It was an ugly win though. Both Pujols and Hunter were in scoring position when Trumbo flew out.

Who here read about the situation between
Russell Martin and umpire Laz Diaz in Anaheim last night?

“Laz actually hurt my feelings,” Martin said. “The umpire wouldn’t let me throw the ball back to the pitcher. That’s never happened to me before. That’s a good story, right?”

Martin said he and Diaz got into it a little bit early in the game, and from that moment on — even after Martin took a ball to the neck — Diaz wouldn’t let Martin throw new balls back to the pitcher.

“I even told him, because there’s guys on base, I like to keep my arm loose,” Martin said. “Nope. (He said), ‘I’m not letting you throw the ball back.’ That’s pretty strange, to me. … He told me I have to earn the privilege. Now, thinking back, I should have shown him the gold Rawlings sign on my glove. Unbelievable.”

Blue Jays have once again been accused of stealing signs. This time
by the Orioles starter, Jason Hammel

Hammel (6-2) lost for the first time since April 30 at the New York Yankees. He gave up four runs and a season-high nine hits in 6 ? innings, walked two and struck out five.

“When you’re not locating your fastball, you’re going to give up some home runs there,” Hammel said. “But the swings they were taking on the breaking stuff, it was pretty amazing to me. I don’t think you can take swings like that not knowing they’re coming. I don’t know. That’s all I can say.”

The Blue Jays were featured in an ESPN report in August that accused the team of using a man dressed in white in the centre-field seats to relay information to hitters. Weeks earlier, Yankees manager Joe Girardi accused the Blue Jays of stealing signs during a visit to Toronto.

Hammel acknowledged being aware of the prior accusations.

“There’s rumours and things like that,” he said. “I don’t know. I can’t speak on that, but they were taking very big, strong hacks on breaking stuff. It’s something I’ve never seen before.”

Hughes was a big time pitcher today.
1st 9 inning CG as a Yankee. I did not expect that from him at all.
6-3 road trip. Not bad. Every MLB team would take those results.

Yeah, I am VERY surprised at just how big a turn-around that guy has made this year. I don't think he liked much of ANYONE w/the Cubs. Can't say I really blame him for being unhappy playing for THAT team (none of 'em look too fucking happy TBH and haven't for quite some time, they're simply a SHIT team), though I honestly did think he acted like a big fucking spoiled brat "man-child" and should have kept his BS in the clubhouse and not the dugout whenever he would go through one of his little PMS episodes. And going at Derek Lee? NOT fucking cool in my book. I have never heard ANYTHING but good things about Lee as a hard working player and person and Zambrano lost just about any and all respect I ever had for him.

But, it's a new year and a new season and maybe the headcase has finally gotten the correct PMS meds as he has made a VERY impressive turn-around. I don't like the fucker and I doubt I ever will after seeing one too many of his little episodes over the years, but I'll give credit where credit is due. The guy is pitching pretty damn good thus far and he is also one of better hitting pitchers in the NL. He actually takes most of his at bats very seriously instead of going up and not even trying like I see WAY too many NL pitchers do. Kudos to him for pitching over 7 innings through sickness as well (I heard he felt like complete shit with a head cold, etc.). Impressive for a guy his size to beat out a bunt too.

Basically, the Marlins STOLE him (not too many people wanted him TBH and I can't say I blame 'em since he IS a head case, but it has turned out very well for the Marlins - he is now 4-3, has a 2.81 ERA and the player he was traded for, Chris Volstad, started the season out 0-6 for the Cubs and has since been sent down to the minors).

Giancarlo Stanton has been lights out with the stick. (Player of the month for May and well deserved). Hanley has warmed up, which, if he can really get it going, I REALLY like your Marlins chances of coming out on top or at least ending up with a wild-card birth. (One thing I have not paid a lot of attn. to is Miami's BP - how are they?)...

