I just read about the leg fracture diagnosis today. It was the worst case scenario but to be honest, I am not surprised. The deep bone bruise that Yankees/Braves doctored agreed on probably prevented the MRI machine from getting a proper image until now.

Hope the rookie Bird can continue to play well and be productive. There is no other option for the time being.

I was thinking about how they're gonna handle Teixira and it echoes Barbaro.
They're gonna have to put the old boy down.

The rumor is Brad Ausmus is going to be fired at the end of the season. Ron Gardenhire is being looked at as his replacement. I don't know if Gardenhire was a good manager but he had the Twins in the thick of it the majority of his time in Minny.

I was stuck in a waiting room today ( for a fucking hour ) and read an SI to pass the time. Anyways they called the Cardinals a bunch of zombies with all their key losses ( it's pretty amazing ) and how they keep coming at you. I thought that was clever.

Nats P Drew Storen likely out for season with broken thumb. That sucks for Washington how are they going to hold on to first place now?

Wait.

ETA

Apparently Storen broke his hand pulling a Kevin Brown and punching his locker after giving up HR. #roidrage

David Ortiz hits career HR #500 ( the 27th? in history )

Mike Moustakas sets KC record with 9 RBI game.

ETAII

Tulo diagnosed with crack in his scapula. Under observation.

I just seen the A's released Will Ferrell. Ironic that the A's bring him up and Billy Bean is the first to let him go.

If he is as good of a ballplayer as he is an actor, I would have released his ass too!
I guess that means you didn't watch the show.
It was alright, since it was rushed and on the go it fell short on comedy but pulled a few laughs. Ferrell actually making a routine grounder in CF for the Angles was a surprise. It was all for charity, had a few chuckles and he broke the record I guess.
I don't mind Ferrell, not really a fan but "The Other Guys" is funny as fuck and he's lasted longer and done more then say.....Adam Sandler.

Ferrell Takes the Field........
"Ferrell Takes the Field, follows Ferrell as he takes 10 positions for 10 different baseball teams in one day, to beat a famous sports history record set by Bert Campaneris in 1965. Proceeds from the film will go to a charity that helps send cancer survivors to college."

THE CARDS GET BACK ON TRACK...with rout of the reds.

SCGERZER, NATS BOUNCE BACK.....to sink the marlins.

METS TOP BRAVES! It's still 7W in a row for the Met's

I'm tellin ya, I like the Met's in the postseason.

The Mets look tough, BUT Harvey is still on an innings limit. I wouldn't be surprised if that fucks the team. I also like Cespedes for NL MVP.

Harvey will pitch but YA it's a circus starting with his agent. If this pitch count effect's Harvey's head or becomes a manager problem it will be interesting. At least Harvey's on board with everything the Mets have talked about. Where he's put in the rotation during the postseason, how he'll play out the season but I don't see Harvey destroying the team unless it fucks with his head. They have a good team even with Half of a Harvey.

Got a laugh over......Doc Gooden baffled when he said he couldn't imagine if him or Ron Darling feeling fine would have to talk to their agent first to see if they can pitch or not. Just rub some cocaine on it and you'll be fine!

-----------------------

How about the Astro's comeback in the 9th vs Angels today? Apart from the 2 out HR's, the ball getting stuck in Featherston's glove? If you don't believe in baseball gods you do now.

-------------------

The Pirates have worked into striking distance. 2.5 back, I thought the Cards would pull away not lose ground.

If anything I'm pulling for Texas and Houston over the Twins. I still don't know how the twins keep winning.....Including blanking out the other Chicago team 7-0. CWWWWWS.

It's nice to see the Yankees 4-6 in the last 10, I'd love to see them on a 5 game losing streak to make it interesting.

Tanaka took it upon himself yesterday to stop the losing streak. Now the Yankees play in Tampa before taking on the Jays again next weekend.

Is it possible the Jays are now vulnerable since Tulo is injured for the next 3 weeks with that cracked shoulder blade? Tulo should have removed himself from catching the ball and let the CF get it. They were both calling the ball but isn't the procedure for the SS to back off once the OF calls the ball?

The Jays players said trading for Tulo "fired them up," but he hasn't been swinging the bat so well so I don't think it will make much of a difference.

I think the calls are whomever is closer. Usually since the OF is running towards and the SS back, the OF has a better chance to make the play. They probably couldn't hear each other.

