Fucking beautiful, those are two of the most awesome pictures I've seen in a long time.

The second pick is epic while at the same time the type I was talking about, it makes me cringe. That leap to the knee, cleat or face first is worse then a straight up brick slam. Knee benders are career enders.

Like you I'm not up on this rule and can't picture how it will play out but I totally agree with "the vaginization of the game".

With replay's, rules, lawsuits and scary monsters we're well into the new generation of sports I don't like. At least Baseball is still simplistically played and not tragically redesigned.

You know what's even more metal \m/ about that bottom pic? In that time period the cleats were actually metal and Ty Cobb would sharpen them before the game. Think about that for a minute.

Dr. Frank Jobe, a pioneering orthopedic surgeon who was the first to perform an elbow procedure that became known as Tommy John surgery and saved the careers of countless major league pitchers, died Thursday. He was 88.

The West Coast Yankees were hit with a 1.9B luxury tax bill from their cable contract. Reportedly it was like 68m more than what they were expecting to pay.

With the exception of Vogelsong ( Seattle hit him hard Saturday ), the SF's starters have yet to give up an ER in ST. Cain went 5 perfect with 7Ks today. It's going to he tough in the West this year, but don't be surprised if SF's pitching takes them right to the end this tear too.

Even year Giants

Stat corrections

Cain, Lincecum, Hudson and Bumgarner have pitched 27IP 0ER 10H 5BB 19K this spring.

Fuck that team. Fuck the Giants and fuck those guys, I hope they blow a tire. By the way, Barry is coming back. Testing the waters.

Barry Bonds all smiles in return...Smiles? So Barry is off Roids and on Paxil?
http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/10584 ... s-new-role

Barry Bonds is stepping in as a special spring training hitting instructor for the Giants. Barry fucking Bonds....Is Bonds going show players how to hit each other in the ass with a needle? Fuck that team, fuck their GM/president and fuck everyone letting that douche back in.

The video says, people mature with age...Fuck off, Barry was a dick AND HE WAS ON ROIDS for over decade you dipshit. Fuck I probably know more inside shit but Barry didn't mature, he got off roids are started to come down....You can't change dick, maybe that's the mature part he's hoping for.

Here's a personal story from an ex-player I know.
"quote" "Barry was arrogant before the needle" ...During college Barry took up three spaces on the bench and wouldn't let anyone in his zone. During alumni games, he'd take up three spaces, one of the staff asked for an autograph...Barry said with an attitude, I guess but you have to sit two more spaces down. When he'd send people to get him a drink, they'd have to sit the drink down on the bench, he wouldn't grab it from their hand.

And these were alumni and charity games.

When I say Barry took three spaces, he took the end left seat to pile his shit and the seat to his right was kept empty to fit his fat fucking head and his big ego. I've seen pictures. looks like a team next to one player on his own island. This was before any mention of PED's or his ROID run. During the games he would only talk to a couple people he knew and only if he brought up the conversation. If he didn't know you he'd brush you off with many story's of his actions towards people he didn't know. "Get the fuck away from me, see this? This is my space" 'Not your space, my space"

Barry Bonds should be banned from ever entering a major league park for the rest of his life.

Barry Bonds and A-Roid should make baseball hall of fame, their plaques should be hung above the bathroom urinals.

Barry's a douche, no doubt and he won't get in the Hall. Although if there is anyone I'd listen to about hitting ( hypothetically ) it's Barry.

Kind of like McGwire on the DODGERS.

I don't hate the Giant's, it's more players. I hate the fucking Yankees, Cub's and the Padres more then the Giant's.

Besides, it took like 90 years for the Red Sux's to win a ring people was feeling sorry for them, now they're obnoxious. at least I got to watch my team win a couple growing up as a kid and a young adult, it's much sweeter as a kid then some drunk retarded adult with bigger things to care about.

I couldn't give a fuck if LA bought the moon to build a team, the Yankees have been doing it since the dawn of time so like I care..What I don't like is paying out the ass for shit players you know suck..Now I see why people make fun of Yankee and BSox fans. They're so into it they act like accountants.

It was funny to watch Oakland and Tampa make the playoffs and one of them almost beat the Red Sux's when both of them have 2 of the lowest salaries in baseball. Boston had to spend 100 MILLION dollars just to win 5 more regular season games. And beat one in the playoffs.

The only people who care about money are Sux and Spankee fans.

I'm just jerking yer chain, I called it during the All Star break the Red Sox would win in 04?......I'm kind of eating them words. Now they're loud Yankee fans in a different uniform.