But, Miami ARE in one hell of a competitive division (hard to believe that all 5 teams in the eastern division are above .500) and I'll tell ya what - I don't know if they can sustain it for another 4 months, but the Mets have really looked impressive throughout the year. Nothing flashy, nothing overly dramatic, just good ole well-played baseball. I feel a lot about the Mets as I do the 'Nats. They have both looked really good thus far (the 'Nats even more-so than the Mets IMO and all that REALLY young talent - man, I think they're really going to be something next yr. or DEF. by 2014 as Harper and Strasburg develop further).

The Phillies are going to have some tough decisions to make coming up. I just do NOT see them being able to get through all the injuries this year and getting into the playoffs. Even if guys like Howard and Utley can get back, it's not likely that they'll be knocking the cover off the ball or anything as much rust as they'll have to shake off and get back in the groove of things. Halliday getting injured is a BIG blow for those guys. Hamels has looked pretty darn good, Blanton is so-so as usual. Much like Miami, I'm also not sure about their BP.

Braves have got the injury bug and are 3 - 7 in their last 10. Pitching hasn't looked quite as impressive as I thought it was going to. Even Beachy has had some rough outings as of late.

My prediction for the NL East is the Marlins and 'Nats are going to battle it out the rest of the season and I would not doubt a bit if it doesn't go right down to the last week or maybe even the last day of the season (a la last season in which that last day was one of the greatest days in baseball history....and ppl. say that baseball is BORING  I say it's anything BUT)....

Okay, I shared my thoughts about the NL east, here's how I'm feeling about the rest of the divisions (including the AL divisions)......(and like anyone really gives a fuck what I think  ):

NL Central:

My Reds are in 1st place...had a hiccup last wk. in Pitt, losing 2 of the 3, but took 2 of the 3 in Houston. Sat. was embarrassing even though they got the W. Latos blew an 8-2 lead. IMO, Latos is sorta like Zambrano; he is a fucking headcase. Like Big-Z, he has gotten his mental problems under better control, now if he would only get his pitching under better control. Thus far, the Padres took us to the cleaners on that trade. (and not related to baseball so much, but I heard that that headcase, attn-whore GF of his, Dallas, deleted her precious twitter acct. - long fucking story, but bottom line, she was WAYYY too immature to handle being on twitter seeing as who her husband is). Lineup needs another good LH bat in it, way too RH hitter heavy. Starting pitching is pretty good, BP has been pretty dominant. Aroldis Chapman is a fucking BEAST. Period.

Surprised to see the Pirates in 2nd place trumping the Cards after they got swept last night by the Mets. Much like last yr., I don't see it lasting, then again, who knows. The NLC is certainly not the strongest division in baseball. Cards woes continue. Injury bug finally seems to have really gotten them. Their pitching has been up and down (lately more down) and they just look ragged as of late. As I've said before, I NEVER EVER count them out until their magic # is non-existant, but it's not looking good for 'em for this season. Brewers have been playing a little better lately, the Astros who actually had been playing quite decent have went to the shitter, going 2-8 in their last 10. And the Cubs, 18-35 and 12 games out, they're DONE. Already wanting to have a fire sale. LaHair might be a good pick up for someone.

NLW - the red-hot Dodgers are slumping a bit, of course everyone knows Kemp is hurt again, who knows for how long and how bad it really is? 3 - 7 in their last 10, still holding a 3 game lead on the Giants whose record is the inverse of the Dodgers in their last 10. Dbacks are 8 games back and the Rockies and Pads are not going anywhere this yr. I still say the Dodgers take that division, but I do give the Giants more than a fair chance.

ALE - a lot like the NLE, all teams are above .500 w/Boston and Toronto both only being 3 games out. As bad as it pains me to say it, the Yankees have been playing better lately. The Orioles, whom I have been pulling for yet feeling all season long as though it's "too good to be true" have started slumping, going 2 - 8 in their last 10. Went from top of the division to 1 game back. I agree w/whoever it was that said they see T.Bay taking that division. I would love to see the Orioles take it, but I just have no faith in them over the long haul. Much like the Pirates, it's hard to when they have sucked so bad for so long.