David Ortiz AL Player Of The Week

Am I the only one who is getting sick of his little hair flips? It seems everytime they show him not at bat or making a play he's primping. Get the fuck outta here.

I don't think Tulo is going to change the team, send them in a spiral or be the difference maker.

I didn't see the play but was taught the OF always makes the call regardless of anything. His job is to call off the infielder or pull up too back up the play. The CF normally has the control with the OF guys but like you said it's all about communication in the Out Field when one has a laser bead on the ball. If you're an infielder you're taught to go at the ball full speed until you hear the OF call you off.
Playing 2b I crashed into a Right Fielder on a blooper, the ball hit my glove and was blasted away when we collided. As the pain wasn't bad enough, looking like a couple dorks is worse. We got to the bench the coach bitched out the OF for not calling me off or pulling up.

***WELL SPEAK OF THE DEVIL.
Holy fuck, knock on wood, how ironic, watch this highlight in the 7th....I'm watching the Rockies vs Dodgers, I went to hit enter and wouldn't you know it.
The dodgers just hit a blooper to shallow left...The 3B, SS and LF all converge on the ball and let it drop in between all three of them! The OutFielder didn't call anyone off or make a play! The 3B and SS could have made a play but pulled up as well. The LF had a shot but didn't go for it or call off anyone, all three of them ran to the ball and watched it drop in the middle of the group.........NONE OF THEM went to make the play because the OF didn't pull up or call them off.
So the announcer said, that's on the Out Fielder, you can tell he didn't call anyone off while at least one of them could have made a play......Instead they all ran up and watched it drop.

The play brought in the tying RUN! 3-3 in the 7th

-----------------------------------

I left my friends house in the 1st inning, he was scrolling though the scores and stopped on the Oakland A's game....He's not much into baseball but said, holy shit, the A's just put up two Touchdowns and a FG and they're still playing! Not being a baseball guy he thought it was crazy....Go A's.

Jim Johnson game killer comes in during the 10th, gets one out then loads the bases. Lucky someone bailed him out.

Dodgers bull pen 25th in the league, 27th since July. I turned the game off in the 11th tied......I can't stomach watching a shitty bull pen and no clutch hitting leaving runners in scoring postilion with one or no outs in 3 different innings. I want to punch Mattingly's subs while the Pen makes me sick. I wished the Giants would go on a run and win the division, like KILL has been saying, the NL West is going to be a speed bump.
--------

Lester, nice win. Came a long way from like 2 and 8? to 10W 10L, A nice win for the CUBS to split the header. A month ago I'd say the CUBS would slip down the stretch now I'm thinking they're going to hang tough over the next two week stretch of games. Another set with the Pirates and Card's?
The Central has a great race.

If the Cubs take tomorrows Pirates game I'm going to lean towards the Cubs a bit more going into the post season. They're gritty.

I do that shit all the fucking time, just as I hit refresh or switch over it's perfect time to see a HR, walk off or some shit play against my team.......I'm starting to become superstitious and stopped doing it so fast. If it's close and I got a vibe I do something else for 10 or so before I check again...Like sacrificing a goat or poke the voodoo doll.

-----------------------
Dodgers vs Rockies.....Edited 15 times....

In the 16th it's still tied, LAD 4 Rockies 4 - 24 pitchers used. How many is on the roster, jezzzzus
FUCKING GREAT, Latos just walked in as the 23rd pitcher so I'm sure the Rockies will end it now.......

Yep, sure as shit, Latos just gave up a solo HR in the top of the 16th. Off too the bottom of the 16th.......The Dodgers put runners on 1st and 3rd and left them stranded.....Thanks Latos, what a great pick up he was........Latos and Jim Johnson have killed more games then the 1994 strike.

Dodgers 4 Rockies 5 O/T 16th 5 HOURS 23 MINUTES. 12:30am Pacific.

Dodgers had 1 player left on the bench, used up 3 catchers and 9 Pinch Hitters. The last out was a Pinch Hit from Ronald Torreyes, his 3rd MLB at bat.

Rockies stats showed zero left on the bench.....how does that works, if a Rockies player gets hurt? Can players come back? play a man down?

Ugly game, raining, 3 LAD errors..1 leading to an ER that would have ended the game in the 9th.

