The Baseball Hall of Fame just announced the 2013 Hall of Fame ballot:
Moises Alou, Jeff Bagwell, Armando Benitez, Craig Biggio, Barry Bonds, Sean Casey, Roger Clemens, Ray Durham, Eric Gagne, Tom Glavine, Luis Gonzalez, Jacque Jones, Todd Jones, Jeff Kent, Paul Lo Duca, Greg Maddux, Edgar Martinez, Don Mattingly, Fred McGriff, Mark McGwire, Jack Morris, Mike Mussina, Hideo Nomo, Rafael Palmeiro, Mike Piazza, Tim Raines, Kenny Rogers, Curt Schilling, Richie Sexson, Lee Smith, J.T. Snow, Sammy Sosa, Frank Thomas, Mike Timlin, Alan Trammell, Larry Walker.
I highlighted the 4 players who should be inducted this year. Especially since 0 were inducted last year.

The only 4 from that list that you can guarantee never juiced, were never suspected and fought/petitioned congress to eradicate the usage were Maddux, Glavine, Thomas and Schilling. Maddux and Glavine weren't as vocal as Schill and Big Hurt, but were always vocal about testing.Machado wrote:The Baseball Hall of Fame just announced the 2013 Hall of Fame ballot:

While Selig has done a good job implementing testing it sickens me players ( no brainer inductees ie. Biggio, Bagwell and Piazza ) with a suspicion are suffering.
I think it's obvious Maddux, Glavine and Thomas get in....hopefully first ballot. For his post season heroics ( he barely misses the cut without ) Schilling gets in eventually. I always look forward to hearing Jack Morris bitch about not getting in. That guy is a jackass and pitched ONE good game in the World Series. That's it. Outside looking in...fuckstick.
I hate Jack Morris.
Ohhhh also I can make a case for Edgrrrrr's induction too. It's been said he was vehemently opposed to PEDs and while the BBWAA looks unfavorabley upon the DH, he did revolutionize the position.
It still blows my mind a team with Jay Buhner, Randy Johnson, Ken Griffey Jr., Arod and Edgrrr Martinez never won a pennant.
I'll have finished my bachelors when Griffey is eligible for Cooperstown and am planning the trek for graduation to see it happen.

Mariners hire Lloyd McClendon as manager.
Apparently, BBWAA votes can be bought for a price.....and one did.

Good point brought up by a caller on Felger & Mazz today.
Should managers suffer the same scrutiny as players if a manager had juicers on his team?
Can a managers win total be boosted by roided players?
Since roid players are being excluded from the HOF, should managers be excluded too?
Mazz has a vote but said the BBWAA only votes for players.

Bring in PEDs ( or knowledgeable lack there of

It changes everything. "Adored" modern managers? Francona ( Manny, possibly Ortiz ), Torre, Baker, Washington, Pinnela, Girardi, LaRussa, Howe, Scosscia, etc.
Those are just off the top of my head that had proven roid monkeys on their roster. I never thought of it like that and have something to think about. HBT or Baseballprospectus have to have done a study on this originally. I'll look more into this and report my findings later.

" Cano remain 80m apart after reported 9/252 deal.
I'm gonna laugh my ass off if he settles for way less than what he was convinced he's worth and fires Jay-Z. Since now he's coming out saying he never asked for 300 million. When all the big market teams don't need you except for NY all they have to bid against themselves. I think Jay-Z's forray into sports agenting is going to be a failure.

Notice how they say Cano's "agents" during renegotiation's
But earlier it say's Cano's "agent" during the first laughable offer.
Forget about agents and lets just say Jay Z.......
160m is a long way from 300m and I hope Cano tuns it down and gets a tiny more from a team that never sees .500 while Jay Z gets laughed out of baseball.

Agents for free-agent 2B Robinson Cano (Yankees) asked the New York Yankees for a nine-year deal worth $250 million to $260 million during their most recent meeting. The Yankees are willing to give Cano a seven-year deal worth between $160 million and $175 million.

The New York Yankees are making it clear to free-agent 2B Robinson Cano (Yankees) and his representatives that they are not willing to re-sign him for the $310 million he is requesting. "We want Robbie back; we think Robbie is terrific," president Randy Levine said. "But we have no interest in doing any 10-year deals and no interest in paying $300 million to any player. Until he gets a little more realistic, we have nothing to talk about." Cano's agents are trying to market him as "the next Michael Jordan."

