There is a lot of revisionist history on Ali. He wasn't revered nearly as much then as he is now and he did get his fair share of "shellacking". The main difference is that Ali was the champ. Sherman hasn't won anything yet.
Ali caught TONS of shit from the old school, white press back in the 1960s. He was almost universally reviled. One of the ONLY high-profile guys who stuck up for him was Cosell, almost everyone else thought he was a loudmouth and a traitor, and were thrilled when his title was unjustly taken away from him.

Ali didn't become revered until the 1970s, when a) his underdog dismantling of George Foreman made him a true boxing legend, and b) the old-school white sports press guys started to die off at the exact time as public sentiment on Vietnam shifted overwhelmingly to Ali's side.

Plus, I think a lot of it is also what I call "Sludge Madonna Syndrome." Whenever someone like Lady Gaga comes up around here, you have tons of old school hair metallers - who no doubt LOATHED Madonna back in the day - coming to Madonna's defense, claiming she was a groundbreaker and all of the modern pop women are just "ripping her off" etc.

When you've been around long enough, you win the respect of people who used to hate you. Especially when you remind people of their youth.

So now I'm a racist for thinking Sherman is a jerk, you should watch the talking heads on TV then you want believe it there's nothing but a bunch of Uncle Tom's on there.

They must be just selling the brother up the stream so they can keep their job.

To think you can't criticize Sherman or risk being called a racist is every bit as stupid as the views of Billy Bob Crackerhead.

the extra point has a 99% success rate so their thinking about making a TD staright up 7 points and you can get another point added on by trying what is now known as the 2 point conversion.

If you miss on the extra point however your TD would be only 6 points.

I like that idea so it probably has no chance of coming true.
Why not just do away with the extra point and make it a 2 point conversion? A TD is worth 7 except when it isn't is retarded, unless the 2 point try is still voluntary, then it makes sense. That could be pretty cool from a strategic perspective.
Yea that's what I meant you didn't have to go for the extra point but if you did and missed you'd lose one point of your TD.

I was trying to come up with a scenario where Sherman could be thought of like Ali WS and it's pretty tough. He'd have to convert to Islam, he can't exactly dodge the draft so I guess he could refuse to pay taxes or something and play like Deion Sanders for about 15 years. Even that wouldn't be enough.

If he converted to Islam and starting dating either men or Trans folks would certainly give him a super amount of heat. Especially in what I call Real 'Murica.

Yeah, that'd probably do the trick. Racism in America isn't what it was in the 60's but homophobia is alive and kickin'.

Watched SF vs Sea surrounded by 49er fans who could not stop bitching and complaining about the refs. Instead their anger should have been directed towards the overrated Kap.

On the play where #24 dove into the endzone:
The very 1st replay clearly showed his hand touched the ground before the ball crossed the goal line.
That obviously was not good enough for the fans who bitched about why that should be a TD, etc.....Learn the fucking rules you idiots!

The play where Bowman stripped the ball at the goal line and wrecked his knee. As soon as Buck and Aikman communicated the play was not able to be reviewed, the bitching and moaning should have ceased. NOPE!
I guess 49er fans can't hear so well.
That rule sucks. A play like that should be available to review.

2 days later and these 49er fans want to blames the Zebras and not
Kap for the loss.

What the fuck does Romo have to do with any of this? The dude is golfing right now, counting millions with the rest of that Sorry ass Dallas Team.

Dallas losing last season came down to poor coaching and piss poor play. Show me once where I complained about the refs.

Course, I do like where you got that pic link from. From FORBES magazine..

Romo, that rich bastard. LOL

I wish I had atleast 10 Sherman's on Dallas.

Speaking of The NFL Refs, when will the NFL hire these men FULL TIME???

The game is so fast now. Refs should not have to work a job M-F and then expected to be the very best on a Sunday.
Impossible.

There has to be more than enough $$ to secure these full time jobs and allow the Zebras to work at their craft 365 days a year.