------------------------------------

Speaking of Harper, where did the mouth on this guy come from? I might have found the answer.....He's watches Entourage, a show about douche bags made for douche bags.
Bryce Harper ‏@Bharper3407 - Mint Chocolate Chip and some Entourage #FridayNights https://instagram.com/p/68_rd2gIWn/

"robumbria13 Eating them sorrows away bud? But yeah I'm sure an individual accolade will heal all, don't worry. #LGM"

Before the season Harper was one of my favorite players, picked him for MVP and was all for the guy. Fast Forward too now, I can't stand him and hope he falls off the list. I'm not sure what to say about the dude, it kind of sucks when you're rooting for a player and he transforms into a mouthy whiner.

I'm with KILL, Cespedes MVP.

Josh Johnson set to undergo THIRD Tommy John surgery.

ETA

Oakland recalls Barry Zito ( 37 ) from AAA Nashville. Bay Area reporters have been going nuts about a possible Tim Hudson ( 40 ) matchup. It would be even cooler if Mark Mulder threw out the 1st pitch. I would have loved to have seen those two matchup in their primes.

Had no clue Zito was still around.
A blast from the past...I feel old remembering when those guys came up about the same time and were pegged the new up and coming studs, all the excitement in the bay. Then Zito had like a year or two of stud worthy before dropping down the charts with head problems to delivery issues? Mulder, not sure happened to him other then he some great seasons and vanished. Injuries?
I do remember the same ole, A's couldn't keep them and had too split the staff up? One or two wanted big money and didn't live up to expectations. Wasn't it Zito who bombed where every year everyone thought, he'll show up THIS YEAR!

Being older I remember more of the 80's, 90's up to the Strike and started to lose track after Y2K.

Hudson had a good run with the braves. I seen him pitch with Atlanta other wise I wouldn't know much about his travels.
Really feeling old, I caught more games and was around a few years earlier but lucky to catch Atlanta with Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz and Millwood. And can't forget that fuckhead Rocker.

All this reminds me of that fucking 94-95 strike, the only thing to come out of that strike that I read recently that KILL has touched on.............The strike cost Don Mattingly his best chance at the postseason during his 13-year career. 8)

I was always a fan of those 3. Mulder got a new extremely effective pitching angle and attempted a comeback ( St. Louis? ), but tore his knee in ST and it ended his career.

Zito's 7/162 for SF was a bust, although he redeemed himself beating Verlander in game 1 on the 2012 WS. I thought that his fat curveball would be devastating in the NL since it's ( especially then ) a fastball driven league. Looking back now that was a serious mistake. I did always like Zito though. I had a fling with a cool girl that lived in the bay area and told me he's always hanging around and super cool to anyone that approaches him.

I've made my feelings on Hudson being the actual best of the Big 3 clear. That Oakland team was a likable band of misfits. It's unfortunate Giambi signed with the MFY and PEDs, Damon, Foulke, Isringhausen, etc. all happened. Those guys were so cool they got a movie made about their era. Zito still didn't deserve the Cy over Pedro though ( ie. Corey Kluber < King Felix '14 ).

There might be some trouble brewing between Kyle Seager and Jered Weaver. Seager called time without stepping out of the batter's box. Weaver hit him in the arm, the two exchanged words, and Weaver was ejected.

Weaver states ( not verbatim ) "it was a pitch that got away from me, but he stayed in the box so I didn't know he wasn't ready. It's not only his call." Seager responded post game by saying "he quit on his team. I didn't." I side with Jered on this one, but it would be cool to see something brewing between the Angels and Mariners. Both those teams were a disappointment. I knew LAAAA was going to be, but not Seattle. Fuck them both.

I just want you to know, you blew the Latos call, KILL.....I hate it more that I agreed with ya.
That 7 player deal did nothing but hurt LAD and cost them another Cuban allstud Hector Olivera. Jim Johnson and Latos alone have lost a lot of games for LAD.

If LAD would have picked up a pitcher or just some bull pen relievers during the trade fiasco the team would be pretty strong.

Latos made five starts and one relief piling up an 0-3 record with a 6.66 ERA, and a .323 opponent batting average. The Dodgers were 2-4 in his six appearances.
My Play by Play post this page was his last game. Saying "fuck" here comes Latos in the 16th we're done, I guess Friedman heard me. Latos gave up the losing HR and was sent packing.

The 7 player trade flopped........Alex Wood, Mat Latos and Bronson Arroyo, relievers Jim Johnson and Luis Avilan, outfielder Michael Morse and infield prospect Jose Peraza.

