Glad to see Algeria score like today! Even though I know the entire Korean offense from Bundesliga, they deserved it.

Right now, I'm actually rooting for the US against Portugal. If Ze Germans can't beat them properly, I want to be out.

Belgium going for the title sounds more and more ridiculous. Qualifying doesn't mean shit.

most strikers have this built in need to score or they think they haven't contributed which makes them more decisive around the goal.
Exactly. Maybe if you're Messi or some other douche ball artist you're replacing the strikers, but in Germany, we should be lucky to have one last dude who knows where to put his fucking noggin after a corner once in a while.

I've always liked Jermaine Jones since his Frankfurt days. Destroyers like him aren't popular here, but he's golden for a fighting team like USA. Man of the match no matter how it ends.

1st place - versus Algeria, Russia or South Korea
2nd place - versus Belgium

Sorry. Klinsmann does not want 2nd place. Belgium has thoroughly spanked the USA twice since he took over.

If it's a draw, it will be a natural one.

Sure, but if it's tied at the half, he may just shut up shop. An unfavourable second round matchup that's still winnable is still an okay result. Not advancing at all is not.

That's a different story. Klinsmann wants the win but if the dust settles and it's scoreless or 1-1 at the half, then yeah, I could see both pulling their foot off the gas a little. I have a feeling that Ghana will roll against Portugal and that they will easily make up that goal differential if the USA loses by just a goal. A Portugal 1-0 win or a draw would be awesome but unlikely.

I'm so torn about the Germany / USA thing. I'm usually adamant that cheaters should DIAF, but I really, really want both teams to advance. Part of me hopes that some back room dealings are happening, and another part of me is ashamed for thinking it.

This World Cup is getting better and better: Italy not only kicked the fuck out, but supposedly unfairly to boot! I couldn't watch it myself, but the thought alone is giving me a massive erection.

Did Suarez seriously bite somebody again? Hard to believe any pro could be this stupid, but I sure want to. What's the Cup rules about suspensions after the fact?

Yeah, he bit a guy - ESPN showed a closeup of his arm from a video still and there was a big bite mark. How that asshole is still allowed to play is beyond me.

He must be going for some inofficial World Cup scandal record. His handball four years ago clearly wasn't enough to become the most hated player in the world. It's almost admirable. He just does not give a fuck.

Liverpool fans in defending Suarez shocker. That's the third time he's bit some fucker, 10 match ban last time. Hopefully FIFA grows a set seeing as he's got previous and at least gives him a 12 month ban. Fuckin' Rio got 4 months just for forgetting about his drug test which was then taken the next day. This cunts a biter and a racist to boot!

Two awful World Cups in a row for Italy. Drawing with NZ, losing to Costa Rica, bitten by Uruguay... Great stuff.

I got it wrong about Rio, he got 8 months for not pissing in a cup. Rooney, 4 games for saying fuck into the camera after he scored. Hopefully this will be lengthy for Suarez, but I doubt it. No balls Blatter.

My little corner of New York went temporarily insane with Colombia's win.

Realistically it's a long shot but we're finally celebrating just how I vaguely remember people did back in '94 (when I was 4). Wish my people knew how to celebrate just a bit more calmly.

Any level headed Liverpool fan cannot defend that. He's got all the talent in the world but is an absolute headcase. The best part of the incident was the Uruguayan player trying to pull Chiellini's shirt back over the bite.

He ain't getting much love on the Liverpool forums. There was talk Barca was putting in a bid. After this, who would want him. He is so volatile.

At least it deflects away as to how piss poor England were again.

My wife is Greek, and we live in a neighborhood that has a lot of Greeks and Italians.

Greeks were in the streets partying yesterday, while the Italians, god love them, are still flying their flags high.

Greece has a winable game vs Costa Rica, and if they make the quarters, their match there, while difficult, will be winable as well. Crazy!

I don't have that much of a routing interest, and I realize it will be tough for Brazil/a South American nation to NOT win on home soil, but I have a feeling about the Netherlands squad.

This is great fun for a "neutral". Can't believe Italy, England, Spain, and likely Portugal, are out in the first round!
