Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
Health permitting they have a team that could win the WS right now. I'm not so sure it needs to be tinkered with majorly really.
An example would be SF, they need to reinvent their pitching staff. Sabean is almost ready to throw in the towel on '13 and start on next year. Boston is nowhere near that I still think they make it far in the postseason considering which Lester they get, if Lackey has 9ks or 9ER, if Buchholz doesn't see his shadow, etc. The concern for Boston's FO IMO should be the pitching.

Apparently they had the same concern as me because reportabley they just traded for Jake Peavey. That was the name I kept hearing being close or imminent, not Stanton.

Angels rumored to be shopping Aybar and Kendrick.
Jake Peavy and Bud Norris have been scratched from their starts and the Phillies have called up a 3B. Young is in the lineup tonight and has said he would only accept a trade to the Rangers.
The Angels are,, simply put,,, a mess!

The Cards were interested in Aybar but wouldn't meet the Angels' price. Kendrick is probably gone today. This season is a fucking mess for them.

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
At least the Angels got back a prospect instead of giving them away.
Angels trade Alberto Callaspo to the Athletics for Grant Green.
So, the Red Sox trade Iglesias AND 3 prospects for an injury prone, past his prime Peavy. Oh, and his career ERA in the playoffs in his prime? Over 12.
Plus they got reliever Brayan Villarreal. Touted as a hard thrower with control issues who has a current ERA over 20.
Guess one Daniel Bard in the system wasn't enough.
Can't wait to see who the new SS is next year. It certainly won't be Bogaerts as I'm sure he's currently being packaged in a deal for A-Rod.

I don't like the trade the Red Sox made either. But as long as they don't trade Bogaerts, they will be good at SS for several years to come.

Right, but they need a 3B too (Thank God Young said he won't go anywhere but the Rangers) and a Bogaerts, Iglesias, Pedrioa infield would have been insane.wickedsensation wrote:I don't like the trade the Red Sox made either. I was watching the game and disliked the ending very muchNeverSurrender wrote:Another night, another walkoff for the Dodgers.

Noticed the announcer said the crowd was around $52,000
Is that normal for a home game or is that due to
the Yankees being in town?
Also could not help but notice the small number of fans that were seen leaving the stadium early. Normally you can't help but see cars vacating
the parking lots as early as the 7th inning.

What makes that also impressive it was a weeknight.
The Dodgers are always one of the top teams in mlb in attendance. Although I must say during the McCourt years not as good. The city of Los Angeles hated the McCourts.
Because of the way the Dodgers have been playing, attendance should continue to be excellent. That Puig guy really lit a fire under the team & city.
People leave Dodger games early because getting in & out of the place is a pain in the ass. If you stay the entire game, when you get to your car, you are better off sitting there for a half hour or more instead of being stuck in the traffic of all the cars leaving.
You will also notice when the game begins all of the cars that are still trying to get to ballpark.
Dodger games are never completely full until 3rd inning or so.
With that being said, it is still one of the most beautiful parks in baseball, just lousy parking.

The stadium sells out more with Puig around.
Can't say it was just the Yankees, they sold out Saturday too.

A few years ago when Manny Ramirez was doing his thing was something that had not happened at Dodger Stadium in a long long time.
It was beyond electric! The way this team is playing has that similar feel.
Now if only Matt Kemp can stay healthy.

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
Great pitching all around in that 2 game set with the Yankees and Dodgers. It seems like the Yankees have to either shut out or pretty much hold down the other team to 1 or 2 runs to win. Offense is as bad as I can remember. Hopefully Jeter gets going (though its probably not fair to expect much). Granderson gets back and they can perhaps get something from him as well so things might improve enough to sneak in. Plus...getting ARod back at third...or maybe not...
Speaking of ARod, I have to admit to being way too excited for these suspensions to come along. I'm checking the news all day long. Hopefully, this isn't just all the media and their sources getting ahead of themselves and MLB has all the evidence against him as reported so that Selig can become a true Yankee and boot him for the forseeable future.
And oh yeah, get those other guys too....

