Someone said on sports radio here today that anyone claiming him would have to pay at least 95mil.

It's gets better?

The Cliff Lee situation blows my mind. When he finally became a good pitcher the Hardball Times 2009 wrote a piece about it. I bet he regrets leaving Texas.

The deadline passed at 1 P.M. today to work out a deal, and obviously Lee's pitching for Philly right now (and has only given up three home runs this afternoon), so... yeah. Not the first time people have gone all OMG WAFERZ!1 over something like this.

Edited because you edited, and yes, of course that's what I was referencing. Vin Scully is a stone-cold motherfucking treasure.

i thought i had already posted that here, but it was another board.

He was voted by Dodgers fans as the most important Dodger. Over every player and Tommy Lasorda.

I liked Matt Kemp's line about Scully: "He knows things about me that I don't even know."

Scully's view of the game was always wider than what was happening on the field in front of him. In a 1957 game in Ebbets Field, an odd series of game-related events required the Dodgers to use their third-string catcher, Joe Pignatano, in the middle of the game. Scully knew that Pignatano's wife had recently had a baby and wasn't at the game and might not be listening to the broadcast. Not wanting her to miss her husband's major league debut behind the plate, he suggested that any listeners who might know the Pignatano family should pick up the phone and alert them.[

Vin made a weird conversation about twitter fun and interesting. Love that guy. He's the last of a breed. Harwell, Caray and Scully. The trinity of baseball awesome.

Scully has called:

The first Dodgers series win in 1955.
He called Sandy Koufax's perfect game.
Dwight Clark's "The catch.
Bill Buckner's error
and Kirk Gibson's HR.

That's just off the top of my head.

I'm pretty sure he called Ozzie Smith's left handed homer against Niedenfeur in the 85 NLCS.

Yep....
Teaming with Joe Garagiola for NBC telecasts (with the exception of 1989, when he was paired with Tom Seaver), Scully was on hand for several key moments in baseball history: Fred Lynn hitting the first grand slam in All-Star Game history (1983); the 1984 Detroit Tigers winning the World Series; Ozzie Smith's game-winning home run in Game 5 of the 1985 National League Championship Series; the sixth game of the 1986 World Series; the 1987 All-Star Game in Oakland, which was deadlocked at 0–0 before Tim Raines broke up the scoreless tie with a triple in the top of the 13th inning; the first official night game in the history of Chicago's Wrigley Field (August 9, 1988); Kirk Gibson's game-winning home run in Game 1 of the 1988 World Series; and chatting with Ronald Reagan (who said to Scully, "I've been out of work for six months and maybe there's a future here.") in the booth during the 1989 All-Star Game in Anaheim.
On Saturday, June 3, 1989, Scully was doing the play-by-play for the NBC Game of the Week in St. Louis, where the Cardinals beat the Chicago Cubs in 10 innings. Meanwhile, the Dodgers were playing a series in Houston where Scully flew to be on hand to call the Sunday game of the series. However, the Saturday night game between the teams was going into extra innings when Scully arrived in town, so he went to the Astrodome instead of his hotel. He picked up the play-by-play, helping to relieve the other Dodger announcers, who were doing both television and radio, and broadcast the final 13 innings (after already calling 10 innings in St. Louis), as the game went 22 innings. He broadcast 23 innings in one day in two different cities.

For some reason.

Unloading them last year was fucking brutal. This season has been easier but I feel like it's going to be tough with the AA team they're putting on the field now.

Brett Jackson looked horrible last night. You can't have four really bad strikeouts from at leadoff.
He's like the Liberace of bass & pot.
