Hanley Ramirez is not in the line-up for today's game 6 matchup.

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
NLCS MVP Micheal Wacha leads St. Louis to their 4th pennant in 10 years. That's a fucking dynasty if I ever saw one. Homegrown too. Unreal.
I'm working on a post for starters on short rest, like Kershaw has done twice now. Historically it's success rate is pretty low with Schilling's unreal 2001 and Beckett's 2003 being the exception. I'm curious ( and waiting for brookesbaseball to update their pitchf/x ) what did the short rest start, if any have on today's performance.

17 homegrown players on the Cardinals roster. It's great to see that kind of organization succeed.

( paraphrasing ) Pujols wife "they insulted us with their offer." ( which was well north of $100m ).
Pujols, Albert superstar....Cardinals homegrown superstar signs with Anaheim.
The Cardinals without Pujols have been to the NLCS twice now and are on their way to the WS.
Pujols, Albert superstar hasn't sniffed the postseason since he was "insulted."
That story is awesome.

I was glad at the time when he signed elsewhere, I had a feeling whoever signed him would regret the last few years of that deal. I didn't expect him to fall apart as quickly as he did, though.

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
No one did. I remember Curt Schilling saying a line-up of Pujols, Hamilton and Trout would give me nightmares at night. Apparently it's just Trout who's truly scary.
On bleacherreport it's stated that the MFY is going to go well north of 300m this offseason. It's a shitty organization that doesn't know how to build a team so expect this offseason.
Here's where it gets good though. The FA class is pretty weak with Cano ( future DH ) and McCann leading the class. MFY needs a replacement for Rivera....there's Nathan who is 38 ( and seeking a multi year deal ) and Brian Wilson who is coming off his second Tommy John, bearded and lives in LA. There is fun to be had.
Let's look at it from an even funnier potential reality. The Dodgers missed the WS too. Magic want's to buy a ring. Wilson is more than likely staying in LA, he won't shave and become "classy". LA probably want's Cano too. Were about to watch an epic cold war and see these fucks get straddled with more 10 year contracts.

Cardinals have played in 18 World Series and won 11 of them in the following years: 2011, 2006, 1982, 1967, 1964, 1946, 1944, 1942, 1934, 1931, and 1926.

So it turns out the draft pick St. Louis received when Anaheim signed Albert Pujols was Micheal Wacha ( you might've heard of him
).

BREAKING NEWS:
The Tigers Jim Leyland to resign.
I figured he would be fired or "retire" after the most recent playoff exit.

And nice to see Puig air mailing that throw from RF to the backstop. SO FUNNY!
The kid has not learned much yet.

I didn't see anything for or against his ability to manage. His team making the playoffs was to be expected 200 million plus superstar team in the weakest division in baseball? You fought off the Dbacks and a depleted Giants? Kudos.Machado wrote:“When you're put in this situation, the organization basically says, 'We don't know if you can manage or not.' The problem I saw with Mattingly's management ( or lack thereof ) when the veteran-laden LA Douchebags are acting like a bunch of fucking highschool kids and you did nothing? Playoff eliminations are coming ( going on 26 years without a pennant ). You've got a freakishly talented Cuban who thinks he's God's gift to the game, a 100m dollar veteran first baseman who acts like it's beer league and the best pitcher in baseball who's needs not to be ridden so hard. Now with JUST those 3 variables you would think "maybe this will bite us in the ass come postseason." Nope. I can't blame LA's elimination on Mattingly, but he certainly didn't help.
I think with Puig it's going to be worse next year. The league is sick of it, umpires are pissed at his attitude in the NLCS, pitcher's have figured out he can't hit inside fastballs and his baserunning is comical.
He's fucking talented, but expect him to come crashing down to earth in 2014.

Give us your WS prediction.
I'd like to think the Cards can avenge being swept back in 2007?
Critical the Cards win at least 1 game in Boston before going home for 3 games.

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
I had Boston winning the whole thing before the season started......over Atlanta. This one? St. Louis is fucking tough, like best record in the NL tough. These teams are pretty evenly matched in every aspect. With a slight edge going to Boston on the basepaths. Except the runners on the basepaths have to run on Molina...the best defensive catcher in the game.Machado wrote:Kill

I'd personally take Wainwright, Wacha over Lester, Buchholz as my #1 & 2 even though Boston's rotation has more postseason experience. The games in the LCS were won over terrifying #1s when both teams grinded out every at bat. That won't be the case against the Cards bullpen or the Sox.
It should be an amazing series. One of those every little thing we'll have to break right for the winner, because each team is basically playing their doppleganger. I wouldn't be surprised to see this go 6 or 7.
If St. Louis wins I wouldn't be pissed. That team is basically homegrown and you have to support that, especially in the face of the LA Douchebags, Yankees and well, Boston. Plus wnouldn't that be kinda the ultimate "psst Albert, fuck you holmes." Mrs. Pujols can think about being insulted some more watching her husband's "team" win without him.

See there's great storylines for this matchup. St. Louis is 2 - 1 in WS matchup against the Sox

Mattingly is on his way out the door.
Kinda' weird for me since I like him as a person and he manged all those egos well. But just about anybody who posts in this thread and watches the National League could strategize better than him. He just lacks greatly at that and never seemed to learn form his mistakes.

See I don't think Donnie lost because of poor strategies or game plans. He lost because he COULDN'T manage all those egos. Puig is the best example of that, the guy was benched more than once because he think's he's Willie Mays, the child like celebrations, the Maury Show attitudes. That team ran the clubhouse, not Mattingly.NeverSurrender wrote:Mattingly is on his way out the door.

And the hits just keep coming. Although the Angels probably would have gotten a slappy utility infielder with that pick.
Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
Kill nailed it. There were far too many egos in that clubhouse and there is no telling at which point in the season Mattingly "lost" the clubhouse.killeverything wrote:See I don't think Donnie lost because of poor strategies or game plans. They certainly did not respect him very much and the actions by Puig since he was called up were a prime example.
Not sure if the game has changed so much that Mattingly was unable to keep up???

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
I don't think that Mattingly couldn't stop it, I think he chose not to. A payroll that size in last place? Puig caught lightning in a bottle and Donnie let the team's antics continue because they were winning. I think it had more to do with job security personally.
Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
There's 2 green seats left behind home plate at Bush Stadium for $16,000 if anybody is interested.