I can't comprehend hating the Padres. They're the least offensive team out there. It's like hating pretzels or something.

Eric Chavez has the right attitude. More players should have a similar mindset.
Instead of guys like Ryan Dempster who choose to throw at ARod to show their disgust.

Arizona Diamondbacks infielder Eric Chavez, whose early career was spent in the whirlwind of baseball's steroid scandal, realizes Bonds' close ties to the BALCO performance-enhancing drug scandal damaged the game, as did slugger Mark McGwire's admitted steroid use.

Bonds, unlike McGwire, has not admitted to PED use, but will join the San Francisco Giants as a guest instructor Monday morning, his first official contact with the game since he struck the last of his 762 home runs in 2007.

Chavez – who has made some $81 million in his career – says Bonds should be welcomed by players, owners and Major League Baseball itself.

Bonds, McGwire, and Sammy Sosa, he says, made all of them rich.

"A lot of players are outspoken about it," Chavez told USA TODAY Sports on Sunday morning. "They just forget how many riches, for lack of a better word, that all of us have enjoyed. Ownership, MLB, those guys brought baseball to a whole new level as far as popularity is concerned. That's something I'll never forget.

"It's unfortunate the way things happened. I think we all wish it could have been different. But we all enjoyed that ride to the top. All of us. They kickstarted that whole thing. For good or for bad. You can be opinionated as you want it all you want.

"Personally, I want to thank them."

Chavez made his major league debut in 1998 and played on Oakland Athletics teams that featured Jason Giambi (like Bonds, implicated in the BALCO scandal) and Miguel Tejada (who pleaded guilty to lying to Congress about PED use). Jose Canseco – whose book, "Juiced," kick-started much of the scrutiny of baseball's steroid era – was an Athletic in 1997 when Chavez was in the minor league system.

A year later, they all gathered around clubhouse TVs as McGwire and Sosa – who reportedly tested positive for steroids in 2003 – battled to set baseball's single-season home run record.

And also boost a sport still crippled by the cancellation of a World Series just four years earlier.

"We were all on this awesome rollercoaster ride," Chavez said. "Whether the wheels were coming loose and we were going to fall off the track - it wasn't talked about. It was almost like, 'Oh my God, this is so fun.' We all enjoyed it. We didn't miss an at-bat. We were glued to the TV until our game started.

"I played with Jason and Tejada. The way Jose Canseco kind of came across, that it was very open. It wasn't that open. Yeah, looking back on it, maybe there should have been some eyebrows raised. But for one reason or another, there wasn't. We just enjoyed the roller coaster ride."

According to Forbes, MLB had revenues of $1.5 billion in 1995, the year after the World Series was canceled. In 2013, revenue exceeded $8 billion, and could reach $9 billion in 2014.

The rise started partially on the backs of PED users, but a new generation seems bent on cleaning up the game, even if risking occasional scorn.

Arizona relief pitcher Brad Ziegler caught flak for expressing his dismay over free agent shortstop Jhonny Peralta's $53 million contract just weeks after he completed a 50-game suspension for violating the game's drug policy.

While Chavez may seem at odds with his teammate, Ziegler says he, too, welcomes Bonds' return. Bonds was acquitted of lying to a grand jury when he told them he did not knowingly use steroids; he was convicted of obstruction of justice and sentenced to 30 days of home confinement, but that conviction remains under appeal.

"His situation is kind of an enigma in itself," Ziegler told USA TODAY Sports. "There was never anything where he was properly accused and convicted of anything. He was accused of perjury, obstruction of justice, but that's just because he didn't talk. Whereas the actual evidence of him doing something wrong as far as PEDs, there's a lot of guys where there's speculation, there's a lot of guys convicted in the minds of the public.

"It doesn't mean they're convicted in baseball. To that point, I don't think it's necessary for anything to be changed about him working with the Giants."

That process begins on Monday. McGwire is now the Los Angeles Dodgers batting coach, and he had the same role with the St. Louis Cardinals after he admitted PED use.

Bonds will meet the media before hitting the fields of Scottsdale Municipal Stadium – the first day of the rest of his baseball life.

" He's got a lot to offer young kids," Chavez said. "And maybe he can touch on some of those subjects that, moving forward, what players should be cognizant of and choices they should make going forward.

"He's not coming back for the media glitz. He's always hated it. He wants to put the uniform on. He knows he has to go through the questioning and the scrutiny. Ultimately, he's coming back to get that interaction with the young players."