I still don't know what to think about the Red Sox. Still think Valentine was a bad hire and unless they take the division or at least get a wild-card, I think he'll be a one and done. I thought Youkilis should have went out and smashed that fucking piece of shit pitcher in the mouth yesterday for hitting him in the fucking head (90+% sure that it was intentional - forget the pitchers name).

ALC - White Sox have been red hot and lead the divsion by 2.5 (9 - 1 in their last 10), while like I predicted, the Indians have begun to slump (3 - 7). Still surprised that Detroit haven't gotten their shit together and really started making a run (though I still think they will). KC have been playing a little better, but they're not going anywhere this yr. and the Twins once again flat out suck.

ALW - STILL think the Rangers are the best team from top to bottom in baseball this yr. even though they haven't been playing their greatest ball (5 - 5). Still up by 4.5 over the Angels who HAVE been playing much better baseball (8 - 2). I thought they would come along at some point, though I'm still not fully "sold" on them. I'm sure they're hoping like hell that Weaver gets to come off of the DL on the 12th. Seattle and Oakland both suck and neither team is going anywhere (both 9 games out). So basically, this is going to be a 2 team race and that's IF the Angels can keep playing solid baseball. If the Rangers start getting red-hot again, which they very well could, and if the Angels start sucking again, which they also very well could, the ALW might end up not being a "race" whatsoever.

If anyone actually bothered reading my post(s) (yes, I know they're long) do you agree/disagree w/any of my predictions?

The upcoming Yankees schedule is not very easy.
I heard they will be playing teams with a .500 record or better
from now until early July.
That's a long stretch.
Going 6-3 on this last road trip was a success. Especially when the first 6 games were on the West Coast.

Difficult series coming up with the Rays. Then Yankees host the Mets before going on the road to Atlanta and Washington.

Rays will give 'em fits. Mets series could go either way. Atlanta, unless they do a lot of improving/getting healthy might not be so bad. Washington could very well end up sweeping them.

Monkey--

Big Z is said to have found God, thus, his change of attitude. If he's happy, I'm happy. I see him always smiling, he gets along well with his teammates, and he's really good friends with Ozzie. He's a kinder, gentler Carlos. And yeah, the Marlins basically RAPED the Cubbies...but who knew!? I thought we were gonna get Crazy Carlos. Ahhh poor Volstad...he's a good guy. Hated to see him get sent down. He's a local boy so I have a soft spot for him.

Their BP has been better of late. One guy that really stands out is Steve Cishek. Dude is NASTY. Closer Heath Bell had been struggling MIGHTILY...in fact, he blew 3 games that Big Z was in line to win! (And yet, Z didn't kill him...see? He has changed! :D ) But he's getting better. Juan Carlos Oviedo (the pitcher formerly known as Leo Nunez) will be back July 22 (serving an 8 week suspension by MLB...loooong weird story there) and he'll probably be the 7th or 8th inning guy.

The thing I love about this team is their resilience. They have 21 come from behind wins. Some guys are out hurt, some are strugging badly at the plate, but guys always step up and get the job done. It's damn fun to watch! Hanley at 3B is a happy surprise, he's playing extremely well there, looks very comfortable. He and Reyes are BFFs. So much for the rumors about Hanley demanding a trade.

Yeah, the NL East is going to be a dogfight all year, although I don't really see the Mets hanging around. But we'll see. I'm not sure my heart can take it if it comes down to the very last day!

The Leo Nunez/Oviedo thing was something to do with him using the false name, correct?

In one way, I kinda "get it", but in another way, Miami already knew about it, and did not give a shit so I ultimately think they should have let it be. But I guess it's "setting an example" for any players in the future that might consider doing the same? Hell if I know.
