Look up AJ Pierzynski 's response to being told Ron Washington is sorry he couldn't add him to the AL roster.

Dontrelle Willis retires from baseball at the age of 30, and I am heartbroken.
I am thankful he played his best years for the Marlins. ROY, 2005 Cy Young runner up, and a World Series Champion. Just an AMAZING guy, a total sweetheart with a million watt smile. It's a damn shame he never got his game back.
Best of luck, D-Train. You will always be my favorite Marlin. Still a fan favorite to this day.

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
From MLB.com
DENVER -- Former Padres pitcher Jake Peavy, now with the White Sox, has announced he will contribute $100 for every strikeout in every Major League Baseball game on Saturday towards pancreatic cancer research, which killed his friend and mentor, Darrel Akerfelds.
Akerfelds lost his 19-month battle with pancreatic cancer last Sunday.
"I do hope there are a lot of strikeouts in baseball today," said Peavy, who started on Saturday against the New York Yankees.
Peavy previously raised more than $52,000 to aid pancreatic cancer research, in Akerfelds' honor.
"Ak knew what the percentages were and he just kept fighting with the thought that today could be the day a cure is found," Peavy said in a statement. "He battled with so much courage and heart, and I will continue to fight until there is an end to all cancer."
There were 241 K that day so he gave $24K that day on top of the $52K he already gave.

He's still healthy physically (or appears to be) and 30 is too young to just up and retire (unless that is REALLY what he wants to do).TawnyVonJagger wrote:Dontrelle Willis retires from baseball at the age of 30, and I am heartbroken.I am thankful he played his best years for the Marlins. My advice would be fore him to possibly try a Rick Ankiel and learn a position because that dude (D-Train) has a damn good bat for a pitcher, much like Ankiel when he completely lost his ability to pitch.
Maybe he simply can not stand playing minor league ball? I know it's a shitload different trying to go back to playing in the shitty ML's after you have been spoiled so long by all the percs of playing the majors, but I really think D-Train could have a decent chance at pulling something like that off. Hell, even maybe become a DH for some American League squad.
I too have a soft-spot for the D-Train as he pitched last yr. for my Reds and there was just something about the guy, you just couldn't help but like him.

Yankees can't get a win at The Trop. Is that 9 consecutive losses
now?
I knew I hated that place for very good reasons.

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
I too have thought he could play another position. I think he'd make a fine outfielder, the guy has some speed for his size. And he can definitely hit. I wonder if he ever considered that. I think his decline really got in his head though, and he just couldn't fix it. Doesn't help a guy's confidence that he keeps getting bounced from team to team, either.Monkey_Julius_Bowaffle_ wrote:He's still healthy physically (or appears to be) and 30 is too young to just up and retire (unless that is REALLY what he wants to do).TawnyVonJagger wrote:Dontrelle Willis retires from baseball at the age of 30, and I am heartbroken.I am thankful he played his best years for the Marlins. I did keep an eye on his outings as a Red last year, though...he really didn't do that bad! Several games he left with the lead, only to have the pen blow it. Or he didn't get the run support. It's just not fair sometimes.

Monkey, I don't know if you had the opportunity to meet him, but he was an absolute sweetheart, and so humble. And HILARIOUS! I got some video of him trying to make out with Miguel Olivo...

4 games this weekend in 3 days.
I have a feeling both team will burn through the bullpens and a lot of arms will need ice after this series concludes.
Both team are fortunate the all-star break arrives on Monday.
McDonald might be used for this weekend and that's about it.
Yankees plan to carry an extra position player(McDonald) because the Sox plan to start 3 lefties in 4 games.
How many total hours will these 4 games take to be played?
My guess is approx 18

Both Lackey and Crawford have done more damage to themselves trying to play through their injuries, and live up to their contracts. Both have been complete disasters.Facedown wrote:Pedroia on the 15 day DL and now Crawfords rehab has been shut down as a result of a groin injury.

I hope the Cubs continue their eternity of suck. That way people will truly know how insanely overated Theo Epstein was. He didn't build a World Series championship team ( it was already there ) he destroyed it.

Mother of Fuck.
Giancarlo Stanton has to have knee surgery in the next couple of days, knocking him out of the Derby and ASG. Oh yeah, he'll miss 4-6 weeks with the Marlins. HUGE loss.

Are you looking forward to game 4 tomorrow night on ESPN?
Nova vs Lester
I would not be surprised if the game was very low scoring. Especially after playing 3 games in 2 days to begin the series.
Splitting the DH is fine for the Yankees. Especially after taking
game 1.

Lester pitched really well his last time up ( kinda like an actual #1 ), so maybe he's "turned the corner." Still Epstein's team is on pace to finish last.Machado wrote:Kill-

There bullpen and players can all rest for the 4 day break to recover
from the grueling games that lasted 3 1/2 hours and more.

Bobby V loves to be the center of attention. The man is his biggest fan. Bobby V should be embarrassed he continues to discuss the situation.
Youk was traded. No longer a member of the Red Sux. Shouldn't Bobby keep his mouth shut and move on already?
Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine placed the onus for his strained relationship with Kevin Youkilis on the former Boston infielder Sunday morning.
"I think the comment I made early, he made a big issue out of, and I don't think he ever wanted to get over it," Valentine said in response to a question about Youkilis, who will return to Fenway Park on Monday as a member of the Chicago White Sox, the team to which he was traded June 24.
Valentine was alluding to a comment he made to WHDH-TV's Joe Amorosino on April 15.
"I don't think he's as physically or emotionally into the game as he has been in the past for some reason," Valentine told Amorosino.

Is Zack Greinke on his way out of Milwaukee? I'm just speculating, I know there were rumblings about the Angels trying to trade for him last week. Now today they're saying his start for Wednesday is being pushed back so that he can "recharge his batteries":

There always seems to be rumblings about Greinke. Unfortunately he has severe Social Anxiety Disorder and depression issues, so the teams he can be traded to is limited. I know NY and Boston are on his no-trade list, I would assume Anaheim too.Machado wrote:Greinke started 3 consecutive games for the Brewers recently