I was having a discussion with a friend yesterday about who we think was the best pure talent player was in MLB. Our generation, pre-steroids; out of these three: Barry Bonds, Alex Rodriguez or Ken Griffey Jr.

What do you think? I ( like everyone I know ) grew up with Griffey as their hero, desired, acquired, and hoarded the Upperdeck rookie ( which was a whopping 20 bucks at the time. A fortune when you're like 9 years old ). That said he's probably the most complete player since Willie Mays.

Out of those three though I chose Arod. When that dude was an 18 year old SS in Seattle I thought for sure we were watching potentially the greatest of all time.

My friend had a hard time picking anyone over Bonds in his Pittsburgh days. He went to Arod though after some thought because SS is the most demanding position defensively on the field.

Thoughts?

*News*
Also there is a SABR conference tomorrow in which Jack Zduriencik is going to be a speaker. It's been written that he misrepresented himself to Seattle as a stats expert type and has no idea what any stat is except HR, ERA, W/L, and BAA after he sought the job from Milwaukie.

I don't know if it was just a bitter shit talking piece or if it's true. We'll find out tomorrow, because this if there is group you can't get away with it it's Sabr.

Detroit SS Jose Iglesias expected to miss most of 2014 with shin injury. Details coming.

Holy shit, I had the Tigers winning it all this year with their defensive improvements, a full season of Victor Martinez, addition of Joe Nathan, and Justin Verlander back to no longer pitching like a mere mortal.

Losing Iglesias could be huge. Their IF was elite with Cabrera off third, Iglesias and Kinsler added. Tough break.

I gave five bucks to some dude begging outside the liquor store (I know I'm a good person, I hope it went towards booze or drugs, though) and he saw my Jays cap and asked me how I think they'll do this year.

I may have been overly optimistic. I said .500. :|

Word is they'll try and get Drew. Mets fans have been pining for him a bit (along with Nick Franklin) since their alternatives are so. fucking. bad. Quintanilla or Ruben Tejada? Fuck off. And there's no way Flores is defending at SS.

Edited to add: Going to be watching a game in Montreal in two weeks. It's baseball in Montreal; sure, it's an exhibition game between two also-rans, but I'll take it.

And re: the question you posed, Kill, athleticism is cool and all, but I really dig the longball. Oakland-era McGwire is one of my favourites to watch old clips of; the one he hit in Seattle during Johnson's 19K game was quite something Jeeeeeeeesus!

Makes me think, I feel bad for Stanton, stuck on the Marlins. He's that guy now with the can't-miss homers, and with everything online you can watch all his HRs without having to sit through a Marlins game.

It was just released that Detroit isn't going after Drew to replace Iglesias. Makes sense, Drew is an injury prone Boras client. He'll cost money ( pushing them further over the salary cap ) and possibly years. I'm not sure I would be too keen on adding him either, especially if Iglesias returns before the end of the season.

Maybe they can try to trade for Franklin. His battle against Brad Miller ( who is the better SS option ) has been a pretty good contest.

*edit*

It's being reported now that Detroit is going to go after Franklin. They don't want to give up the draft pick Drew would cost ( 1st round, 23rd pick ) and Franklin has higher upside.

Dempster had egg all over his face that night.
The ESPN Trio of announcers condemned his actions.

Later in the game Dempster threw another baseball and ARod deposited the ball over the fence. How did that work out for you Dempster?

A Rod because of the good defense at a more demanding position. But goddam I miss seeing bonds swing. Potent juice.

Is Carlos Quentin selling pretzels now?

The ESPN Trio of announcers condemned his actions.
I was at Iggy's sports grill watching that game and the restaurant exploded with cheers and laughter, everyone in the place spent the night talking shit about A-Roid.
Machado wrote:Later in the game Dempster threw another baseball and ARod deposited the ball over the fence. How did that work out for you Dempster?
Everyone on the planet remembers how fucking awesome it was that Dempster tossed one at A-Roid....I can still picture and remember the feeling of the 100 or so people laughing and cheering.

No one remembers who even won the game. Well, the moronic fans of the Yankess do, the rest of the world still roots, laughs and cheers Dempster.

I forgot, didn't know what A-Roid or the Yankees did until you just posted it.

History will always remember how fucking aweswome Dempster's bean ball was and more importantly what it represented! Anything else about the game is forgotten or will always be small print....So inject that needle in your ass cheek and put a band-aid on it.
