Fuck. I'm just....yeah.
Go Kings.
Always liked Dustin Brown ever since the Rangers drafted Hugh Jessiman in the first round over him...and Zach Parise...and Ryan Getzlaf...and Ryan Kesler...and Corey Perry.

Going for the Kings, as it would be nice to see them when their first Cup after 40+ years in the league. Having said that, I'm stumped on the outcome. The under the radar Devils seem pretty unstoppable at this point as well. Ansd these aren't the trap Devils of the 90's; DeBoer has them playing good hockey - even Ilya Kovalchuk!

Bruins trade Zach Hamill to Capitals for Chris Bourque.

Kinda useless move, no? Puts pressure on the kid (kinda like Blake Geoffrion in Montreal), and he's not all that good. I was under the impression Hamill was the better prospect.Facedown wrote:Bruins trade Zach Hamill to Capitals for Chris Bourque.

Re: The official NHL thread
I have a gut feeling the Kings will take the series in 6 or 7.
That being said, it could be the Devils in 6 also. If Brodeur keeps playing the way he has been, he could steal a few games.
If the Devils do win the cup, I think Brodeur will retire. 4 Cups and practically every Goalie record, there is nothing left to prove.

Brodeur is good, but the Rangers did fuckall to challenge him. Richards and Gabby made it a point to shoot it in the breadbasket.

Re: The official NHL thread
Probably useless unless the pressure brings out the best in Bourque. The team saw enough of Hamill and weren't going to extend an offer. Chia's in love with the thought of Jared Knight or Ryan Spooner making the leap this year. Hamill was falling further down the depth chart.WOLF wrote:Kinda useless move, no? Looks like Nick Lidstrom is ready to hang up the blades - big press conference set for tomorrow.
42 years old - did not look out of place last season. Great career.

Definitely one of the top 10 D-men of all time. Perhaps even top 5.grizzly31 wrote:Looks like Nick Lidstrom is ready to hang up the blades - big press conference set for tomorrow.

1.) Bobby Orr
2.) Doug Harvey
3.) Eddie Shore
After that it's up for debate. Bourque, Robinson, Potvin, Park, probably a lot of old timers I'm forgetting now, etc., etc.

Potvin is st least second on the d-man list, are you kidding me? More points than Orr and 4 straight cups? And hit like a freight train.
Coffey was the best offensive d-man I'v seen, since I never watched Orr.

Re: The official NHL thread
Potvin was great,no arguement there, however,Doug Harvey is widely considered the second best d-man of all time.Using your own measuring stick(stats),proves this consideration.11 CONSECUTIVE All Star selections,6 Stanley Cups and 7 Norris trophies. It's been well documented how he would play over 30 minutes a game, and once(against the Red Army) he played 50 minutes. He also let's you make your burger the way you want.NeverSurrender wrote:Potvin is st least second on the d-man list, are you kidding me? More points than Orr and 4 straight cups? You may have a case with Potvin bumping Shore, but there was no one meaner when he played and he was also a perennial All-Star as well as 2 time Cup Winner.

Maybe we should stick to guys who played since they invented indoor plumbing.alecjonsludge wrote:Potvin was great,no arguement there, however,Doug Harvey is widely considered the second best d-man of all time.Using your own measuring stick(stats),proves this consideration.11 CONSECUTIVE All Star selections,6 Stanley Cups and 7 Norris trophies. It's been well documented how he would play over 30 minutes a game, and once(against the Red Army) he played 50 minutes. Re: The official NHL thread
In that case, I would probably put Larry Robinson and Ray Bourque ahead of Potvin, using much of the same criteria you did. Cups, points, style of play, etc.NeverSurrender wrote:Maybe we should stick to guys who played since they invented indoor plumbing.alecjonsludge wrote:Potvin was great,no arguement there, however,Doug Harvey is widely considered the second best d-man of all time.Using your own measuring stick(stats),proves this consideration.11 CONSECUTIVE All Star selections,6 Stanley Cups and 7 Norris trophies. It's been well documented how he would play over 30 minutes a game, and once(against the Red Army) he played 50 minutes. Re: The official NHL thread
Ray Bourque didn't captain 4 stanley cup teams.
Although I'd say Potvin and Bourqe are very even. His point total is ridiculous.
My top 5 that I've actually watched:
Potvin (not denying i'm a homer as well)
Bourque
Lidstrom
Coffey
Brian Leetch

Re: The official NHL thread
If you accept that Orr and Harvey are 1-2, which has generally been the case in hockey circles for as long as I could remember. Then after that it's a matter of preference. Each guy is a little different. Lidstrom, Bourque, Potvin, Robinson, Shore, Leetch, Coffey all belong on the list. I tend to not favor the Coffey types, who are known more for their offence, vs the guys who could do it all, but basically everyone mentioned in this thread is worthy.NeverSurrender wrote:Ray Bourque didn't captain 4 stanley cup teams.

I would concede that, just like i would say that about Babe Ruth, Jim Brown or Johnny Unitas in their sports.

Re: The official NHL thread
Tim Thomas moved his family to Colorado and is thinking about not playing next season. This will get messy. He's probably played his last game as a Bruin.