Phil Hughes signs 3/24 deal with the Twins.
Obviously his time with the MFY was done and he being a flyball pitcher moving to Target Field, I could see the gamble Minnesota is making paying off. He had the skill set to be #2 or an ace he just couldn't put it together. He and Nolasco could really be successful there.

Yankees offered Cano 7-year, $160M
Cano is asking for 9-year, $252M
Cano needs to wake up. I'm a HUGE Yankees fan but there is no way Cano is worth that money.
He has not won an MVP award. He has failed to win a single batting title.
Robbie has played next to Jeter and ARod but to date he has not put up similar numbers to justify a contract that LARGE

The motherfucker has one of the lowest selling jerseys on his team, even Arod outsells him. There's been some statements from rival GMs saying his agent(s) are failing hard.
Seattle signed Willie Bloomquist to a 2/6.5 deal. *sigh*
Oakland inks Scott Kazmir to a 2/22 deal.
AL West watchers there's a fucking reason why the A's always have a chance to be competitive and Seattle who has the ability to go massive on payroll ( they're owned by Nintendo ) doesn't. I bet the Astros leap frog them next year.

Unfortunately it's only about what someone's willing to pay, not what he's "worth".
And to be fair, per Fangraphs Cano is second only to Miggy in WAR over the last four seasons. I'd say he's established himself amongst the elitest of the elite. Having said that, will there ever be a Michael Jordan of baseball? Seems an individual player can't have nearly the same impact as in other sports.
Jays ink Dioner Navarro; 2 years, 8 mil. No more JPA= happiness.

Oakland aquires 2 times saves leader Jim Johnson from Baltimore for Jemile Weeks.
Texas got better, Oakland ( at least on paper ) got better and meanwhile up north Seattle's special needs GM got a one year contract extension.

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
The trade details are coming out now. For Doug Fister the Nationals sent infielder Steve Lombardozzi, left-hander Ian Krol and minor league lefty Robbie Ray to the Tigers. It's pretty well accepted that Detroit didn't get enough. I believe this trade is just the beginning, Dombrowski is brilliant at pulling this shit off so I expect more.
Jemile Weeks could just need a change in scenery with Baltimore after his fan favorite rookie season debut, he's been flirting with the Mendoza line ever since so it looks like Oakland won that end of the deal. I've been hearing that the O's fans are saying Duquette needs to go.
Here's some food for thought though. It's been speculated that Baltimore is landing one of the big FAs on the market to compliment the subtraction and recently available payroll. Keep in mind it was Duquette who jettisoned a late 30s and completely INEFFECTIVE without steroids; Yankee hero Roger Clemens and replaced him with Pedro Martinez, it was Duquette who traded Heathcliff Slocoumb ( look him up ) for Jason Varitek and Derek Lowe. It was Duquette who signed Manny and built the core to Theo's fairy tale team.
I think that's the GM that will successfully engineer Baltimore's rise to repeated relevance. Johnson for Oakland OTOH is pretty shaky and has had some rough saves, Craig Kimbrel he ain't. Beane has added over $22m in two days so things are happening for Oakland, kinda. The fucking Twins ( owned by Target so they're not hurting financially ) added a lot in payroll too. Sadly this years free agency kinda sucks, especially for pitching so I hope it's a successful risk.

Red Sox very close to signing catcher A.J. Pierzynski
Perfect match. These 2 deserve one another.
I'm sure A.J. will refuse to grow a beard during the season
and ruin the team chemistry.
Then Big Papi will have a curse word to say about the situation and
be applauded by ESPN for standing up to A.J.

Juicy stuff: Rumour has it the Athletics and the Rangers are discussing a "significant" trade. Craig Gentry is involved (damn, he's kind of a nice piece), headed to Oakland.
I don't wanna predict Cespedes is somehow involved, but it'd make sense somehow.

Now it's on ESPN saying that Cano resigning with the MFY are less than 50-50 and that Seattle has emerged as a major player. Cano may or may not resign with the Yankees, but it won't be Seattle.
It's been stated that Zduerdnick is horribly unfit and unmatched to be a GM, so any marque FA is going to use him as leverage to raise their signing price ( Hamilton, Fielder recently ). I'm curious where he ends up. He'll get 300m to go to Safeco though.
