I will NEVER understand why ANYONE would place all their eggs in one basket. Unbelievable.

(Not really seeing as it actually happens that these fucking athletes wind up broke more often than not - 80% of NFL players w/in 2 or 3 yrs., around 60 - 70% of NBA players within 5 yrs., don't know the exact statistics for baseball, but I'm sure they're inline w/the above, I just don't know the %).

But for me, it IS unbelievable. Plenty of $ to play with (ie...waste), plenty of $ to try "investing" or whatever various method(s) one chooses to try and pull a Magic Johnson type scenario with, and there SHOULD STILL be plenty of $ leftover that you do not TOUCH.

I mean, WTF is so damn hard about that? I literally can not wrap my mind around this shit.

If you have that much $, every investment you make should be a zero-risk one, or close to it. Just like a person close to retirement, who wouldn't be able to work again if things went bad, should invest in no-risk stuff. Hell, with his kind of money you could buy a bond with a modest rate of return and live off of interest for the rest of your life.

Hell, if you take $20 million, and invest it at a rate of 1% per annum, you're walking away with $200 K per year. Of course a guy like Schilling has a lifestyle above that, but you get my point. It should be IMPOSSIBLE to blow a fortune like that with any kind of common sense.

Exactly what I would do if I had a ton of money. Just a simple investment, live off of my interest. Of course, if I had a TON of $, I would blow plenty of it no doubt, but there would be a set amount that would net me plenty enough to live on for the rest of my life that I wouldn't touch.

I don't think they were desperate ( look at the returns ). They had no where to play him and he's unhappy being a backup. Since Youks has a rep of being a cancer he had to go.

So Youk is an asshole (essentially)? I've never heard that. Of course, being a Reds fan, there has been talk since last year of the Reds getting Youk so he can "come home" (I'm certainly NOT for that - we already have our own Youk and his last name is Rolen - I'm not sure Youk would be an upgrade at this point at all - though I've only heard the best of things about Rolen, NEVER that he was a "cancer"). And I have only heard good things about Youk. I didn't know he had the "cancer" rep.

Reds manager Dusty Baker made sure that closer Aroldis Chapman won't be doing any more somersaults after finishing a game.

Chapman did a pair of forward rolls after striking out Martin Maldonado to complete a 4-3 win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday night. Chapman has been struggling lately, and celebrated with somersaults toward home plate.

Baker talked to Chapman about it and said on Wednesday that it will never happen again.

Baker understood that Chapman was happy about getting the save after giving up a game-losing homer his last time out. But he says Chapman needs to express his happiness in another way.

The Brewers were surprised by Chapman's celebration. Baker played with Brewers manager Ron Roenicke for three years on the Dodgers, so no problems are expected.

A fan at a Tampa Bay Rays baseball game was hit by a falling bullet.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, 54-year-old Charles Sweatt felt something hit his leg while he was sitting in the domed Tropicana Field on June 16 for the game against the Miami Marlins. He first thought it was a foul ball but a fan sitting near the Parker police chief found a bullet.

“No one really knows where that bullet came from,” Bill Proffitt, St. Petersburg police spokesman, said to the paper. “It was a falling bullet. That’s what it looks like.”

The bullet only left a bruise on Sweatt’s leg and did not pierce his skin.

Authorities tell the Times that the bullet fell from the sky and that it could have been shot from miles away when it went through the dome’s roof. Fans are prohibited from entering Tropicana Field with guns.

I doubt it on Soriano. Garza said he'd pitch on the moon. Dempster loves the team so much he'd do anything to help it out.

The two players I keep hearing about that are most likely to be traded, and traded before anyone else, are Dempster and Marmol.

Garza will likely go as well, but for him I think they'll wait as long as they can, right up until the deadline, to maximize their return.

I hear Soto's name a lot but unless he can turn things around, his value isn't too good. Bruce Levine from ESPN Chicago said something about teams inquiring, but not getting good enough offers. Epstein & Co. are hoping that he'll at least show some flashes, because when he's healthy he has had his moments, and a relatively young catcher with some pop will attract suitors.

To move Soriano they'd have to eat nearly all of his contract, and wouldn't get a good ("B-level") prospect in return. I think unless they can get a good prospect, they'll keep him for this year, as he does provide some protection in the line-up...

The only way the move Soriano is if a decent A/L team loses their DH for the season. Nearly all of his stats have come in interleague play so hopefully there's a GM out there that's out of town stupid enough to take a chance on him.

No one is going to take Marmol because he's bad and owed like $14 million next season.

Rapada has an easy force at 2nd base and possibly a DP with the Sox catcher running to 1st.
Instead Rapada threw the ball into CF and the next hitter smacked the HR
to left for the lead.
