- Habs acquire P.A. Parenteau for Danny Briere yesterday (love it).

- Jason Spezza just traded to Dallas for Alex Chiasson, other youngsters, and picks (Dallas will soon be a power house)

UPDATE -

- Habs sign Manny Malhotra 1 year/850 K (excellent, 2nd best faceoff % in NHL, great as 4th line center and PK)

- Ehrhoff to Pittsburgh to replace Niskanen; 1 year/4 million (good signing IMO)

- Oilers are IDIOTS. Benoit Pouliot: 5 years/20 million, Mark Fayne: 4 years/14 million ( I guess you need to sign who you can in Edmonton, but Pouliot and 20 million do not belong in the same sentance)

TOO MUCH TO KEEP UP WITH NOW -

Tom Gilbert to Habs
Jussi Jokinen to Panthers
Stastny to Blues
Dan Boyle to Rangers
Cammaleri to Devils
Mason Raymond to Flames
Goalie Chad Johnson to Isles
....
Fayne signing was a good deal IMO...Pouliot signing isn't great, I wasn't crazy about the term more than anything...but if anything this Oilers team needed size and with both those signings, plus Purcell we got size..the Oilers will always have to over-pay players to play in Edm, it'll be this way until they can ice a competitive team..and really..who cares...they had 21 million in cap space to sign these guys..its not my money, fuck it

Fayne was solid for the Devils.

The Isles need to draft well, which they did, and keep their players. We all know, given ownership and volatility, that the Isles won't attract quality free agents. Build from within. Once the kids get good, and the team is in a new building, maybe with a new owner, then the vets will come.
Truth. It's all about the owner and the puppets he hires.

So far that is. Only day 1!
The Bolland contract is retarded at his age. Someone take the pen out of Dale Talon's hand.

Isles just signed two UFAs and totally overpaid, but then again, they HAVE to:

Pierre LeBrun ‏@Real_ESPNLeBrun · 5m
Isles sign Kulemin 4 yrs/$16.75 M and Grabovski 4 yrs / $20 M

Their forwards are not the problem though. Still have about 4 5-6 d-men starting next season. And our top line guys are maybe 2s or 3s.

Uhh.. yes they did. Did you read Wolf's post?

The reason they traded Moulson for Vanek is because he wanted to stay and they couldn't use the excuse machine on the fans about him. They knew Vanek would not stay thus dumping Moulson's salary. Wang is a crook.

Bergeron - $6.5m
Toews - $10.5m

There isn't a $4m difference between those two.

How come you're so willing to get rid?

He was your highest point scorer last season (yeah I know, that isn't everything).

However there is a huge difference in terms of when they signed their contracts, and where the salary cap is going.

It's becoming impossible to compare players/salaries. Subban will likely become the highest paid D-man in the NHL. Is he the best, no; however, the fact that he signed a 2 year bridge deal, after his entry level contract, has set him up for this.

Quick is now paid less than several goalies. He's probably the best, or top 3, in the NHL, but he's now underpaid based on the market when others signed their contracts. It's more about timing than who's better than who.

By the way - Heatly signs with Anaheim. 1 year/1 million. It could be a total steal. If it doesn't work out, there's virtually no risk/exposure on the Ducks' part.

If he plays responsible 3rd line hockey it will definitely be a steal. If he pops 15+ goals it will be a bonus. At 1 year/1 million it's a no-brainer signing.

Kid-Wicked, why do you pretend I don't know this shit? I wouldn't want to play for Wang either. And yes, some teams did want those guys, but not together (they wanted to play together) and nobody else would pay them that.

One more thing before I go. 30 years ago, everybody wanted to play for my team, it can happen to you too. Just be thankful for your owner who got rid of that ridiculous GM you guys had, not keep him around like Wang does Snow.

Does that roster work from a cost perspective? Heard they may need to move a D-man (Boychuk or McQuaid), and that they may not want Bartkowski back.

Also, Subban needs to play 60-65 games in Providence.

The roster doesn't seem as scary to me. Feels like they have a 2nd liner on the 1st; a 3rd liner on the 2nd, etc., etc.

It will be another fun season. Habs/B's in the division final again, unless Bolts have something to say.
