It's being reported that while they need bullpen help ( who doesn't? ), Brian Wilson apparently won't shave in order to pitch for the MFY.

I'm gonna quote myself to better explain myselfkilleverything wrote:Best pitcher in baseball Clayton Kershaw won his 2nd Cy in 3 years today.
"As long as I don't give up 15 ERs, I'll get the W" 20 game winner Max Scherzer ran away with the AL Cy.
Ran away with it. I don't think he's better than Darvish, he's not better than the King ( no one but Kershaw is ), he's not better than Iwakuma, he's certainly not better than Verlander. IMO the BBWAA got this one wrong. I think Darvish deserved it.
Next season will prove my point. Especially IF Detroit trades Scherzer to make room for Smiley ( as per rumours ). See Scherzer isn't like a Cliff Lee success story where Lee got more of a break in his curve and learned how to locate his 4 seam better ( analysis coutesy of Hardball Times ).
Regression to the mean.

Iwakuma came in 3rd in the Cy voting. I'm personally not convinced of Scherzer's continued ace status, he did have a better season than Hisashi I just don't believe Scherzer was better than Darvish.

I just thought you were the world's biggest Iwakuma fan.
I don't think the voters can be expected to vote based on who's more likely to continue being ace-like or who's due more regression, etc., etc.
Scherzer didn't have Yu's gaudy K rate, but otherwise they were comparable. And obv. even in this day and age, the 20+ wins will put you over the top more often than not, wrong-headed though that may be. It's not like an injustice or anything, though.
And Clayton was a no-brainer, of course.

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
Don't get me wrong I like Iwakuma. I just think the voters put too much emphasis on wins. The only time that they didn't was when 19 game winner CC Sabbathia beat out 20 game winner Josh Beckett ( 2007 ). CC beat Beckett in every single catagory ( even the flashy sabremetric ones I'm so fond of ) so that was the right choice.MurrayFiend wrote:I just thought you were the world's biggest Iwakuma fan.![]()

Miguel Cabrera wins 2nd MVP, giving Detroit their 3rd consecutive.
I agree with it this year.
I read this from Jeff Passan:
Somehow Mike Trout got a seventh-place vote for MVP. Seventh, as in someone thought there were six better players than him in the AL.
I just wanted to drop that tweet ( no, I'm not on twitter ) to show how clueless these jackasses usually are.

Andrew McCutchen wins the NL MVP in a landslide. The 6th Pirate to do so and first since Barry Bonds.

Yeah, no problem with Trout getting second this year, but whoever put him seventh is a jackhole.

On this date in baseball history:
November 15, 1886
The Cincinnati Red Stockings sent Catcher Jack Boyle and $400 to the St. Louis Browns for outfielder Hugh Nicol. The trade is the first recorded in MLB history.

The Giants and Tim Hudson are close to completing a 2/23 deal.
it's also floating around that they're interested in bringing back Brian Wilson. A Wilson/Romo bullpen would be terrifying. I don't see it happening personally, Wilson is coming off his second Tommy John, has at least 4 other serious suitors and will command big bucks.

Wilson is a shell of his former self.
Late in the year he was throwing heaters that were hovering
around 91 mph.
Then he had the run in with Larry Baer after a game in SF.
Wilson reminds me of that pro athlete who 10 years after leaving the game he is broke, blaming everybody else for his faults and never taking responsibility for his behavior/actions

Josh Johnson has let it be known that his top choice is to go to either SF or San Diego.
Also Cano and the MFY are reportabley 150m apart in negotiations. No worries though, super sports agent Jay Z (
) has entered the talks.

Colorado and LaTroy Hawkins agree to a 1/2.5m deal. He's expected to close.
Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
Personally I hope Cano returns to the Yankees, but then again imagine how many players the Yankees can acquire with the extra $200+ million they won't spend on Cano.killeverything wrote:Josh Johnson has let it be known that his top choice is to go to either SF or San Diego.

Cano and his agent have overreached by a wide margin. Can not imagine any MLB team will meet his asking price.

Apparently so far NO team will go over 200m for him and not one ( except the MFY ) has even went to 150Machado wrote:Personally I hope Cano returns to the Yankees, but then again imagine how many players the Yankees can acquire with the extra $200+ million they won't spend on Cano.killeverything wrote:Josh Johnson has let it be known that his top choice is to go to either SF or San Diego.

*Breaking on bleacherreport.com*
MFY president say's NY and Cano have nothing to talk about until Cano comes off his ridiculous 300m demand.
You hear that sound? It's Jay Z getting worked over. Not worked over like when he tried to battle Nas, now he's getting worked over by the sports world.
Cash money yo.
stupid fucking rappers.

I love Hudson, and that's a nice signing for the Giants. Now I don't have to like a Brave, yay (except for Jason Heyward; I'm still a believer).

I like the Hudson signing too. I'm pretty sure that once all the details are released it will be an incentive-laden contract. Hudson's recovery projections have him replicating his last two years and with SF's medical staff ( ranked #1 for the past decade ) and Righetti's hands on coaching style I could see the Giants getting max value.MurrayFiend wrote:I love Hudson, and that's a nice signing for the Giants. SF has some pretty good arms coming up through the minors right now but they're still 2 years out which is the length of the deal. Hudson works as a perfect bridge for the future rotation. If SF's rotation can stay healthy they could give LA ( who has the West in a stranglehold ) a run for their money. I think AZ is going to step up too. The West could be exciting next year.

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
David Murphy and the Cleveland Indians are finalizing a 2/10m+ deal. Murphy was hitting .220 last season with Texas and lost a lot of playing time because of his slump.
Sometimes a high reward/low risk player is waiting to be picked up. I think Josh Johnson could fall into that category, David Murphy is not. Oh he has potential alright.....potential to maybe hit above the Mendoza-line.
*edit*
Josh Johnson and San Diego agree to a 1/8m deal. If I was GM I would take the risk on this one. Aaannnddd I like every other GM would not sign Cano for 300m, I don't care if some rapper say's your MLB's Micheal Jordan.
yes, Jay to the Z is spoutin' that line.

On this date in baseball November 20, 2001
Ichiro Suzuki joined Fred Lynn as the only other player in history to earn both the MVP and Rookie Of The Year simultaneously.
Only two. Think about that, because we all know Mike Trout deserved the MVP too last year.

Although I watched many of his starts and he looked brutal as all hell, I believe 2013 was a blip for Johnson. Assuming health, I don't see any reason he won't succeed in SD.
