The Spurs could stomach losing their season finale Wednesday night. Losing Manu Ginobili? Now that could be a problem. In an untimely accident, Ginobili suffered a hyperextended right elbow during the first quarter of the Spurs’ 106-103 season-ending loss at Phoenix, casting in doubt his availability for the start of the Western Conference playoffs against Memphis this weekend. Forget ceding control of the NBA’s top overall record to Chicago. There was only one way the Spurs’ season finale could have ended in catastrophe, and it happened just 2:14 into the game. Ginobili was coming across a Tim Duncan pick, with Suns forward Grant Hill trailing, when he appeared to get his arm pinned between his teammate and his opponent, bending the elbow backward before tumbling to the court in evident discomfort. X-rays taken at US Airways Center were negative. Ginobili is scheduled for an MRI today, at which point the Spurs will have a better feel for a timetable."

The 2-3-2 format in the Finals takes away any real home court advantage in my opinion. Stealing a game in the first 2 and having 3 at home is fucking huge. I think.

Ginobili

Why did they rest him vs the Lakers in a game that had meaning (for number 1 in the NBA vs Chicago) and then play him vs the shit-eating Suns (in a worthless regular season ending time waster)?

Now that is a fucking classic 'coach of the year' mistake.

Everyone who has been repeatedly calling Popazit the 'coach of the year' is a fucking DUMBASS.

I agree with that.

Last year the LAKE SHOW would have taken 1 of 2 in Shittown and then won 3 straight at the fucking Stapler.

Can't figure out why Phil Jackson wants to retire (read: get the fuck out of the run by assholes NBA ASAP....), can you?

Lakers, Jackson fined $75,000 each

Posted Apr 14 2011 4:20PM

NEW YORK (AP) -- A person familiar with the decision says the Los Angeles Lakers and Phil Jackson each have been fined $75,000 for comments the coach made about collective bargaining.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity Thursday because the league will not announce the fines.

The two fines come a day after the league fined Lakers star Kobe Bryant $100,000 for using a derogatory gay term in frustration over a referee's call.

I wonder what the fine "FUCK YOU DAVID STERN, YOU FUCKING SELF-STIRRED DOUCHE BARREL" would be?

NBA fines Lakers, Jackson $75K for coach's lockout comments

The NBA appears to have found its most effective revenue-sharing model.

And so long as the Lakers continue with their perceived missteps, the league's most successful franchise will just keep sharing the wealth.

A league source confirmed that Phil Jackson has been fined $75,000 and the Lakers fined a separate $75,000 for the coach's recent lockout-related statements. This comes one day after Kobe Bryant was assessed a $100,000 fine for aiming a homosexual slur at an official during the Lakers' game against San Antonio on Tuesday.

Jackson, who had a fireside chat of sorts with the team's beat reporters at hotel in Portland on April 7, spoke of the likely lockout and how it impacted his decision to retire after this season.

"It was really about the fact that there's going to be a lockout," Jackson said. "It's the perfect time to help the organization cover a gap if there's a lockout. My staff, all those guys who work with me. All those things played into it. I felt like an obligation.

"Who knows what the NBA is going to look like next year?" It's going to take on a whole different proportion. How long is it going to last? I think there are some people who are pretty convinced there's not going to be a year next year."

The league clearly didn't take kindly to the public assumption that there would be a work stoppage, especially considering the labor negotiations between the owners and players are approaching a critical stage with the collective bargaining agreement set to expire on June 30.
The story was first reported by ESPN.com.

Odom is the NBA 6th man of the Year 2010/2011

Lamar Odom, At Last
April 19, 2011 · 8:32PM

LOS ANGELES – In both accurate assessment and understatement, Lamar Odom said the individual recognition, any individual recognition, has been long in coming. Correct. It has been a long time. As in forever.

Until Tuesday, when the Lakers forward was announced as the landslide winner of Sixth Man of the Year, one of the league’s most versatile, unique unusual and most skilled players had never been singled out for official praise. Through all the important roles on very successful teams, Odom had never won an award or made an All-Star team.

