In January, Steve Young will collect a one million dollar pay check from a 30 year old contract with The USFL’s LA Express and Thanks To Donald Trump.
Fresh out of BYU, Young bypassed the NFL to sign with the new United States Football League, which you most likely know. The deal? About $40 million over five years from the Los Angeles Express: the largest sports contract in history to that point.

http://www.sportsgrid.com/nfl/steve-you ... ald-trump/
In order to make this contract work with the fledgling team, Steve agreed to a rather unorthodox deal. After his bonus, Steve would earn just $200,000 in year one, $280,000 in year two, $330,000 in year four and $400,000 in year five. The remaining $30 million would be deferred over 37 years starting when Steve turned 28 and ending when he was 65 in the year 2027. The contract was backloaded, which meant that the payments would escalate to $1 million per year in 2014, then $2.4 million and eventually topping out at $3.173 million in the contract’s final years. Furthermore, Steve signed a $100,000 a year endorsement deal with a Utah-based bank called State Savings Loan Association, which also happened to be owned by J. William Oldenburg.

Just to be safe, Steve’s agent [Leigh Steinberg] insisted that the contract be insured just like any other annuity that you would purchase from a bank. That meant Steve’s deferred $30 million was covered “in case the team or the league folds”. This final deal point would prove very wise.
I can't recall ever hearing anything in regards to his parents financial status but I do know that he is the great great great grandson of Brigham Young, the college he also happened to attend so I would think he probably had a very priviledged upbringing to begin with.

What would make the story you posted even better would be if Trump had to pay his salary.

The USFL wasn't all that bad until dumbass Trump ruined the league by trying to go head to head with the NFL.

ESPN did one of their "30 by 30" documentaries on the league that was real good and even after all these years had passed Trump still wouldn't admit to fucking up.

He's such a prick I don't see how anybody could like the guy.

Steve Young is gonna make more money this year than Colin Kaepernick.

And yet they are still looking to bank around $700 million when and if they sell TNF to another network (NBCSN, FOXS1, TNT, etc.) And they somehow want to still have their own package. I'm guessing half the season on NFLN and the other half (plus Saturdays nights and a wild card) for sale to the highest bidding network starting in 2015. It was in all the newspapers yesterday...

I always thought that deal was the most brilliant in the history of professional sports. Also always admired the way that mormon played football!!

Yet they still have tax exempt status! Doesn't the Directtv deal expire around the same time. Considering how successful Sunday ticket has been I can imagine them keeping internet rights out of any deal next time, so they can make even more profit.

Young didn't cash his first few checks from the 49ers because he didn't feel he'd earned the money after being traded from Tampa. He just let them all pile up on his dresser. I recall hearing an interview with his roommate when he first moved to SF that was looking for something in Young' room and found a huge pile of very large checks.

Yeah, that fake by Stafford was great! That was all him, his own team had no idea he was going to reach over the top.

The NFL exploits tax loopholes that makes them tax exempt because they distribute all revenue back to the teams.

Ok so I'm trying to figure out the right way I'm supposed to respond to this sunday's games without upsetting Bludgeon who has accused me of disappearing, or not disappearing, or appearing too much or some shit when the Skins win or lose.

I'm not really sure what his point is or what will make him happy.

So here goes-

Yes it sucks the Redskins lost. I am not puffing my chest as it blows. THey HAD an awesome game plan and were up 14 fucking points, and for some reason, Kyle S stops calling runs and just starts throwing. It's mind-blowing - things were goin so well. So what the fuck? Abandon the fun?

Makes sense.

RG3 looks bad. His accuracy sucks, he has no field awareness, and he's staring down receivers. But at least he seems healthy. Or something.

Still, I'm THRILLED the shitty ass Cowboys lost in embarrassing and humiliating fashion. The Skins, and the Giants for that matter, are still only 2 games out. Ridiculous, I know, but not ready to give up on the season yet.

I also didn't exactly think the Skins would win this one, and since every single team in the NFC East lost to them, it's kind of a wash. Still...man I was starting to dream in the 3rd quarter.

Ok, so how did I do? Please send me notes so I can be a better poster in the future.

Now the Lions head into a bye week, which gives Nick Fairley more time to hit the buffet. Maybe someone should tell him, if he lost some weight he may not end up have to go to the sideline after every big play he makes.

As a fan this is the most disappointing win this year. Johnson and Bush may have broken personal records for botched plays. I almost expect the other no name players to fumble the ball or have a catchable pass intercepted at least once a game, but not those two.

I'm sure there are plenty of casual Lions fans who are only now learning the Lions won after turning off the game with a minute left. In the previous games this year when the Lions were in that situation the play calling has looked like Linehan randomly picked a play from a hat.

On a completely different game. When Carson Palmer can beat you by 14 points it's time to start thinking about your career path.

The Steelers probably love the fact that they are the only team with 1 win or less that doesn't need a QB this instant.

Does ANYONE know who is starting for the Rams this week! I wouldn't be surprised to turn on the television and see Tebow out there.

Steelers have 2 wins, and they will be needing a QB. This season or next will be the last of Roethlisberger in black and gold.

FOXBORO (CBS) — It turns out football fans weren’t the only ones interested in Sunday’s game between the Patriots and the Dolphins at Gillette Stadium.

The Massachusetts State Police were apparently anxious to see Dolphins center Mike Pouncey.

After the game was over, Sports Illustrated took a photo of the state police serving Pouncey with a subpoena outside the visitors’ locker room.

The magazine reports troopers told Pouncey: “It’s about a grand jury investigation … make sure you arrive.”

SI is reporting the subpoena is related to the Aaron Hernandez murder case investigation.

Pouncey is a close friend of Hernandez and the pair were teammates at the University of Florida.

Hernandez, a former star tight end with the Patriots, has pleaded not guilty to murder in the killing of Odin Lloyd.

The Dorchester man was shot to death earlier this year.

There has been no comment from Pouncey or the Dolphins.

Oops didn't mean to insult the Steelers win loss record. I'm just assuming the way they are playing they must have far bigger needs than a QB at this point.

Normally John I would give the week 10 game to the Bears, but with Josh McCown starting this should be a win for the Lions. Then again this the same Lions who made Matt Flynn look like a good starting option for two teams.

I was diggin that by Witten and Bryant. Get a little fire going. Shake shit up in soulless, play with no passion Cowboys land.. And, Ware, sit the fuck down and let the actual "players" do the jawing.

Bryant, though, a dumbass thinking he is even half as good as CJ..

Wait,, Bryant actually is,, unless CJ is playing against Dallas's sorry ass defense.. 329 yards? For real? Unreal..

Well, that one stung a bit.. Hahaha.. Complete and absolute fucking choke AGAIN by the Cowboys. It is just comical..

My bro and were calling the QB dive by Stafford the whole time.. That was epic.. What a great call. Congrats Lions fans..

See, with a real team that is given 4 turnovers in a game, that game wouldn't even be close. But, oh no, not with the Cowboys.. Fucking pathetic this team is..

And, still, even after this debacle.. I read in the forums I go to about how the Cowboys can still win the division and get in the wildcard.. Hahhaha,,, Fucking Cowboystards...

Why? Why would any Cowboys fan want THIS trainwreck to be one and done in the playoffs? Just worsens the draft pick.

2-5 Skins , Levi, suck on it bitch.. Nothing else needs to be said about it.. Back in the cellar where they belong.

I just don't understand why he even opened his mouth up in the first place. It's ridiculous.. CJ is and has been a great WR for years.

Why Bryant falls into that trap or whatever and opens his mouth is stupid.
