Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
MFYs are RED HOT. 9 straight W's. That is pretty impressive, I don't even care if you have been playing the shittier teams, it's still impressive (not saying the MFYs have been playing weak teams, they have NOT - sweeping the Nats is impressive IMO).
My Reds are on a nice roll right now as well. 6 straight W's (swept the Indians then the Mets). Makes last weekends series vs. the Tigers feel even worse TBH, as we were IN ALL of those games (even the one Verlander pitched) - lost that one by one run. But last Sun. nights game is just inexcusable. NO WAY we should have dropped that game with the lead we built up and as good as our BP has been (but was HORRIBLE that night).
Cardinals lost, so they move back to 5 games back of the Reds, while the Pirates won and are still 4 back. Unless the Reds go to absolute shit, or as I've mentioned the injuries start really stacking up, think there's no way we lose this division.
Phillies still sucking. Miami holding on for dear life to stay @ .500. Dodgers still kicking ass and gained on the Giants. Dbacks below .500 now.
Other than the MFYs, in the AL, the Tigers are coming along. Starting to look more like the team everyone thought they would be going into the season. Texas and the Angels both still winning. Red Sox are now .500 after beating the ultra-shitty Cubs tonight. Love seeing the Orioles still doing well. Hope they make the playoffs either via winning that division or via a wild-card this season.
Still A LOT of baseball to be played and shit can change drastically by the time the seasons over, but there are a handful of teams the I'm feeling REALLY good about as far as getting into the playoffs or at least a wild-card one-game "play-off" (isn't that how they're going to do it this yr.? All the WCs will play one game against another and whoever wins that game goes to the playoffs as the "official" WC?)........

Any winning streak of 6+ is impressive.
Yankees host Atlanta for another 3 game series and then play at Mets
for 3 games over the weekend.
Starting pitching has been carrying the Yankees in June. The starters are getting some distance and limiting the opponents to about 2 runs a per gave during the 9 game streak.

Clemens found Not Guilty on all 6 charges in his perjury trial.

Does Clemens make it to the HOF now?

I think the court of public opinion has labeled Roger as a cheat.
He's in the same room as McGwire, Canseco, Bonds, Palmeiro, Sosa and so on.
Pete Rose deserves a HOF induction before Clemens!

Clemens won't get in. The Veteran's Commitee has stated the roid monkeys won't be inducted. That also means Petitte and ARoid can most likely kiss it goodbye too. They admitted it ( yet Clemens remained cleanMachado wrote:I don't think so.Facedown wrote:Does Clemens make it to the HOF now?

Barry could've been one of the best ever without roids. Those other guys needed roids, he didn't. Clemens didn't either. idiots

Clemens did need them. He was basically finished when Boston didn't re-sign him. Then he met Macnamee and was "in the best shape of his life" in Toronto.NeverSurrender wrote:Barry could've been one of the best ever without roids. Those other guys needed roids, he didn't. If he didn't start juicing he would've more than likely continued his extended DL stays, and Toronto ( as per their handshake agreement ) wouldn't have been able to trade him to the MFY in two years.
He's about as innocent as Ryan Braun.

He didn't need them to be a HOF pitcher, imo. he may have needed them when he got older, but my point is, him and Barry would've been HOFers without Roids.

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread

In baseball’s unwritten code, nothing is as simple as it seems. Rays reliever Joel Peralta, in the judgment of home plate umpire Tim Tschida, cheated. Manager Davey Johnson caught him. Peralta will receive his punishment. That is straightforward morality at work, but in baseball it is not so easy.
Johnson found himself the target of Rays Manager Joe Maddon’s white-hot ire. Maddon suggested it was “cowardly” of Johnson to use what he knew about Peralta from Peralta’s days as a National – that Peralta, like many rule-breaking pitchers, smeared pine tar on his glove so he could grip the ball better. Maddon insinuated that Nationals players would be upset with Johnson for ordering the inspection of Peralta’s glove. Even Johnson himself said he was “hesitant” to check the glove.
What happened here? A player broke a rule, got caught and served his punishment. What is so complicated? What else is at play?
This afternoon, I spoke with a longtime baseball man, who has experience as both a manager and an executive. He laid out the reasoning behind Maddon’s anger and the pitfalls Johnson faced. He requested anonymity so as not to be embroiled in the controversy.
“That’s an interesting dilemma,” the baseball man said. “There are so many little wild cards to be thrown into this. Peralta pitched for the Nationals. I’m sure if he had pine tar on his glove last night, he had pine tar on his glove when he pitched for the Nationals. There’s probably some thought [from the Rays] that, ‘This guy left it all out on the line for the Nationals, busted his [rear end], and now when he’s out there, they call him out on it.’
“The dilemma is this: As a manager, I’m not going to know [about Peralta using pine tar]. How would I know? Somebody has to put that in your ear. Somebody has got to alert you to that. Now, you’re in a tough position. You can say, ‘I’m not going to open that can of worms.’ There’s going to be a facet of your ball club that says, ‘Come on, we’re fighting here, we’re trying to win. You have to say something.’
“There’s going to be another facet of guys who say, who say, ‘Come on, he pitched here. He busted his [rear end] for us.’ There may be guys on the Nationals who are doing the same thing, and they don’t want to get called out. He may have shared his secrets with them.
“It’s like Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. It’s almost like you wish you didn’t know, because you’re going to have to address it. Or not address it and live with the consequences.”
“It’s probably sticking in their craw a little bit,” our baseball man said. “They love the guy. He pitched on short rest for the Nationals. They grew to respect him. Then the plug gets pulled on him.”
The baseball man offered a unique solution. He said Johnson could have gone to either Maddon or Peralta before the game and warned them not to use pine tar during the series. “You say, ‘We’re not going to call you out on his, but make sure you don’t have pine tar on your glove. We can’t let you do it, knowing you’re doing this.’ ”
In the end, our baseball man said he wouldn’t have inspected Peralta’s glove.
“I would not address it,” he said. “If Peralta pitched effectively one night, I might address it the next day. I might go up to Joe and said, ‘Hey Joe, I don’t want to be [a jerk]. But I look like I’m not giving it my all for the ballclub if I don’t address this.’ That’s not an easy conversation to have, either. But it may be easier than what you’re dealing with now.
“It’s a tough call, man. It really is.”