So the honor had special significance even for someone who has reached the ultimate heights of championships, the last two seasons with the Lakers and in summer 2010 with Team USA at the world championships. Odom did not take being named the top reserve for granted. If anything, he was deeply touched by the moment, choking up with emotion in his acceptance speech at a hotel ballroom in Los Angeles as he appeared to reference family members he has lost through the years, including an infant son.

This is no ordinary player, and this was no ordinary trophy presentation.

“It’s been a long time coming,” Odom said. “I just kept at it, you know what I’m saying. I’ve learned so much from the dudes in my locker room, Derek (Fisher) and Kobe (Bryant). At the end of the day, I’m blessed. Just being around you guys, playing with so many great kinds of players. Pau (Gasol) and Shannon (Brown). I’m looking at ya’ll. You’re my boys, man. There’s a couple people that I wish that were here to see it, you know.”

He had to stop.

“Basketball has given me everything I love,” he said a few minutes later, asked to expand on the wave of emotions. “It’s taken me so many different places, brought me across so many different people, that I’m just blessed at the opportunity to be with the guys I’m, playing with the organization I play for, living in the city that I live. At the end of the day, I’m doing what I love to do.”

Odom, the first Laker to win Sixth Man, received 513 of a possible 585 points and 96 of the possible 117 first-place votes from a panel of 117 writers and broadcasters who cover the NBA in the United States and Canada. Jason Terry of the Mavericks was second with 244 points and Thaddeus Young of the 76ers was third with 76.

“There was a point in my career where people called me an underachiever,” Odom said. “I think winning an award like this is kind of right at those people that were ready to call me an underachiever. There’s still some goals I want to set. I would love to play in the All-Star game. I feel like I can keep getting better and better, and I guess the better I get, the more I can help this team continue to win.”

Lamar Odom, who played in all 82 games this season, is the first Laker to win the Sixth Man of the Year.

By Official release, NBA.com
Posted Apr 19 2011 6:05PM

NEW YORK -- The Los Angeles Lakers' Lamar Odom is the winner of the 2010-11 KIA NBA Sixth Man Award as the league's best player in a reserve role, the NBA announced today. Odom, the first Lakers player to win the award, came off the bench in 47 contests and appeared in all 82 contests.

Odom received 513 of a possible 585 points, including 96 of a possible 117 first-place votes, from a panel of 117 sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada. For the second consecutive season, Jason Terry of the Dallas Mavericks finished second with 244 points. Thaddeus Young of the Philadelphia 76ers finished third with 76 points.

In order to be eligible for this award, players had to have come off the bench in more games than they started. Players were awarded five points for each first-place vote, three points for each second-place vote and one point for each third-place vote.

As part of its support of the Sixth Man Award, Kia Motors America will donate a new Kia Sorento CUV to the Lakers Youth Foundation whose goal is to assist nonprofit community organizations. Kia Motors will present a brand new Sorento to the charity of choice of each of four 2010-11 season-end award winners as part of the "The Kia NBA Performance Awards." Following this season, Kia Motors will have donated a total of 16 new vehicles to charitable organizations since its support of the NBA's prestigious year-end honors began with the 2007-2008 season.

As a reserve, Odom averaged 13.0 points and 7.5 rebounds in 28.4 minutes; he recorded 12 double-doubles as a sub. Overall, Odom averaged 14.4 points on .530 shooting, 8.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 32.2 minutes. He recorded 28 double-doubles on the season, scored in double digits 63 times, and netted at least 20 points 14 times.

The 2010-11 Kia NBA Sixth Man Award is part of a series of on-court performance awards called "The Kia NBA Performance Awards." The series, currently in its fourth season, is a significant part of the multiyear marketing partnership between Kia Motors America and the NBA, and also includes the Most Improved Player, Defensive Player and Most Valuable Player of the Year Awards. It also includes the Kia NBA Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Month which are awarded during the regular season. WHO THE FUCK TAKES THE FIRST ROUND SERIOUSLY?........

