The only difference between the Browns and Expos is that MLB, Bud Selig to be precise, presided over the whole debacle.UtahRatt wrote:I never got deep into the Expos move but the more I read about Loria and the Marlins the more disgusting it becomes. It dampens my support for the team.WOLF wrote:Par for the course for Loria and his Mini-Me. What else would you expect from guys who made off in the dead if night with the Expos' office equipment, scouting databases, and staff to take over the Miami Expos/Marlins? Everywhere they have gone they've left a mess for partners, fans, and taxpayers.TawnyVonJagger wrote:Oh yes...that. Yeah, David Samson and Loria fucked the taxpayers hard.
I remember when the Expos moved, it reminds me the day Modell extracted the Browns from Cleveland. I moved to Cleveland shortly after the Browns were stolen and the city was dead, it sucked the life right out of people it was so bizarre. Visiting the empty Stadium was "ERIE"
Where's home land security during hostel take overs. I'm guessing owners table meetings would be a laugh.

Other then pulling up stats I finally watched my first full game the other day and didn't recognize the Dodgers. Nice to see a lot of home grown on the field and still winning. Not sure how they're doing it with that line up, maybe without Puigy and Crawfish the dugout is playing better music.

My point and question to all this is, before the season the Padres loaded up, what happened in San Diego? Still a lot of games to be played.
Selig brokered a deal where John Henry would acquire the Red Sox, Loria would acquire Henry's Marlins, and the Expos would be taken over by MLB. Somehow Loria got granted the right to take everything that belonged to the Expos (unknown to the Expos' minority partners).
MLB then ran the Expos into the ground. Alienated local fans by cancelling local radio deals, so the team had ZERO media exposure, scheduling "home games" in Puerto Rico vs teams, and at times of year, where the Expos would have drawn relatively well, doing everything possible to thwart the Expos' wild card run...
Now of course, because Tampa Bay is fledgling, and MLB needs a card to play as a threat, Montreal is a great baseball city again all of a sudden..