Am I right or am I wrong???

Not sure how many average NFL fans are aware the refs are not full time as of 2013.

I like the extra point for many reasons. It's not always a given, ask Romo. A few games this year came down to one point. It helps keep kickers and holders warmed up.

It's one point that can force a team to go for two at the end.
It takes more away from a game that's almost unrecognizable.
There's already enough rules that's increased scoring.
It will effect stats. Eventually every record in the book will be set from Y2K on. Pretty soon it's going to be like College scores.

Nope, don't like the idea of taking away the penny point. If anything make the extra point a 30-35yarder.

I am thinking the very same. Don't eliminate the play, just make the play
much more difficult to convert.

35 yards away would significantly reduce the success rate. Which I think
currently sits at 99.6%. I might have read that wrong.

The XFL had no extra point. This just takes the NFL one step closer to your dream of being like the XFL. What's the problem?

Remember the late 1980s replay experiement? Seemed like every other play was reviewed.

Refs would review passing plays for PI calls.

Kaep choked and the refs were horrible. The first fucking play was a facemask Seattle wasn't called for and thus set the pace of the game. I turned it off right after halftime because it was so bad.

Reggie Miller said it best today. There was nothing wrong with the rant until he named names.

Reggie said he made the same mistake with John Starks back in the day and he regretted it immediately.

Last night HBO Real Sports aired a segment about
Marijuana use in the NFL.
Was a great piece. Featured a former Broncos player who I did not remember one bit. This player and a very famous Israeli Marijuana specialist made some strong points pro-Weed in the NFL.
Check this interview out if you have HBO

Former NFL and University of Texas quarterback Vince Young has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

The petition was filed last week in a Houston federal bankruptcy court, listing Young with estimated assets between $500,001 and $1 million and liabilities between $1,001,000 and $10 million. The Houston Chronicle reports no specific details on Young's assets and liabilities were immediately available.

The 30-year-old Young is fighting two lawsuits stemming from a $1.8 million loan obtained in his name during the 2011 NFL lockout.

A court has granted a judgment against Young to Pro Player Funding, a New York company that made the loan.

Pro Player Funding has made several efforts in a Harris County state district court to enforce collection of the judgment, but those efforts remain pending.

Everyone is sick of the Sherman crap already, but since I am a Seattle fan I still read every damn thing posted on it. This NFL Films wired for sound actually changed my opinion. What was shown live to the world and what was actually happening is pure reality TV ratings at it's finest.

Oh, and I am done with this. It's to the point of arguing about whether Nirvana was a great band or if they sucked.

Richard Sherman: 'Thug' is accepted way of calling someone N-word

Fuck Dick Sherman, the more I see and hear the more I want to see him tear an ACL. Now he's pulling the race card over THUG? Fuck Sherman's self absorbed punk attitude. I played against every nationality of THUG and hated them all in the same way.

In fact Fuck Sherman and Fuck Seattle, Sherman's totally taken focus from the game put it on himself and I don't see the team shutting him up so fuck both of them. For the first time in my life I'm Bronco fan.

Go Broncos, I hope Peyton put's up 7td's on Dick's side.

You can bury your head in the sand until the cows come home (I love mixed metaphors...sue me), but it's absolutely true. A black athlete gets angry, opens his mouth and starts ranting? Call him "thug" because you don't have the balls to call him an uppity nigger.

Please allow me to educate you on the definition of "thug".

The last two cunts I played against who were thugs, one was a spic and the other was a honky. You're right on one thing, you don't call them Nig's to their face, Nigger is out of the question, it's a racist word I'd never use. Biscuit Lips or Watermelon Ninja maybe. Words like punk, bitch or punk bitch are more effective. Thug's more of a complement.

After all he's black, AND he pushed Sherman in the face when Sherman came over to say "helluva game, man! Helluva game!", which prompted Sherman's insane tirade.

That's straight up thug life. It's like his momma didn't teach him no manners!