Alex Wood has been bouncing in and out of the 5th spot since arriving rarely making it out of the 5th or 6th inning. He's got better but totally bipolar.
Last three games.....Game 1 vs SD 7IP 0ER - Game 2 vs AZ 1.2IP 6ER - Game 3 vs COL 8IP 0ER

Wood's probably a lot cheaper then Hamels for a little less production or has Hamels earned his money yet? I never wanted anything to do with Ham's.

Dodgers - Howie Kendrick comes back! Jimmy Rollins goes out.......The revolving IR door.
Is it too late to just give Rookie of the Year to Corey Seager, :(

--------------

I love this Cards vs CUBS heating up down the stretch, god they hate each other it would be sweet to see them face off. Haren's throw demanded retaliation!

I have a group of friends who are Card's fans that get together from work, one of them has a mannequin they dress up in a Tranny Cub outfit during game parties while throwing darts at it. Cubs vs Cards is a big event. They toss huge parties every match up and go all out with hate on the Cubs with a passion. I'm sure it goes both ways but Card's fans seem to enjoy picking on the Cubs while the Cubs seem to have an ahhhhhh whatever attitude.

Sure the Cub's sucking since before the television was invented don't help.
Well, that and airplanes, cars, indoor plumbing, toasters, X-Ray machines, Brillo Pads, Stainless Steel, bra's, the ballpoint pen and marshmallow fluff.

Go Tribe! 9W 5L since the Blue Jays series. 3 WCGB, 7 games left vs Twins.

Houston we have a problem, picked a bad time to lose 5 straight 2-8 in last 10

NY Spankees 3-7 in the last 10!

KC - wasn't they the first to 80W? 6W 11L since, what happened to the over hype? I picture KC fans still wearing Big Johnson T-shirts.

I thought Latos was gonna bounce back. A lot of scouts did too. The thing about having such a large financial advantage is those big contracts LA takes on usually also nets them a high draft pick. Since their GM isn't an idiot with a credit card ( Cashman ) they still have the top ranked farm in baseball. That trade will end up working out for that reason alone.

I don't think Seager has enough ABs to qualify for ROTY yet. The NL has some good ones this season with Kris Bryant and Matt "Fat Panda who?" Duffy.

The race is heating up. Maddon has got the Cubs confident, Texas is on fire, KC acted like they were the defending champs with a passionate fan base that has been there a year. Stupid fly-over state. I think the MFY might miss the playoffs. At this point though I have no idea whom my predictions go to. St. Louis is still St. Louis but a Toronto vs. really any of the Mets, Cubs, Cardinals, or Pirates would be cool as hell.

I'm digging Toronto this year. It's like KC's postseason run in '14, but you know? Not dickish.

This is an exchange between Madison Bumgarner and Paul Goldschmidt last night. Madison was letting Goldschmidt know it was not his decision to walk him  I dig the cocky pitcher. Reminds me of a healthy Josh Beckett.

25 fucking games over .500 and in 3rd place. Has that ever happened before?

In this current playoff system?

No and yes. If the Cubbies moved to ANY other division they would be in first. The Central is fucking tough. I personally don't think Pittsburgh is the better team and Chicago is a half game or one game behind for the 2nd wild card. I see them overtaking it.

I gotta say though. This is the most exciting season I remember in a quite a while. Both of my teams are out so I have no vested interest. Go baseball.

Fuck LA.

Apparently Maddon's "Sopranos" comment has irked the St. L ilk. Cubs/Cards are shaping up to be a good rivalry. I know they've always been at it but sometimes specific teams downright hate each other. The most recent was Boston/MFY late 90s-mid 2000s. SF/LA always hates each other but not like they did in the 1950s and 60s.

Adding Maddon has got that team fired up. We've got a serious rivalry reaching a boiling point. I want the Cubs to make the postseason and I want the NLCS to St. Louis vs. Chicago. They'll fucking kill each other.

Oh the irony if they win the year I become sober.

Us baseball fans are a superstitious lot. IF they do win I will be hard pressed to think of another reason they did than your sobriety. That's what's so great about this shit. The simple fact one fan didn't change his underwear is the reason it happened.

The logical side of me chuckles. I still believe that kind of stuff. If they do win, I have absolutely no reason to believe your new venture had nothing to do with it. It's part of what makes loving this stupid fucking game so great.

I think if they get into the postseason they're going to surprise a lot of people.
