Mariano Rivera was back on a mound today. While filming a commercial, Rivera made roughly 25 throws in Tarrytown. As Bryan Hoch reports, it was Rivera’s first time on a mound since he tore his ACL in May.

“I’m feeling good,” Rivera said. “The rehab has been great; it’s been tough, but at the same time, I’m seeing good results. I can’t wait to continue and stay 100 percent. A day at a time, like I always tell you guys. A day at a time.”

I hate NY, but I would like to see Rivera come back from his injury and go out on his own terms.

The once every five year Marlins salary dump has begun.

There isn't a close second. That is the worst season in the history of a sports franchise and it isn't close based on expectations.

Just saw the Blue Jays are reported to be working on a deal to get Josh Johnson, Mark Buehrle and possibly Jose Reyes.

Dayum.
Blue Jays get Johnson, Buehrle, Reyes, John Buck and Emilio Bonifacio for pitcher Henderson Alvarez, shortstops Yunel Escobar and Adeiny Hechavarria, minor-league starter Justin Nicolino and center fielder Jacob Marisnick.
There is a report that the Marlins will also get a catcher, either J.P. Arencibia, Jeff Mathis or Bobby Wilson.

Jeff Mathis is the equalizing piece.

I will not spend another fucking penny on this franchise until that fucking cocksucker sells the team, or kills himself. The Miami Marlins are fucking dead to me. I can't do this anymore. I now know how it feels to be an Expos fan.

Yup - minor league feeder system to the rest of MLB. Fans here eventually got fed up, stopped coming, and the rest is history.

I know Loria/Samson have brought you guys a couple of titles, and a new stadium, but don't be fooled, they are scumbags of the highest order. They left Montreal in the middle of the night, which MLB allowed them to do, after sabotaging the franchise, and left with the Expos' computers, scouting records, minor league system, spring training facility, key personnel, etc. Hell - even Dave Van Horne. Never in baseball history had that happened. The Expos still existed and somehow John Henry moved to Boston, Loria/Samson to Florida, and MLB assumed control of the Expos. It was a total clusterfuck. Baseball writer Jonah Keri is writing a book on the Expos now, due in 2014, and it's going to be a good one.

Loria is evil. The only surprise in this is how quickly he fucked Marlins fans. He stole public money to build that eyesore and shed expenses as quickly as he could.

Nah.
The Yankees need a right handed hitting RF to fill a hole on the roster.
Stanton in The Bronx sounds very cool.

Thinking about this, I think what Loria just did is ensure that if you want the public to pay for your new playground, he just made it a shit ton a lot harder to get it from taxpayers. Citizens of Miami should file fucking FRAUD charges against the guy.

Torii Hunters signs with Tigers
2 years/26M

Talk about overpaying for a player that "used to be good".

IMO, Delmon Young is a better all around player and hits for more power.
I think the Tigers will regret their decision.

He had a good season this year but he's bound to decline soon; although being in that lineup should help him. The Angels didn't want another Abreu on their hands, and now they'll have an OF of Trout, Bourjos, and Trumbo. One kid has to prove he isn't a fluke, the other two have to prove they can hack it. Should be interesting.

I'd be mad if I were a Marlins fan just on principle. I get that. But the baseball fan in me kind of thinks it's overblown. JJ seemed to be regressing and Reyes was overpaid.

Again I get it and you can't really seperate the Marlins situation from the trade but from a baseball standpoint, the Marlins probably end up getting the better end of it when all said and done.

The stupid media is already saying just how "great" the Jays will be
in 2013.
Please. The game is played on the field, not on paper.

Reyes will miss plenty of games with his bad hammy. Imagine the wear & tear of playing up to 81 games on Turf?
That alone will deflate the team enough where they will be a .500 team
at best.

Don't know who it was but somebody ranked the AL East this way next season: (saw it on MLB Network)

1. Rays
2. Orioles
3. Yankees
4. Blue Jays
5. Red Sox

No one is done making moves, but I could see it panning out that way except I switch Baltimore and Tampa Bay. Plus the MFY are older.

And its Miguel Cabrera for the AL MVP award. I thought it would be alot closer than it actually was but Mike Trout wasn't going to win with the Angels not making the playoffs.

I was hoping Cabrera would win because the guy won
the triple crown.
If that does not equal an MVP, but something is wrong with the system.
Trout was great, but his team did not make the playoffs, while Cabrera's
team lost in the WS.

Using your latter metrics, after Trout was called up the Angels totally reversed course and finished with a better record than the Tigers. Had they been in the AL Central they would have coasted in. If that doesn't equal MVP, something is wrong with the system. Cabrera hit great. Trout hit very well, had great defense, and was a terror on the basepath.

Fuck the BBWA.

There's an excellent article at the Hardball Times about this discussion. The amazing feat of a Triple Crown vs. a rookie year that rivals Ichiro or Dwight Evans? I personally feel Trout was the MVP. Unlike Arod's 2003, the Angels didn't finish in last place, and ( as also pointed out by Tinn ) were a playoff threat because of Trout.

There's lots of ranting and raving about the playoff format and how unbalanced the system is around too. Here's the THT article, check it out:

Yep, that guy def. deserved it. Man I would kill to be able to go back in time and for the Reds to have drafted him (or been able to have drafted him). I guess just about every team feels that way. Catchers w/Posey's amount of talent, especially at his age are not all that easy to come by (I remember when he was first brought up in 2010, I thought he looked like a little kid in the face). Just look @ last yr. Posey gets hurt, they lose him for the season and the Giants don't make the post-season (after of course winning the WS in 2010). He comes back this season and not only do they make the play-offs, but they win yet another WS. This after losing a smoking hot Cabrera after the failed drug test (and not accepting him back even when they could have), Lincecum having the worst season of his career, etc. And after having their backs nailed to the wall by the Reds, Posey's grand slam in game 5 in Cincy was the death blow to the Reds.

I like the kid and as I said, he absolutely deserved it above and beyond anyone else in the NL and IMO it wasn't even close.

Anyone know what Posey's WAR is offhand?
