Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
Red Sox Manager Bobby Valentine suffered minor injuries to his knees and hips after skidding on his bike and sliding down a hill in Central Park.
Valentine tells The New York Times he was reading a text on his cell phone when the accident occurred.
When he looked up, he was heading for two French tourists walking in front of him. He swerved to avoid them, lost his balance and went careening down the hill.
An avid biker, Valentine admitted it's wrong to ride and read texts. At least he was wearing a helmet.
The message was from Red Sox player Dustin Pedroia. The second baseman was telling Valentine he'd play Tuesday's game against the Yankees despite a broken finger.

He's playing with a broken finger and Soriano couldn't be bothered to take the field last night. Took my son to the game last night and it broke his heart.Machado wrote:

Dear Fonzie,
You're my 7 year old son's favorite player. You are making 18 million dollars this year. I appreciate what you've done this incredibly shitty season, but would it kill you at least pinch hit for the 8 thousand fans that are still sticking around to watch you asshats play?

Bobby V did a lot of talking today in NY.Facedown wrote:No surprise:

He met with the media of some of his highlights were:
"I had every opportunity to succeed and didn't."
If Valentine could re-wind 2012, said he wouldn't have made disparaging remarks about Youkilis. Said he didn't expect the reaction he got.

I thought Oakland was coming out swinging. I didn't even have them in the wild card race.

One game away from having the best record in the AL. Amazing. With my team out I gotta root for them or the Orioles.
Man, Texas has to be shitting bricks right now. Even with home field Friday and Yu going, they have to be worried about how they've been playing lately.

The ball Hamilton did not catch in CF was very bad. He was moving towards that ball like a person who never caught a fly ball.tin00can wrote:killeverything wrote:I thought Oakland was coming out swinging. I didn't even have them in the wild card race.

Doesn't he have vision problem during day games? I think I read that earlier this year.

The O's vs Rangers game will be interesting.
Rangers have Yu starting and it's anybody's guess who will be starting
for the O's.
Rangers are going in the wrong direction and the O's were beaten up
by the Rays to end the season.

The Red Sox have announced that Bobby Valentine
will not return next season as manager.
"Our 2012 season was disappointing for many reasons," Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington said in a written statement. "No single issue is the reason, and no single individual is to blame."

I'm kind of an Os fan - I mean, I certainly abandoned them and baseball during the last 15 years of them sucking balls - so it's kind of a bummer how this all played out. Would be a damn shame if this magical run ends with Joe Saunders getting assraped on a dreary night in Texas.

Their payroll will only be like 30 million next year as is so they're going to need players. 18 million of that is Soriano.killeverything wrote:Machado wrote:The Red Sox have announced that Bobby Valentine

A reporter for a North Carolina TV station that falsely accused New York Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano of failing a performance-enhancing drug test has publicly apologized.
Charlotte's WSOC-TV will also donate money to the Robinson Cano Foundation, according to Cano's agent, Scott Boras.
The station never reported the Cano accusations on the air, but one of its reporters, Dan Tordjman, tweeted Sept. 20 that he expected Major League Baseball to announce that Cano would be suspended. After Cano denied the charge, many media outlets subsequently reported on the story.
ESPN investigated the allegations but, after denials from top MLB and Yankees officials, as well as from Cano and Boras, did not find them credible enough to report.
On Thursday, WSOC apologized during its newscast, saying sorry to "Mr. Cano and any Yankee baseball fan for any embarrassment or inconvenience the tweet may have caused."
On Tordjman's Twitter account, he tweeted an apology, which in part read, "I shouldn't have posted false info about #Cano and afterward, I should've admitted it was false and apologized right away. I am very sorry."
Boras pursued the matter on behalf of Cano. The Robinson Cano Foundation benefits children with medical needs in the Dominican Republic.
"Journalists and media outlets have a standard of due diligence before they attempt to tarnish a great player and great person like Robinson Cano," Boras said by phone Thursday night. "I'm satisfied we were able to reach a settlement that will benefit a lot of Dominican kids."

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
My son this morning watching sportscenter before school.
Son - "Dad what's the triple crown"?
Me - "Leading the league in average, homers and RBIs. Hasn't been done in 45 years. What Cabrera did is impressive"
Son - "Yeah, but he's a terrible 3 baseman."
Me - Smiling with pride.

Cute. That's also the reason I don't think Detroit can win it all. There is practically no defense behind their pitchers, a Scossica-esque game of small ball ( provided Verlander's not on the mound ) will annihilate them IMO.

I sure hope so.
Not sure if the A's have the experience to keep their momentum going forward.
I tell you what, the Tigers scare me in a 5 game series because Verlander can throw twice. That's a huge advantage for Detroit.

I don't think they'll be knocked out easily, I just meant that WS winners have always ( anybody with stats to the contrary please post them ) played sound defense.Machado wrote:Are you saying the A's will win the series over Detroit?killeverything wrote: Cute. Remember Detroit in '06? The majority WS winner pick failed against an 88 win Cardinals team, because their defense was atrocious. They have the offense, God knows they have they have the pitching. I just think championship level baseball can't be achieved unless your defense is really good.
They might take out Oakland, rookies vs. veterans and all. ALCS or WS I think their lack of leather will be glaringly obvious. Until someone takes out Texas I see them going all the way. They've got Darvish on the mound today, and if Hamilton's healthy I think they're baseball's best.

Cardinals advance. It was baseball to the death. We had two tables at Hot Shots and tore that place apart. SO much fun. Atlanta fans were so PO over an infield fly call they threw a ton of junk on the field. Stopped the game for 19 minutes to clean up. But oh well none of that matters now. MORE baseball for St. Louis.

It's looking like the Rangers are going to be staying home, Baltimore advancing. Rangers will have one more at bat in the bottom of the 9th, but the O's are still w/plenty of scoring opps in the top of the 9th w/only one out.
The Braves got ROYALLY screwed IMO on that BS infield fly-rule call. Not saying they were going to win anyway, but that really cost them what was looking to be a good opportunity (would have been bases loaded w/one out if not for that call).
I called both games wrong. I know full-well how pesky those Cardinals are in the post-season, but I still predicted that the Braves would pull this one game play-in off.
And now the O's have just scored yet another run in the top of the 9th, making it 5 - 1. I'm just going to go ahead and say it; the Rangers are DONE. I don't see 'em scoring 4 + runs in the bottom of the 9th.

I'm indifferent to both Baltimore and Texas, but that "infield fly rule" call was total bullshit. I don't watch basketball, because it's fixed. With the horrible umpiring. Maybe Selig ( who I hope dies, preferabley by fire ) has been hanging with Stern.

I don't think Baltimore is that tough. Really just beat the MFY. Which I don't think they will. I don't care who wins, as long as NY doesn't.
