Oakland A's are the equivolent of a AAA team....beating them does mean nothing.Machado wrote:Yankees lose again at Anaheim. I dislike the stadium with a passion.

I know the A's are terrible, but winning all 3 games was necessary to gain some positive momentum. Losing that series or getting swept would have been a disaster.