Goddamn it though! Everyone whined that ownership was cheap and wouldn't spend $$$ to get some good players here. Well, he did. NOW WHAT?! They went to having the best May in franchise history to winning FOUR GAMES in June so far. How the fuck does this happen?! They put a $100 million dollar team on the field, I expect to see that! (Wow, money CAN'T buy wins...) We paid a fuckton for these tickets, and I really don't want to waste a 3 hr round trip to watch them jerk off. And as competitive as the NL East has been, they can't afford to fall back any further. It's just depressing and it pisses me off...I expected SO much more from this team. I guess you Cubs fans are pretty much desensitized.wickedsensation wrote:

Blue Jays are coming to town, and I'm not sure if I'm gonna go or not. Attendance will be probably low anyway, thanks to their shitty play and, uh...there will be a parade going on or something...
Whiny rant over. For now.

Fuck sigs.
Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
Former Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling said today that the collapse of his 38 Studios video game company has probably cost him his entire baseball fortune, and he placed part of the blame on Rhode Island officials, including Gov. Lincoln Chafee.
Schilling said during a 90-minute interview on WEEI-FM in Boston that he put more than $50 million of his own money in the company and that he’s had to tell his family that "the money I saved during baseball was probably all gone."
Schilling said he hopes to return to work soon as an analyst for ESPN. He took a leave of absence from the network after 38 Studios filed for bankruptcy protection on June 7. The firm was lured to Providence from Massachusetts in 2010 after Rhode Island offered a $75 million loan guarantee. The state is working to determine how much it’s on the hook for after the company’s collapse.
While he conceded that he "absolutely" was part of the reason the company failed, he said public comments made by Chafee last month questioning the firm’s solvency were harmful as the firm tried — but failed — to raise private capital to stay afloat.
"I think he had an agenda," Schilling said about Chafee.

I cannot believe an athlete invested their money poorly. For every Magic Johnson that becomes a billionaire from endeavors outside their expertise, there's a hundred Antoine Walkers. I will NEVER understand why ANYONE would place all their eggs in one basket. Unbelievable.
(Not really seeing as it actually happens that these fucking athletes wind up broke more often than not - 80% of NFL players w/in 2 or 3 yrs., around 60 - 70% of NBA players within 5 yrs., don't know the exact statistics for baseball, but I'm sure they're inline w/the above, I just don't know the %).
But for me, it IS unbelievable. Plenty of $ to play with (ie...waste), plenty of $ to try "investing" or whatever various method(s) one chooses to try and pull a Magic Johnson type scenario with, and there SHOULD STILL be plenty of $ leftover that you do not TOUCH.
I mean, WTF is so damn hard about that? I literally can not wrap my mind around this shit.

If you have that much $, every investment you make should be a zero-risk one, or close to it. Just like a person close to retirement, who wouldn't be able to work again if things went bad, should invest in no-risk stuff. Hell, with his kind of money you could buy a bond with a modest rate of return and live off of interest for the rest of your life.Monkey_Julius_Bowaffle_ wrote:I will NEVER understand why ANYONE would place all their eggs in one basket. Hell, if you take $20 million, and invest it at a rate of 1% per annum, you're walking away with $200 K per year. Of course a guy like Schilling has a lifestyle above that, but you get my point. It should be IMPOSSIBLE to blow a fortune like that with any kind of common sense.

Face it. Sox won't get a good deal unless the White Sox or some other team fails to recognize how desperate the Red Sox are right about now.

Early and unconfirmed report had them getting RP Matt Thorton.
Sox don't really need any more relief pitchers at the moment but trading some of them could result in nice returns as teams gear up for playoff runs.

So the Sox sent Youk to Chicago for a couple of stiffs. And they have to pay a chunk of his salary. Just another bonehead move by their front office. They really need to clean house except for the kids and start over. I wouldn't mind seeing Anderson, Pedroia, Iglesias, and Middlebrooks in the infield and Ellsbury, Kalish and Ross in the outfield even if it meant tanking this season(which they are going to do anyways). Buh-bye Beckett, Lackey, Crawford, Gonzalez and all the other high-priced guys they overpaid while Theo was still here.