I loved how the Cubs announcers started off dogging Puig for the rookie mistakes he makes, but by the end of the game were licking his nuts and calling him an elite talent.

What sucks is when Dodgers go on the road (midwest to eastcoast) he stays home, and we are stuck with those two ding dongs.

MLB suspensions expected to be announced
Monday
Pressure to get suspensions over with before the playoffs could force an end to negotiations in baseball’s latest drug scandal.
Monday appears to be the deadline for Alex Rodriguez and 13 others to accept suspensions for their ties to the Biogenesis of America anti-aging clinic. While A-Rod is expected to get a lengthy ban, a penalty starting that day would allow Texas All-Star outfielder Nelson Cruz to return for October.
Major League Baseball is prepared to issue two simultaneous announcements no later than Monday, a person familiar with the process told The Associated Press on Thursday. One would list players who accept suspensions; the other would name those disciplined without deals, but who could challenge penalties before an arbitrator.
The person spoke on condition of anonymity because no statements were authorized.
Most players face 50-game suspensions for their links to the now-closed Florida clinic, which has been accused of distributing banned performance-enhancing drugs.
But baseball is threatening to kick Rodriguez out for life unless the three-time AL MVP agrees to a long ban, perhaps around 200 games.
Rodriguez appeared ready to talk Thursday as he was leaving the team’s minor league complex in Tampa, Fla., waving a group of writers to his car in the parking lot and rolling down the window. However, when he saw a second group with TV cameras approaching, he said: “I’ll talk to you guys, but no cameras.”
Rodriguez closed the window and waited a moment, then left without saying another word.
Baseball’s highest-paid player with a $28 million salary, Rodriguez played in a simulated game and saw 31 pitches over six at-bats, played third and ran bases.
The Yankees expect A-Rod to be accused of recruiting other athletes for the clinic, attempting to obstruct MLB’s investigation, and not being truthful with MLB in the past. Baseball has considered suspending him for violations of its labor contract and drug agreement, which would cause him to start serving his penalty before the case would go to arbitration.
Sidelined following hip surgery in January and then a strained quadriceps, the 38-year-old third baseman hopes to return to the Yankees in a few days. He is to play Friday and Saturday at Double-A Trenton, putting himself in position to rejoin New York for Monday’s series opener at the Chicago White Sox if he’s not banned.
Barring a rainout this weekend, Cruz’s Rangers would have exactly 50 games remaining before they play at the Los Angeles Angels on Monday night. If he files a grievance, as a first offender, the penalty would be delayed until after a decision by arbitrator Fredric Horowitz. But the lengthy legal process likely would risk his eligibility for the playoffs and the start of next season.
Cruz said Thursday he hadn’t made any decision about a possible appeal. Asked whether he was told specifically what penalty could be forthcoming, Cruz responded, “No, I cannot tell you. Sorry.”
Detroit shortstop Jhonny Peralta is the other targeted All-Star on a pennant contender, and the Tigers would have 53 games left before playing at Cleveland on Monday.
Another All-Star shortstop, San Diego’s Everth Cabrera, could serve all of a 50-game suspension this year if he begins with the Padres’ game against Baltimore on Tuesday.
Others facing discipline include injured Yankees catcher Francisco Cervelli and Seattle catcher Jesus Montero, who is in the minor leagues with Triple-A Tacoma.
The Miami Herald reported Thursday that the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Miami had opened a criminal investigation into whether Biogenesis founder Anthony Bosch illegally sold controlled substances to high school students. That probe has the potential to complicate baseball’s disciplinary cases if Bosch’s lawyers advise him not to participate in MLB grievance hearings, where the commissioner’s office presumably would call him to testify and authenticate documents.

What's with the Cubs?
They are playing at home & their outfielders are bobbling balls hit in
the corners like they've never played on that field before.
The last two games there has been at least 3 runs scored because of
outfielders mishandling a ball.
Go Dodgers!
