The Yankees just announced that manager Joe Girardi has re-signed with a four-year contract through the 2017 season.

I'd love to see the Pirates put Wainwright out early and win. If LA don't go I'd be glad to watch Pittsburgh make the WS.
Wainwright has some flat out nasty pitches but he's leaving a few hanging early.

No shit. While I'd love to see Boston work over Adrian Gonzalez and the west coast Yankees I think it's gonna be St. Louis. Cards fans want payback for '04...2004 was for '46. 2013 will be for '67johnk5150 wrote:He looks fine to me.UtahRatt wrote:I'd love to see the Pirates put Wainwright out early and win. Keep in mind though I had Atlanta going to the WS. Which brings up my next point, Kimbrel was asking for the ball in the 8th for the last 6 outs. Coulda woulda shoulda right?

Wainwright is a professional pitcher. 240 Innings again this year. And notice he never panics when under pressure.killeverything wrote:No shit. Wainwright didn't scatter 8 hits, Pittsburgh had their chances leaving 10 on..Well that and Wainwright is that good. As you mentioned, he showed he's not fazed with runners.

The Cub's of the East coast just might get a chance to work over Gonzo, they could use another WS before going another 90 years of nothing. I figured he was going to resign with the MFY, his 3 children are aged like 6 - 11 and moving at that age has to be difficult. Although it's been reported ( and Scott Boras isn't his agent ) with his ties to Chicago and the Cubs he was seriously considering coming home.johnk5150 wrote:Girardi had so much leverage that 4 million seems like a steal.
I had no idea he was so respected in the game. A lot of teams have wanted him at the helm. Like LA's choice was Girardi, but he was unavailible so they went with Torre, etc. I've never been too impressed when a manager of an allstar team does well ( Phil Jackson I'm talking to you ), but with what he did this season the injuries, Aroid's primaddonna shit, the trustafarian owners' blunders, etc. is pretty impressive.
I think it opens up a whole new discussion for AL manager of the year. There are a lot of canidates Francona for the Indians turn around, Maddon for being the best, Melvin for his platooning skills, Ferrell for guiding an allstar team to a pennant. Girardi's job with NY deserves serious consideration IMO.

I had a good feeling Girardi & The Yankees were going shake hands again when Girardi mentioned he wanted to make his decision sooner vs later. The Cubs were forbidden from speaking with Girardi until Oct 31.killeverything wrote:I figured he was going to resign with the MFY, his 3 children are aged like 6 - 11 and moving at that age has to be difficult. Cubs never had a chance. Girardi never met with Cubs.
Now that the Yankees have a manager, time to work on Cano and the other potential free agents the team currently has.

AL has home field this season, you'll see the DH at least 4 games if it get's that far. I had to comment on this post though, Yankees Jr.? Boston's been that for a long time now. East Coast Cubs? I've never heard that before and it's fucking hilariousUtahRatt wrote:The Cub's of the East coast just might get a chance to work over Gonzo, they could use another WS before going another 90 years of nothing. One more thing ( I'm on a roll right now ) Verlander has 0ER in his last 19IP. Damn, game 5 is gonna be tough.

David Price expects to be traded this offseason and a report states there is a "strong possibility" the Tigers will trade Max Scherzer.

Scherzer's had a great season, but I feel if the King didn't strain his oblique and miss a few starts he would be first in line for the Cy; at least numbers wise that are in a pitcher's control.Facedown wrote:David Price expects to be traded this offseason and a report states there is a "strong possibility" the Tigers will trade Max Scherzer.
The run support Scherzer gets is unreal, ( too lazy to look it up right now ) but if I recall correctly it's something like 8+ a game. It's not his fault and I'm not hatin' I just feel that without having Cabrerra, Fielder, Martinez, etc. backing you up; your "ace" status would look a helluva lot different.

many of Bakers methods were puzzling, such as his tendency to put players with a poor on-base percentage at or near the top of his lineups. Baker rejected (and still rejects) the on-base percentage statistic, arguing that extra baserunners simply "clog up the bases" unless they can run well. With their roster’s talent and their ownership’s willingness to spend, the Nationals will have no shortage of qualified candidates lining up to replace Davey Johnson as their next manager. They added another big name to that list this week.

Eric Wedge I'm talking to you. Considering Zuerednick, Lincoln and Armstrong's complete ineptitude I wouldn't be surprised to see Seattle make a run for him, after they try to lure Ellsbury.

4th inning - M Cabrera homered to left, T Hunter scored. 4 hits and a walk left the bases loaded.
4th Detroit 2 Oakland 0
So far so good.
*edit*
Tigers add another in the 6th, Verlander is perfect into the 6th....Oops he just walked one.

Holy it that's pure domination.
If Oakland advanced I would pull for them completely, just to see Billy Beane finally stick it to the old school naysayers. "My shit don't work in the playoffs" - Billy Beane
Actually against an "on" Justin Verlander ( see last year's ALCS ) nothing works

A's have now lost 6 of the previous 7 game 5(elimination games) in the playoffs.
I think the streak started when the Yankees defeated them in game 5 in Oakland. The very famous Jeter relay play. AWESOME!!!
Last night the A's could have started Dave Stewart and that would not have mattered any.

I would've loved to have seen that. Dave Stewart was a fucking beast in the playoffs and owned Roger Clemens. Owned him hard.Machado wrote: Last night the A's could have started Dave Stewart and that would not have mattered any.
Piece of trivia: Ken Griffey Jr.'s first major league hit ( 1st game, 1st AB, 1989, 19 yrs. old ) was a double off of Dave Stewart at Oakland Coliseum.
*Andre Either is in the starting lineup for LA. First game since 09/13*

Then again, they could sweep the queers from Saint Louis.

Mattingly proves he is inept again.
Pinch running Dee "I haven't done shit right in months" Gordon for A-Gone? Of course Dee hesitates running the bases and gets thrown out on a fielders choice. A-Gone would have come up twice more instead we get Michael "Double play" Young and he lives up to his nickname.
Go back to the American league, Donnie foosball.

I'm so glad we have Carlos Beltran. That THROW to home plate. He won that game all by his self with help from the pitchers.