THE MEMPHIS GRIZZ DO, BWAHAHAHAHA!!!

First ever playoff victory (check). First ever home playoff win (check). First ever playoff series victory…not quite yet. However after the Memphis Grizzlies defeated the San Antonio Spurs they moved one step closer to accomplishing that goal as they took a 2-1 series lead.

The Grizzlies are just the seventh No. 8 seed to be up 2-1 in a series since the playoffs expanded to 16 teams during the 1983-84 campaign. This is only the third time its happened since the first round expanded to a seven-game series in the 2003 playoffs.

Memphis still has some work to do though as of the six different No. 8 seeds to lead a series 2-1, only two of them went on to win the series.

Still the Grizzlies now have proven they can beat the Spurs in the playoffs with Manu Ginobili in the lineup. In fact it was Ginobili who had the ball in his hands at the end of the game with a chance to tie, but was unable to even get a shot off.

Much like its Game 1 victory, Memphis was led by their frontcourt tandem of Zach Randolph (25 points) and Marc Gasol (17). The duo combined for 42 of the teams' 91 points, and outscored their counterparts Tim Duncan (13) and Antonio McDyess (8) by 21 points.

In the two wins for the Grizzlies this series, Randolph and Gasol have outscored Duncan and McDyess 91-to-40. However in the Grizzlies Game 2 loss the duo combined for just 23 points, only outscoring Duncan and McDyess by two.

Looking ahead to Game 4, the Spurs may have found a better way to match up with the Grizzlies front court, particularly Randolph.

After Randolph scored 14 points (6-11 FG) against McDyess and DeJuan Blair in the first half, Duncan shifted over to guard the Memphis forward for much of the final two quarters.

He held Randolph to seven points in the second half, helping the Spurs make up a nine-point halftime deficit before falling by three.

Like they did in Game 1, the Spurs struggled to make jump-shots in Game 3. San Antonio was tied for fourth in the NBA during the regular season, making 40.2 percent of its jump shots. In its two losses this series, the Spurs were held to just 30.8 percent.

Credit Memphis for closing out on shooters in the series as the Grizzlies allowed opponents to make 38.8 percent of jump-shots in the regular season, tied for 16th in the NBA.

The Grizzlies defenders really bothered the Spurs on three-point field goals as they went just 2-for-15 from beyond the arc in Game 3. During the regular season the Spurs were the NBA's best three-point shooting team making 39.7 percent of their attempts.

AHAHAHAHAHA!!!

THE SAN ANTONIO FURS WILL BE ELIMINATED IN THE 1ST FUCKING ROUND BY AN 8TH SEED, BWAHAHAHA!!!

MEANWHILE THE LAKERS TOY WITH THEIR COMPETITION BY CRUISING AROUND, AWAHAHAHAHWWAHAHAHAHAHAA!!!!

"Carmelo Anthony is ready for his close-up. With the Knicks trying to avoid an 0-3 deficit in their best-of-seven first-round playoff series with the Boston Celtics , and the possibility of playing with a limited Amar'e Stoudemire (back) and without Chauncey Billups (knee), Anthony will step onto the Madison Square Garden court for Friday night's Game 3 with the desperation of a franchise on his shoulders and the focus directly on him. ... Anthony couldn't have done much more -- other than perhaps taking the last shot rather than passing to Jared Jeffries on that infamous final possession -- to help the Knicks win Game 2 in Boston on Tuesday. His 42 points, 17 rebounds and six assists was an all-time performance, but it still resulted in a loss. And though some criticized his decision to pass rather than shoot -- after he was criticized for shooting rather than passing on the final possession of Game 1 -- others chastised Anthony for how he seemed satisfied in defeat. He even used the word 'fun' to describe the game. Gasp! Kobe Bryant never would have talked like that. 'I'm not Kobe , though,' Anthony replied with his ubiquitous Cheshire cat grin in place. 'I ain't Kobe , man.' "
